I literally just fell asleep twice trying to thoroughly scan one planet for resources. Could that stupid scanner reticule move any slower?

You can upgrade the scanner reticule move speed pretty early in the game.

How? I don't see it in the Ship Enhancement list. I'm already on Disc 2.
It seriously annoys me so much that I don't even bother scanning planets most of the time.

From what I understand, most of the game is on Disc 2.
The intro and endgame parts are on Disc 1.
They put the "body" of the game on Disc 2 so that players wouldn't have to keep disc swapping.

Once you recruit the professor, talk to Miranda about ship upgrade advice.

My strategy is to rapidly pull the left trigger while I move around. It speeds it up enough for me.

I did. Repeatedly. She didn't say anything about upgrading the scanners. Now all she wants to talk about is her loyalty mission. Bah.jkelso1 wrote...

Place the vibrating controller in your lap and scanning takes on a whole new dimension.

It's funny that there's actually an upgrade for that thing. It's like BioWare knew that people would find it freakin' boring and want that stupid scanner thing to increase in speed so they were like "RPG RPG RPG RPG! It's annoying so lets give it an upgrade instead of NOT making it annoying!"
"But.. that's impossible. It's beyond horrible in the first place."
"RPG! :D"
I hate the scanning. I wanna shoot the guy that made it up...

can you get more probes?? if so where??

Yea the scanning thing is a little annoying. There should be an option to just scan the whole planet for X amount of credits.

At a fuel depot. Press A to fill up on fuel and Y to fill up on Probes.johnny3rd wrote...

I think it's better than just clicking "Scan" and getting Random Object B needed for Boring Non-Quest D. It's not FUN, mind you, but I'm not sure how scanning a planet for resources is supposed to be made fun.

On paper (i.e in theory, since I'm yet to play the game due to release dates..) I'd prefer a more brain-involving activity or something that fits into the exploration theme more than jumping down on your personal 6-wheeled tank of destruction, and probing/scanning seems to fit that.

I enjoy it more than the driving up mountains death machine, but yeah it's pretty boring I like to read forums while I scan, or comics.

It's not necessarily a bad mechanic, it's just that the reticule moves reaaaaaaaaaally slooooooooooooooooowly.4skin22 wrote...

I agree with you Everittdaniel. I personally (Although I haven't played the game yet) could see this being not exactly fun, but engrossing, I am a completionist and have incredible patience so a mini game like this will appeal to me I think, and for that I thank Bioware.

The first 2 planets, scanning is enjoyable.
At the 5th planet scan you become annoyed and bored.
8th planet scan you are really frustrated.
12th scan makes you enraged and forcing a PC shutdown in order not to break it.
20th scan you are disappointed but you go on since you need the ore to research upgrades.
After the 25th scan, it comes natural to you as your first choice when visiting a new planet (especially a rich one). Hand/mouse movement is automatic (you now have the upgraded scanner anyway). Yes, you've become a bot.

I'm letting my son do the planet scanning, since he's not allowed (too young) to watch the rest of the game play.
Ya gotts to learn to delegate.

scaning is good in principle, but in practice...boring. Planets have too many resources, and theres not enough probes, 20 probes on one planet? You almost have to go fill up your probes after every planet, maybe every two planets, very tedious since you have to go all the way back to the fuel depot. your scanner moves toooooo slow, even after upgrading, terrible.
