On the one hand it's head gear that increases damage. On the other hand it's, as far as I'm aware, uncraftable. You could just craft a head piece for other races that increases damage by about as much.

On the other other hand, it channels your inner juggalo.

Hmm...Juggalo channeling or intact brain cells.
Choices choices.

That and without DLC the best Vitaar is locked behind shard collecting unless you want to RNG for something workable.

And the best helm is locked behind short list farming/cradle farming.

I'm sure it was done in the name of balancing out the race 10% physical resistance trait, but I agree that that doesn't excuse the hole in the crafting mechanics: vitaar should be craftable.

I think there is a disadvantage. Purely based on Utility or Offense slot count and by eyeballing the list of helm schematic stats, Qunari have a 4 to 10 slot deficit.

I know right? The lack of craftable vittar is what bugs me more than anything. You could use herbs instead of cloth or leather if you need to stay in lore.
That and that Kiss makeup is quite...an interesting vittar choice. I like the stripes one myself. Elfsnake I think? A crafted helm can have as much offence as vittar while maintaining it's defence's. I mean one would think it could with the str/dex/mag/willpower you can put on them.

Edit: It's made even weirder when you take Dread into account. >.>''' not sure what to make of that helm.

It's not all bad. Qunari make the most powerful mages by far thanks to it, an extra 17 or 20 damage for a mage is pretty significant. Especially when both rift mage and knight enchanter get advantages from doing extra damage. By that I mean that KE qunari can get more barrier back from damaging enemies than other mages (more damage gets more barriers, fade shield). RM qunari get more mana regen from doing more damage to weakened enemies than other mages (mana regen increases based on the damage you do to enemies, restorative veil). Don't screw with saarebas, I suppose.

I consider Qunari superior because of the Vitaar.  The fact they can boost the base damage of their weapons is just....unfair to every other race.

I consider them inferior because they can't craft any and rely solely on drops.
I still have no idea what to make of dread though >.>'''

A vitaar with 20 damage for a Mage is worth more than 40 dexterity (or wisdom, etc). Can you craft that?

I thought the highest vitaar was 17 at arishoks.
And no I probably couldn't but I van at least stack crit or crit damage. Vitaar's RNG rolls means you have to wait to find a good one. It's reliance on luck means while you could craft a better helm you must wait for better vitaar.

I believe vitaar of the dragon hunter is 20. That said it is easy to find. So is Aarishok's vitaar. Plenty of vitaar drops.

I admit vitaar has little impact for 2H, but some is better than none.

Doesn't arishoks require every single shard? And dragon hunter is JoH only, no?
And would vittar have little impact for warriors in general, as tanks would like more def/res stacking?

I honestly agree with those saying that Qunari make great DPS/mages with Vitaar. Tanks, eh, maybe dwarf warriors are better?

That is an excellent point. I hadn't really considered the value of the slots, versus their number.

And given that staves have relatively low base damage, even a flat +10 to damage is huge, as a percentage buff.

First off, most get the shards anyways (especially tanks) for the magic resistances. Second, they are easy to get. Third, even Qunari can wear the iconic Inquisitor helm decked out for high armor and mitigation.

*EDIT*. Nvm, no iconic helm for Qunari. I really gotta lay off the lyrium!

It does require you to wait for one to show up however. I think I've had the same vitaar for the past 5 levels,

Edit: About top (Don't wana double post) Qunari can wear the quizy helm? That would mean the metal one only right? I don't remember that being the case... I thought the only helm "qunari" could wear was dread? the shards are somewhat easy to get (some are near dragons however. Isn't one guarded by one of the more powerful ones in the emprise?) but their more annoying then anything else.

I stand corrected!!! What was I smoking? They can't wear the inquisitor helm. So I will admit that Qunari are inferior tanks.

Ya know now that I think about it the preview showed up when I was going to craft the quizy helm.
...Maybe they can? That...would be odd.

Edit: The preview showed up when I was going to make a templar helm. Still odd but it couldn't be made for him.

I always ignored Qunari. Everything started when I learned about Sten in DAO how he panicattacked over a stupid sword and killed peoples who rescued him. Death in cage for the bastard in every single playthrough. O no wait I rescued him once then I learned that I can kill him, and so I did, it was painful going through that stiff dialogs with the stupid bastard, but in the end his approval dropped low enough and I killed him. I don't remember what I did in DA2 the game was so bad that after final battle I immediately forgot everything, probably my mind blocked all my memories about that game to avoid psychological trauma. So I was little squeamish then that thing with undefined gender approached to me and told that someone by the name Iron Bull once to meet me. Alright so I went there and met him, my first reaction was “what kind ugly abomination is that?” At list in DAO they looked human but now it's just pumped with dopings cow and i can't even equip him properly? So in all my playthrough's i always ignored the messenger, howewer, undefined gender creature moves in my castle without invitation and sits in my bar, waiting... always waiting. Let him wait, maybe some day, maybe next week I'm gonna meetcha I'll meetcha!!...no probly not.

I'm not a fan of vitaar, but my objections are aesthetic. I like the Rashvine Vitaar, but it's obsolete almost as soon as you find it. Yet it's the only non-hideous vitaar in the game, so my qunari characters wear it. Yes, I will sacrifice stats over aesthetics. The worst part is that I'm not missing much.

Isn't rashvine the 3 lines? Not a fan of elf snake? I don't think anyone is a fan of the yellow kiss makeup >.>'''

It's amazing what can look awesome by tinting armor and exotic eye colors!

I'm not a fan of any opaque vitaar.
