Fallout 4 should unequivocally win every Game of the Year award without even being released as of yet.
I doubt it. In 2011, I remember Dark Souls winning a few Game of the Year awards although Skyrim and Portal 2 took the most, others were Legend of Zelda and Batman Arkham City. Point is: Bethesda can't pay off every publication. In 2010, New Vegas didn't even win any major Game of the Year awards (or any as far as I'm aware) and come on, we all know that it was better than any Bethesda developed game for years including Bethesda's own Fallout and most people agreed.
Isn't it time then that we realize "Game of the Year" awards mean nothing other that than some pretentious gaming "journalist" likes one game better than another or was paid to choose one game in particular over the many other major releases? I can give you the same opinion albeit altered to say Bloodborne is Game of the Year (and for me it is since nothing has come close to topping it) but apparently it doesn't carry the same legitimacy because I write on a forum instead of some pseudo-gaming feminist homosexual blog such as Kotakuaku or VG247. Publications like IGN are even worst so let's not even mention them.
Game of the Year is whatever you decide your favourite is. Simple as. So for gamers it will be a variety of games rather than the single game one "journalist" for one publication chooses or the best selling game that most major publications choose.
If you go by popularity and what sells well then Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is the real game of this year as it'll sell more than Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 combined times 10. In fact Black Ops 2 sold more on one platform (Xbox 360 - over 13 million sells) than Fallout 3 for example did on every platform (over 9 million) according to VGChartz. I have no reason to imagine that Black Ops 3 will sell less this year or have all the journalists gushing and wetting themselves over it (although admittedly, it looks like the developers are finally trying to add some originality to the campaign with customization of the main character and non linear missions, I won't be surprised if it ends up having more RPG elements than Fallout 4 lol).
Meh This year I have a feeling that I may not be able to decide on a GOTY. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was amazing. I expect Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to be great since Kojima is behind the reins and Fallout 4 from what I read and saw is going to make this year a slog to steal the GOTY. But so far since the Witcher 3 is out already its sitting on the throne to me personally. I ignore Batman Arkham Knight on the basis of the PC disaster and the overuse of the batmobile and you have to complete everything in the game to unlock all of the endings. Still gonna play it eventually.
But in conclusion I believe it'll be a 3 way fist fight between Snake, Geralt, and the Sole Survivor.
The Metal Gear Solid name carries a lot of weight both in the hardcore gaming populace and in the enthusiast press. Case in point, Metal Gear Solid 4 was the aggregate GOTY over Fallout 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV.
And I'm pretty certain that MGSV is going to be way better than 4.
Nevertheless, it's going to be a bloodbath, but I think Fallout 4 will win less awards than people think. Amongst certain samples of the hardcore RPG crowd it's now trendy to hate on Bethesda whereas the CDPR honeymoon is still ongoing, so those two games might split a lot of WRPG site votes. The other two contenders as I see them are MGSV and Bloodborne.
Really? None of you realized yet that Life is Strange?
Bloodborne might just be mine, along with a few others like Her Story and possibly MGSV. If only because it's among the few new games (the former ones anyway) I played and enjoyed so far.

Between the games awkward dialouge, ugly graphics, mostly horrible lip-sync and what is a pretty meh story up to what I played (stopped at ep3), I can't see this getting any GOTY awards, except from mostly obscure publications.

You must learn to summon far more hate, young padawan.
It is not truly hate until you feel like you could crush someone with your bare hands...

I don't hate it, I just don't see it winning many, if not any awards.
Regardless of this, my statement still rings true, young padawan.
