My canon Inquisitor:

- male human mage, didn't believe he was the Herald and didn't like the way the Chantry acted towards mages and the other races;

- he sided and allied with the mages and the Grey Wardens, and protected Celene in the Winter Palace, fixing her problems with Briala;

- he befriended everyone (yeah, even Vivienne and Solas) and romanced the Queen of the Inquisition, Cassandra;

- he thought Leliana was the best suited to being Divine, because she would have freed the mages and made the Chantry a more liberal organization.

So my favorite is my canon Inquisitor: Dalish Archer believes in Elven Gods, did not like being called the Herald of Andraste, kept telling people he had no idea if he was Holy, just trying to get through the day. Made friends with all his companions, he's a charming guy, but no romance.

I'm curious: your canon Inky is the one in your profile picture? Because I would totally romance him.

And I'm a straight male. Oh God, the mustaches...

Male Human Rogue (Assassin spec): I like to headcanon that he was trained since his early age to become a lay brother and a spy for the Chantry (something like Leliana). He is Andrastian and very conservative, but didn't like the idea of spending his life in a Chantry, he felt that he was destined for something greater and when he was called the Herald of Andraste he not only believed in it but believed the Maker was showing he was right about him being destined to do great things.

While being a religious man,he is also ambitious and manipulative, not above of doing dirty things to either advance his position or to restore and protect the Chantry (in that order of importance).

Romanced Cassandra: he was impressed by the beautiful and badass Seeker, the more he talked to her, the more he was attracted to her (specially by her cute romantic side). And she was a Pentaghast, a perfect match for a Trevelyan, so it was a win-win.

Sided with the templars because he saw him as the chosen to guide the holy back to the parth virtue. After the battle against Envy, he saw a oportunity to advance himself in the Inquisition and gaining more power by controlling the Tempalr Order, so he told them to disband and join the Inquisition.

At Halamshiral he had no horse in the race, since he is a Marcher and not a Orlesian, he couldn't care less about who will rule Orlais. While fighting his way through the palace he came across several evidences that he used to blackmail Celene, Gaspard and Briala, he would become the true power behind the throne. He spared Florianne, after denoucing her publicly, and later made her join the Inquisition so he could control all the orlesian royal family .

In Adamant, he left Loghain in the Fade because Hawke is a Viscount (so a more strong political ally, while Loghain is considered a pariah in Ferelden) and because without any leader the Grey Warden would need to find guidance in another place, and who better than the Herald of Andraste to guide them? He would use those idiots as cannon fodder, saving more lives of his own troops.

In the Arbor Wilds, he did the ritual, because both magical advisor on elfy things (Morrigan and Solas) told him to do it and later he allies with the Sentinels (the enemy of my enemy is my friend). He wanted to destroy the pool of heretical knowledge, but since it was not a option he let morrigan drink it, because he was not going to touch thath thing.

He supported Vivienne as Divine and she bacame it. He becase supported he trusted her, she has conservative views about the Chantry, told him she would keep both the tempalrs and mages in line and was the only one who he saw using the political aspect of the Divine job.

In Jaws of Hakkon he hid the fact that Ameridan was a elf to protect the Chantry and the new Divine from more problems who could bring more unrest and making hard to stabilize the situation.

Up to now:

1. Solas/Mage Lavellan. Well... that won't end well. Still not very far in this PT but I've seen all the spoilers and up to now it's the one who feels the most... impactful emotionally. He's quite determined to destroy the world we knows now when she's quite determined to show him that this world still worth it (even though if there was option to join him for his path I'd do it).

Still torn whether she'll drink from the well or not. She has mythal's vallaslin anyhow...

2. Cullen/Mage Trevelyan. A rather star-crossed lovers that end unbelievably really well. I was waiting for more drama with that lyrium story after the epilogue >_<

3. Mage Trevelyan/Cassandra.

I played Mage!Lavellan/Cullen but it doesn't feel as... befitting as Mage Trevelyan.

And my human archer canon romance is with Tal Vashoth Bull.

Right now I am playing a female human rogue (way to be rebellious but quiet about it/'less than sterling company when younger'). Planning to romance Josephine due to part of her backstory involving some...issues...with someone close to her in that regard.

Favorite by far is female mage Lavellan/Solas.

Second favorite is Cullen/female mage Trevelyan.

Not a fan of elf/human romances with the exception of Sera/Trevelyan. I think the size difference throws me off (although, hypocritically enough, I do like Qunari/human pairings).

Sera has a human body model, I think (not sure why).. so maybe that's what was throwing you off?

I think that's what I like about it :). It's regular elf body / human body that I find unappealing (regardless of gender of either component).

Male Elf Mage who believed in the Creators. Distrusted humans after numerous bad experiences with them while living with his clan. He never believed he was the Herald of Andraste. He drank from the Well, probably a bit too eagerly (His Merrill moment). Then he met Mythal and things started to change. Same later with Solas. Now he's having a crisis of faith.

He had a crush on Solas but could never even express it. (BioWare!)

He had a fling with the Iron Bull until he realized the Bull preferred Red Headed Human Girls (an awkward dialogue error I think, Bull kept commenting on a barmaid when I talked to him during the romance arc, so I felt like my quizzy would end it).

Fell in love with Dorian after some heated conversations about the elitist, tevinter, human who condones slavery but who also has the potential to change things for the better and is open minded.

I fell in love with my lady Trevelyan and Bull (now most likely married). I didn't expect it, but they became my fav canon (especially because of Trespasser).

My Trevelyan was a Rift Mage who sided with the Mages, made all 3 idiots of Orlais work together, made Cole a spirit, helped everyone she came across, had Blackwall forgiven, was friends with all her companions and advisers, wishes to redeem her best friend Solas and angrily disbanded the Inquisition.

I'm currently playing my second playthrough being a rogue for the first time, but I preferred my first one (female mage lavellan). It was my favourate because I made the choices based on what I wanted it to be rather than what i'm doing with my second where I am doing the opposite just to see what the outcome is in comparison. I also prefer mages in every game.

- Denied being the herald and claimed to be like everybody else. believes in elven gods but doesn't show any disrespect towards the chantry. Her allignment was neutral good I would say.

- I sided with the mages by choosing to go to the set up at Redcliffe and recruiting them.

- Chose rift mage specialization

- Recruited the grey wardens in hope to rebuild them and help the inquisition. I think it was worth the risk, and besides, alistair as a grey warden says the hero of Ferelden is searching to put an end to the calling.

- Exposed Florianne to the court, united the Empress and Briala and didn't save gaspard. Recruited Florianne as an agent for the inquisition.

- Became close friends with Dorian, Iron bull, and Cassandra. I had the approval of everyone but the friendships were more neutral. Romanced Solas - although it is the only romance that has a bad ending I still preferred it over Cullen  ^_^

- Did the elven ritual in the arbor wilds, allied with the elves and let Morrigan drink the well of sorrows because she was willing to take the risk and seemed to know more about ancient elves than my elfquisitor.

- Had Leliana become the divine.

I've always, always been drawn to the romance that seemed more plot relevant.

In DAO, this was Morrigan and Alistair. Later, with the development of Leliana, I did go back and do a run with her as well. Zevran though always seemed like an utter tag along to the main story. :(

In DA2, this was Isabela and Anders.

And in DAI, it's Solas and Cassandra, Solas and Morrigan remain my favourite romances by far in general.

A tiny, very small complaint I have is that the main romances are never bisexual/homosexual. I'm a gay man in real life, and I find it a little sad that I had to play a straight male or straight female in DAO to feel like my romance was relevant, and the same has happened in DAI. DA2 was of course different and I think I'm in the minority that loved the game for that (companions sexuality was dependant on Hawke. Male Hawke flirting with Fenris meant Fenris was gay, but a male Hawke that never showed interest meant Fenris was straight).

Yeah, it's such a tiny complaint I don't even know why I've said it. I think I'm just bitter because of Solas, really. My gaydar went off massively for him and I think him and male Lavellen would have been beautiful haha

I'd love if one of the more plot relevant romances in DA4 is bisexual and/or gay. I will not lie.

My favorite is Dalish mage romancing Solas. The whole game is a trauma conga line for the poor girl, and to me as a player it provides the most emotional impact and makes the playthrough very sad but also the most memorable:

Lavellan is forced (essentially blackmailed by Leliana) first to join, and later to become a figurehead of the human organization which exploits superstitions in order to expand its influence.

This organization encourages rumors of her being the Herald of Andraste, despite Lavellan's insistence that it isn't true. She is used to inspire faith and religious zealotry thus benefiting the religion whose adherents destroyed her people's homeland, herded city elves into alienages, hunt her brethren in the woods, teach that mages like her are sin in the eyes of the Maker and would have gladly put her into prison called "Mages' Circle" till the end of her days were it not for the Mage-Templar war and the Mark on her hand which makes her a useful tool for them.

Her clan - all her family, her friends -  may get killed as a result of her advisors mistakes, and they don't even say sorry!

I don't even want to specifically mention the Solas romance which completely deserves its nickname "Solavellan hell spiral".

Then there is all this new elven lore which painfully shows how despite all the efforts to preserve and rediscover their history the Dalish still lost so much.

Then Lavellan learns that one of the most revered Dalish goddesses still exists - but she has her own agenda now and doesn't care about Dalish who still worship her and pray to her.

Then Lavellan learns - and during a traumatic break-up with Solas, no less - that the vallaslin (symbol of "Never again shall we submit" for the modern Dalsih) were slave markings. Whether she decides to keep it or remove, learning the truth about vallaslin is still one of the most hurtful things in game, and the fact that it was told by Solas during what was supposed to be a sweet romantic make-out session - that makes it hurt even more.

By the end of the main game she is alone in the world - Solas left, her clan is dead, and she has nowhere to go anymore. So she decides to stay and do some good in her position, to reconcile elves, mages and the Chantry - but then she learns Ameridan's story, and it is like the final nail in the coffin. Like her, he was an elf, a mage, he lead the Inquisition, he had powerful political allies and friends - but after he sacrificed himself for the greater good of all they erased all mentions of his true identity, destroyed the Dales and continued to prosecute mages and elves. Lavellan can't help but noticing parallels.

And then Trespasser happens...

I absolutely love all this drama. And it's amusing and wonderful how different - much more light-hearted and optimistic - DAI is when you play as a human rogue/warrior, especially Andrastian, and romance, say, Cullen or Josephine.

I'm curious and don't mean to derail, but why have a 'canon' play through?

It just seems to me to imply that one play has more value or importance than another.

My favorite playthrough was as a pragmatic and businesslike dwarven enforcer warrior who belived in doing the smart thing and romanced absolutely noone, although he might have spent more time with Harding if doing so wouldn't have compromised his authority. And consequently might have gotten him killed. Concerning magic he tended to follow the advice of people who actually knew something about it, so he took the slow way through Mythal's temple on Solas' recommendation and let Morrigan drink from the well because she thought she could deal with it and nobody else wanted to.

I also liked him because he fit into the sequence of my elven rogue Warden and female mage Hawke. All genders, races and classes accounted for, not counting the Qunari. ^^

I think the best romances story-wise are a Circle mage who romances Cullen or a Dalish elf who romances Solas. The latter's greatest issue is that there's barely any content that it comes across as unfulfilling. Trespasser helped a bit but still. And, for me, the problem with both is I always enjoyed playing a female qunari most, yet story-wise they're pretty weak. Qunari, specifically Tal-Vashok, are just kind of there. A circle mage or an elf has relation with the main plot. I also really don't like the emaciated look of elves and after DA:O/DA2 get tired of playing human mages. My canon DA:O was a human mage who romanced Alistair; the only game I'm truly content with a canon. And so what romances does that leave? None of the remaining have the same impact to me as Solas/Cullen. Sera's has a lot of content but it's gay (which I'm not the biggest fan of; especially potentially cross-species) and more comical considering Sera's behavior. Iron Bull, being qunari, seems fitting but they really didn't tap into its potential. Most of the scenes between them were just sex-play.

Some do have more value; especially when you use them for imports.

Okay, just seems odd to me. Thanks. This is my most recent play, though didn't do Trespasser because I got Viv as Divine in my epilogue. No, just no.

Human Female Trev and Cullen, with a Warden Amell/Leliana still alive.

Templars recruited (If I go I recruit, plus Barris rocks)

Wardens redeemed. Stroud makes sacrifice, Hawke lives.

Celene and Bri reunited, Gaspard dead.

Florianne Jester

Morrigan drinks.

Personal stuff

Cullen is off lyrium
Saved the Chargers
Helped Leliana find herself
Josephine's family reenstated
Saved Solas' friend
Met Bianca
Humanized Cole
Dorian and Dad not talking
Redeemed Thom
Gave Vivienne the snowy heart
Let Sera kill the idiot
