Lavellen/ Drink from the well/ Sera Romance.

 

IT would have been Solas..but yeah.. solas romance is too depressing.

 

It is, but I like pain and hate joy.  So...Alistair, Anders, and Solas were the romance options for my primary worldstate

Hmmmm... I think my favorite's been my female Adaar playthrough. She was an atheist mage (KE spec - I headcanon that she was tutored by an elven apostate as a girl), romanced Sera , saved the Chargers, redeemed Rainier, conscripted the mages, let Morrigan drink from the Well, Celene on the throne (sorta iffy on that one but hey), Leliana as Divine.

I'm curious and don't mean to derail, but why have a 'canon' play through?

It just seems to me to imply that one play has more value or importance than another.

Works that way for some people. Definitely for me. There's always one playthrough that shines through as "the actual way things went."

I guess I can understand. For me, it's whatever play I feel like using that day. I just look at them as alternate worlds. All have equal value, just I feel like playing THIS one

I try so hard to do that! But at the end of it I'm just like... "yeeaaahh. but no."

Without using mods... my canon is probably a soft-spoken and slightly naive Dalish hunter who romanced no one. He did not drink from the well and he was pretty much friends with everyone. Umm I'm trying to remember what other choices might be important. He's a romantic, so he got Celene and Briala back together, but he felt really awful that Gaspard was executed. He recruited the mages because he doesn't know anything about templars and it seemed like the mages would be able to fix the rift. I guess that's about it.

 

Devastated by Solas's betrayal (I romanced him but that can't be canon). Perhaps even more distraught to learn the truth about his gods. It's a shame a non-romanced Lavellan can't learn the truth about his or her vallaslin.

 

Oh, continued the Inquisition because it gave him purpose when he felt he had none (and was really spiraling into a depression). (Happy) Leliana is Divine.

I completed the game only once with a male human warrior, and romanced cassandra now i'm paying a female human mage and no idea what is going to happen in terms of love interest, anything is possible....

My canon is a Lavellan Rift Mage who is romancing Cullen in one playthrough, and Solas in another. I love both romances but because I headcanon my Lavellan as tactile, rooted in the here-and-now Cullen suited her more.

 

Meanwhile, I don't see her as the type of person to fall for someone who was clearly enamored with the Fade and dreaming -- fascinating and enigmatic though Solas may be. When Solas leaves, so does she -- she locks away her feelings for him and does not look back. She got the feeling that Solas was somehow  ephemeral, oddly fleeting, and that he would leave her one day so she was like Nope.

 

Cullen was more approachable for my Lavellan. She liked that he was always there,commanding and fighting with the troops on the field, or back at the base, dispensing advice and counsel at the war table.  The fact that he so passionately believed in the Inquisition, and ultimately defeated his own personal demons impressed her. Cullen seemed more steadfast to her, his love more simple and straightforward. I like to think they developed a mutual respect for each other earlier on, something which made them very keen on each other.

 

I like the Cullen x Lavellan storyline because I've always been fond of stories about different people from two different backgrounds crossing paths  and falling in love in the most unlikely of circumstances. Because lbr here, Lavellan and Cullen would otherwise have never met if the stupid Breach never happened. But it has, so they're going to bump uglies to their hearts' content.

I picture Tenebrian Lavellan as having the temperament of a firm (but warm-hearted) nurse: level-headed, practical, with a dry sense of humor and a sharp tongue. A skilled healer, she favored the domestic, practical use of magic. While she held tremendous respect for her people's heritage and culture, her faith in the Elven gods were perfunctory at best; she was too preoccupied with staunching wounds, tending to the sick and setting joints to rights to pray to a god who was not likely to appear in the flesh to help her.

 

What she really believed in were people and their strength of will and character. She didn't believe in Andrastianism, but she believed in Cassandra and the strength of Cassandra's faith, which was why she ultimately supported Cassandra as the Divine. For herself, she didn't like being called the Herald of Andraste and she only very slightly preferred the title of Inquistor (it was good deal more sensible).  She recognized that, as the bearer of the Mark, she was the only thing standing in Corypheus's way. She was not nobody anymore, a simple Dalish mage soothing fevers and mixing poultices in some obscure corner of the world. She was someone who could save it.

 

The whole Inquisitor persona never got to my Lavellan's head, though it did bother her at times. She warily amassed power and influence, desiring none of it but recognizing that it was needed. She reunited Celene and Briala -- both of whom she only warily trusted but preferred over Gaspard, who seemed more...carnivorous in his ambitions. She sided with the mages, allied with the Wardens (she believed in second chances), chose to make Cole spirit, and drank from the Well because as agnostic as my Lavellan is, that Well was part of her heritage goddammit.

 

The revelations at the Temple of Mythal and Trespasser did not surprise her; they merely made her sad. She could accept the elven gods as power-mad mages easily enough, but the potential impact of these revelations for her fellow Dalish clansmen was the harder pill to swallow.

 

She disbanded the Inquisition in both the Solas and Cullen playthroughs; it was something she had long wanted to do. She was ready to return to her clan and fulfill her duties as her clan's First, or wed Cullen and live in relative happiness and peace (though I suspect that she might return to her clan if the current Keeper passes and there is no First to replace them. One day. Cue in the angst.)

 

She vowed to stop Solas regardless of whether or not she romanced him. She might have loved him once, but she loved this world more.

 

Those are my feels. They are many.

 

Other favorite play throughs: 

 

• A cold, hard, tough Lavellan in her sixties who is clearly using the Inquisition as a springboard to power. Iron Bull is her booty-call. She doesn't take Bull's role as a Ben-Hassrath lightly; in fact, she fully expects Bull to turn on her one day. And when that day comes, she will strike him down.
• A Templar-affiliated Trevelyan who starts to support the mages and falls in love with Dorian.
• And
• A mercenary Qunari who converts to Andrastianism following his appointment as the Inquisitor and his falling hard for Cassandra.

Yeah, Solas/Cullen were top picks for me too story-wise. But besides suffering from less content compared to all other romances, Solas treats you like a doormat and if you're aggressive about it the relationship is far less ...romantic. Cullen though is especially intriguing with a few prerequisites.

 

1. Having a female mage warden.

2. Your Inquisitor being a mage; preferably a Circle one.

 

There's just so much irony/character development in Cullen going from that PTSD Templar in DA2's act 1 ranting about how mages were merely "weapons" to actually marrying a mage roughly ten years later.
