As much as Bioware is famous for allowing players to romance their companions, I think DAI has the best companion-to-companion relationships in the series.

My personal favourite is Varric and Cole for the awesome father-son relationship that they have. Second would have to be Varric and Cassandra for how complex it is and how there's no definitive way of describing their relationship.

Which ones are your favourite?

Also, if it turns out that there is a similar topic like this, I would appreciate a link.

I loved Isabela and Merrill.  It really showed some depth to Isabela's character.  Good stuff.

Origins: Alistair and Morrigan's contention, followed closely by Morrigan and Leliana, and Dog and Sten.

It's always hilarious watching Alistair and Morrigan fight, and it's definitely a highlight of the game. I also love how Leliana started her relationship with Morrigan by attempting to go clothes shopping. Of course, Sten and Dog's weird respect for one another is really funny. Honestly, pretty much any combination of companions is awesome.

Awakening: Oghren and Sigrun.

Sigrun has some hilarious lines towards Oghren. I kinda think that Oghren's dialogue improved in Awakening, which probably helped his conversations with Sigrun. Though, again, any combination of companions is hilarious.

2: Aveline and Isabela, followed closely by Merrill and Isabela, and Anders and Fenris.

When Aveline and Isabela get together, hilarity is always on the horizon. I think it's funny listening to Anders and Fenris' debates, except it makes me feel bad whenever they try to bring Merrill into it. One of the things I love about Merrill is her contrast to Isabela. She wants to be like Izzy so much, even though she doesn't have it in her. They are almost like sisters, really. Varric and Isabela make any banter with any companion hilarious, so there's always going to be something to look forward to when you bring 1 or 2 of them along.

Inquisition: Varric and Cassandra.

The way they fight, they're almost like siblings or a married couple. I love it when Varric pushes Cassandra's buttons (in a non-sexual way). I also love Dorian and Sera's banter together. Dorian usually inadvertently annoys Sera, but always takes her retorts well. Once again, every companion combination is interesting.

Overall: It's hard to go past Alistair and Morrigan, but if I had to choose someone else, probably Varric and Cassandra.

Side note: I reckon that Merrill and Isabela are probably the two closest companions in Dragon Age. Merrill brings out Isabela's soft side more than any other person can (excluding Hawke)... even though all she does is be naive (and cute). Most don't get along too well, and the ones that do are often one-sided (e.g. Dorian likes Sera, but not the other way around), or it's more of a sexual relationship than a friendly one.

That's what I think. Normally Isabela will crack a joke or hit on someone, but when it comes to Merrill she acts like a big sister. Unless you romance or sleep with her, you probably won't see the deep side of Isabela, outside of her conversations (and card games) with Merrill.

For DAI, it would be Cassandra/Cole. I love the fact that she starts off distrustful and suspicious because of what he is, but once she sees that Cole genuinely wants to help people (including her, after her personal quest), then they develop this truly heartwarming friendship. My favourite banter is probably where Cole reveals that he fought a rat to get her brother's locket back.

Also in DAI, I really liked Solas and Dorian's relationships with Cole (both interesting and sweet). Dorian/Sera (like Cole, I was surprised at the friendship), Vivienne/Bull (another unlikely pair).

I loved Isabela and Merrill.  It really showed some depth to Isabela's character.  Good stuff.

This is perhaps my favourite in all three games so far! I loved their relationship, especially how protective Isabela was of Merrill, and how she tried to stop Merrill from falling into hero-worship. They had the best banters. Very cute and funny. I really wasn't expecting it either, at most I thought it would be like Isabela/Bethany (where Izzy befriends her and teases her, but they don't develop a deep bond).

I like how Isabela/Aveline develops, though they're both so catty to start off! I like Fenris/Isabela (including romantically). Fenris/Sebastian is quite nice. For DAO I'd say Shale/Sten. It's very adorable how fond Shale becomes of the totally-not-a-squishy-flesh-creature Sten.

Oh, that's a tough one.  My first impulse answer would be Dorian and Sera.

Of all time: Isabela and Aveline because Isabela and Aveline

  "W h o r e."  "That's my girl."   Yeah, I loved how they evolved over the game.

Also have to support the Isabela/Aveline relationship.  I agree that it's super catty at first, but the writers do a good job of making sure that it's clear that they genuinely (begrudgingly) like each other by the end.  My favorite line was, (in response to the Arishok asking for Isabela's return I believe), "If anyone gets to kick her ass, it's me!"  She'd been waiting 5 years at that point.  The line starts behind her!

I like Inquisition's inter-companion relationships the best too, so it's hard to choose a favorite! But all games have a couple I enjoy the most.

Origins: All combinations of Sten/Shale/Alistair.

DAII: Aveline/Isabela, of course. Also Varric/Merrill. (And Cole picks up on him still hurting for Daisy later aughhh) Unfortunately a lot of the companions in II were just at each other's throats all the time, so those two are the only ones whose development I enjoyed.

Inquisition: I love how Cassandra/Cole/Solas interact and develop each other's friendships. I'd deliberately stop whatever I was doing if a banter started because they'd usually end up so thought-provoking.

All time: Isabela and Aveline. Sincerely, the *best* follower to follower relationship ever.
DAI: Solas and Cole, Varric and Cole, and Cassandra and Cole. I B's relationship with the Chargers gets an honorable mention.

Definitely Sera & Blackwall.

It's what made two superficially unpalatable and boring characters likable and exciting.

I too enjoy Isabela and Merrill's friendship. My favourite moments were times when Isabela at times tries to gently teach her about certain harsh realities like the quest to find a man's wife only to find the remains of her hands which led to Merrill's shock and Isabela telling her that the world is harsh on women. Merrill didn't accept that at first but Isabela didn't force it on her. Another moment is when Merrill expresses a desire to be more like Isabela only for Isabela to tell Merrill that she deserves better and that Merrill should never try to be more like Isabela.

You might wanna reread the title.

For me it was.... uhhh..

Origins: Alistair/Morrigan. Yeah, cliché as ****, everyone loves them but come ooon! Sass, snark and sarcasm. Perfect!

Awakening: .... eh. I just liked Sigrun from that game.

2: the triangle dynamic between Anders - Fenris - Isabela. One is mad about mages, the other about non-mages and the last just doesn't care about anything.

Inquisition: there's quite a few here... Cassandra/Vivenne/Varric all combinations... Solas/Cole...  IB/Dorian... Dorian/Vivienne.
