is there some indicator that lets people know when a lobby is glitched?

I agree with you 100%, but the real question is at what point "dedication" becomes too much?

I played DAIMP about 840 hours now, that's freaking huge! For that "dedication", I got 60 Constitution, 103 Willpower and 104 Cunning. I'm barely past 55% of the defense caps in average. How is that not insane? 840 hours, I'm not even close to max!!!

The "dedication" expected from players is ridiculous, I can hardly blame some people from trying everything they can to get there...

(...)

As I have said before, I don't like the way Stats grinding work either. I don't like how Stats are made necessary to play most characters at the higher difficulties. I don't like the way the Leaderboards are. And I definitely abhor the RNG.

All that being said, I am not going to empathize with cheaters.

just food for thought but if every one is in a double EXP lobby then doesn't that mean nothing really changed from a normal lobby , I mean think about it if every one is doing it then there is no unfair advantage...... it means that if you choose not to do it that on you Q.o?  I mean if we all get 2x exp then nothing changes ? if every one is doing it....things just shifted to the right of the scale.... but those who play more will get more just the same  *shrugs* not saying its right or wrong just a random though

Sucks to be you guys?  I love that.  What sucks about being a gamer on the PS3 knowing now that our life support plug has been pulled?

With friends like you in the world, who needs enemies. Buc up,show some compassion for your fellow human beings. Unless of course it interferes with your actual gameplay, you know if your not soloing and stuff. LOL I bet you won't jump in a foxhole with just anyone, will ya? ;)

Well seeing as I probably have said more against the drop of PS3 & X360 support than most people in this thread and I also HAVE TO solo 98.9% of the time because of the stupid region locking, I don't see why I need to be anymore compassionate than I have been.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the people in this thread saw the post which basically said "something is being done, if you know you're in a glitched lobby then it'd be best if you leave as exploiters will be punished".

Some people in this thread like to use the Forum ToS against others when blatantly ignoring the actual games ToS.

All I know, there's gonna be a lot of this happening when the ban hammer goes in full swing.

m if PS3 and XB360 have no more support after patch #8 and the fix is coming in with patch #9 as many beta testers said it is fixxed in the beta....doesnt that mean the bug as far as the old gen systems go will never be fixxed?

and region lock? I have played with people from around the world

I have been approached by Russians, dubaians (is that what you call some one from Dubai?) Europe, Scotland, France, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Africa, and Australia.

I have meet players litrlly from around the world and it is awesome when they all know who I am.......I have had so many interesting conversations with people who couldn't speak a lick of English.... where we talked through text to chat translations on the computer, but yeah some times you get those cross region matches  :)

Matchmaking is regionlocked, if you're playing with someone you've been matchmade with who's anywhere outside of the US it's because someone has sent them an invite. Trying to matchmake in other lower populated regions is very different from US matchmaking. The only time i have ever played with US players for example is when I have been invited or someone else has invited them to my games. The game will not allow you to automatically join someone from a different reigon like that.

Well there is no way you could be matched with anyone in Australia/Middle East/Africa unless they have been invited to a lobby created by one of there friends in your region or they are playing with you from 50 years in the future where Internet is beamed down via super fusion lasers with 0ms pings from the new Mars colony.

Also it might have nothing to do with patching the software on the user side and might actually be a problem from the DA:I servers?

Seems to be more about server coding.

People joining now don't even have a hope of making it on the leaderboards anyway, and Fidzy already stated they aren't resetting the leaderboards, period.

Yumi, I would disagree. On my leaderboard there is a fella whose prestige is 1220 now and was around 700 5 weeks ago so you never know if you keep taking that go-go juice!

One can also land in a glitched lobby by accident. However, if one decides to play there continuously for hours fully aware of the broken XP reward, one is unethical.

This whole topic has left me struggling with a few questions.

Like, where do you draw the line? What about the people who ended up in these lobbies, benefited from it and stayed for the remainder of the games because they thought the extra xp is awesome. Should they have known better? How can they? Should they also be punished I wonder? BioWare doesn't communicate with the community through ingame means (i.e. an announcement window or something similar). This negligence on their part is what has been bugging me the most. All of us BSN'ers know more or less what's going on but the 'normal' player just wanting to play the game without being interested in this part of the community will leave them in the dark about certain changes, glitches and whatnot. Ingame announcements don't have to be huge; it'll suffice giving a short description of the news item and refer the player to these parts of the forums if they want more details. Why can't this be implemented? Technical limitations? This would be a huge improvement for communicating with the whole player base, not just BSN. :(

A really valid point.  Some people may just assume it's a continuance of the Double XP weekend -- double XP summer.

4.5 exp summer, that you have to glitch for. Awesome event. Not making fun of you, Parthian. I think you are being sarcastic, at least I hope so.

I can imagine it now, ppl getting banned right before the biggest content patch since dragonslayer dlc. The sweet salty tears will flow. Maybe it was a good thing to wait 5 or 6 weeks until ban hammer hits. It only makes the blow hurts moar.

I land in lobbies often where it's being done.  For the most part, I confess I don't pay attention to the gold and kill count as I play the game.  I do notice, though, if I receive more levels at the end than I should have.  But unless I land in a lobby as they are actually arranging the mechanic (I haven't had this happen yet, it's usually already done) or the host announces (as has happened to me once) this is a double XP/double gold run, there's not much way to know until I'm playing.   Because I know it's an exploit, I recognize what has happened.  If I did not know it was an exploit, what might I think?

Edit to add:  I'd like to see bans. I know that's not necessarily a popular opinion.  I don't like cheating.  Whether it harms me or not, is open for debate and in my view is immaterial.  Cheating is cheating.   But given the observation above that there may be a fair number who don't even know they're reaping the rewards of an exploit, it seems unfair to that part of the population.  I have to conclude then, that as much as it disappoints me that people will be able to cheat and get away with it, that we are unlikely to see any bans.

A while back, there was this thing a lot of people did: bring level 20s to get to zone 5 and switch to a level 1 on the last wave to get them leveled quick.  Other than two people I regularly played with, all the rest of the PC "leaderboard elitists" did it.

Bioware obviously did not approve of this practice, because they fixed it so that you can't anymore. But since no one brought it up in the forums for the longest time, there was no communication from Bioware about its legitimacy.

Was it unethical? Depending on who you talked to, yes: some people thought that it was cheating and have tried sabotaging games where people did it.

So, to [edit: those who practised other glitches but judge this one, are you truly on the ethical high ground?] Do you really think your hands are cleaner and you are less ban-worthy just because the double xp glitch is the one you decided to draw your personal line on?

Why are so many people in this community so eager to cull its members just because a subset is enjoying the game in a way that they don't like?

Edit & TLDR

Don't know what would be an appropriate "punishment" here, but I don't think banning is the right solution either.

Edit again: TY lots ParthianShotX for the pointer :)

A really valid point.  Some people may just assume it's a continuance of the Double XP weekend -- double XP summer.

Or just not even notice that it happened.

I had yet to encounter a glitched lobby in my PUGing on PS4... and then last night I encountered my first one. Caused by me, apparently, completely unintentionally. I have not sought out any information on how to purposely glitch lobbies, but it must be tragically easy to accidentally have happen. I had joined a PUG lobby, didn't notice anything unusual or any giant XP increase when the match finished. PUGs left and lobby made me host. I invited a friend in and we filled the other two spots with PUGs. These are all things I have done plenty of times before and everything has been normal. But after we ran our first match like that, my friend said he got double XP (I didn't notice if I actually got that either... I didn't seem to jump massive levels, but to be honest, I never pay attention that much attention to it, I just try to kill things).

I was horrified. I didn't do anything intentional, all I did was end up as host after PUGs left a normal match and that was apparently enough to somehow cause the glitch. I just don't even. What?

I immediately vacated the lobby and created a new, legitimate one, pulled my friend back in, and grabbed two PUGs and the remaining matches were normal. But not gonna lie, it kinda scares me how easily this apparently is to accidentally do. Now I gotta be all paranoid and leave any lobby I "inherit" hosting status from, I guess. Really hope they fix this soon.

Never glitched a lobbie and never exploited the change character Zone 5 xp gain.

Even with the Z5 exploit the leaderboards were still growing at a normal rate.. You just need to look at the LB now and it is rather obvious who is taking full advantage of this exploit.

So it really has nothing to do with players thinking it's still double xp weekend or they stumbled into a lobby by mistake.

Personally i don't feel it is as bad as people who purposely join games, then afk the entire game to get XP... However, people shouldn't be getting off lightly for exploiting any MP game.

I wouldn't say its an ethical or moral question ... this is a video game its not pvp orientated and you get nothing for being ranked, besides bragging rights and a pat on the back. people say ethics and morality and I think like, wow is this really on the same level as stealing or robbing some one or finding a bag full of money and keeping it. No....No, it is not at all like that. I have put in massive amounts of hours into this game and I play it religiously every day.... but you want to hear the honest truth.... at some point you look at all the time spent and you have to make a choice.... you just stare of and you wounder and realize.... what the heck am I still playing, what the freaking frack am I doing? then it dawn  on ya...... you love the game you have a lot of fun meeting people, and having those awesome funny conversations with all types of people..... and that's what its all about....   every one needs to push the B.S. aside and look at it for what it is,  its just a game....an awesome game, yeah it has its problems and hang ups, but it is just memorizing for some of us....... ethics morals.... they have as much of a place her as it does on a play ground with a bunch of 5 year old's..... we are all playing to have fun... and that's the simplistic truth..... Idk if any one out there has as many hours in the game as I do... but that's the realization you come to...... I look at every one on this forum new and old casual and hard core and I think..... with all the fussing and the complaining....are you... honestly going to be here playing this game for the long hall 6,8,10, 12 months from now.... I know I am.....yeah I say I''m the god of damp... and I feel like I'm just going to watch a lot of you fade into dust..... so I ask you.... with all your gripping..

why do you play

will you be here till the end..

what motivates you

and as far as this game goes whats really important to you....

if you cant  answer all these questions honestly to your self, then why do you even play...... because its not for the fun, if its for the ego then your not going to last.... because let me tell you once you hit that sweet number one spot, it feels good for about a day or two, and like I said you look back on it all, and you have to come to grip with why do you still play

for xbox one there have been 4  long term ranked number one players.... in order... (names maybe spelled wrong, hell most likely are spelled wrong lol) renistil, silverisking, bruder, and myself... and you know what, they all left because they have all been confronted with what I have just talked about above..... they all left the game after hitting the top...and the difference between all of them and me is..... I truly love this game, maybe not entirely for the game play but because of the people that I me, the people that I help, and the feeling that I get from know that I helped add something to this game...regardless of how small or fickle it maybe... .

Personally I'd like to think my Deities are of the honest and hard working type, but aside from that to make a comment that even though DAMP is a game there is no connection to morality or ethics is just sad. Yes I will agree that say murder or robbery in real life are serious and not the same as playing and cheating in a game, but where do morales and ethics start...  I for one was taught them initially through games and the actions of my parents. While I do not agree with bashing someone's personal character over a game, I also do not agree with absolving them of their actions just because it is a game. When talking about drawing lines you must be careful because the line is ever-changing once you dismiss one thing as not as important as another, and soon there is no line so to speak.

However, if someone wants to cheat that is their business and their conscience that will be affected. To me I see that some people who have abused the glitch must feel guilty or are worried about the consequences in order to so vehemently post on the forums. If they truly did not feel guilt or fear then why be bothered over what someone else says or the chance at being banned. You mentioned why does someone play, even you questioned the amount of time you put into this game, and a lot of people that have used the glitch have also spent a lot of time in this game. Time is one of the biggest measurements of value in our society, and it is very reasonable for anyone who has invested in damp to feel there is value to your accomplishments.

Maybe damp is the first game you have ever gotten acknowledgement from, in the form of the leaderboards, and also from the community wither it is good or bad. It is the first game like that for me, and if it is for you as well then I can understand your attachment to it. Please do not de-value your own achievements though by supporting cheating or by questioning why others play the game if it is different than your own reason. I also play the game for the relationships I have made, but truthfully I mainly play the game because I enjoy the promotion system that some others seem to lament. There may be some things broken within this game, but if the game were truly as broken as some people say it is, then why are there so many people who have spent hundreds and even thousands of hours playing.

What I would ask you since you seem to truly enjoy this game, is that why would anyone chose to cheat and possibly be banned and lose access to the thing they loved, especially if they had attained such high promotions and hours played? (Not stating you specifically have done so mind you, but we all know that several people on the leaderboard of Xbox One have used and continue to use the glitch)

I just can't fathom losing the 1,300hrs I have played due to cheating, it's not a holier-than-thou attitude, it's a survival instinct. I do not like cheating because of how it makes me feel, but also do not cheat because I do not want the consequences that rightfully come with cheating. Again, I feel bad for those not aware of the issue or those that feel bullied into doing it by friends, and that there has not been some kind of in-game warning to those that do not frequent the forums.

As a parent, I actually wanted to point out that teaching ethics and morals does, in fact, start with the 5 year old on the playground and well before that (and it goes on and on).
