I love Dorian because he is perfectly imperfect.  And he looks like he smells nice - possibly like Kenneth Cole Black. And he's a snazzy dresser.  He's by far my favorite companion character in any Dragon Age game.  I would say sass-wise his personality and my actual personality are very compatible.

I also really like Bethany in DAII because of the dynamic of her relationship with Hawke.  I always played Hawke as female and loved the sisterly dynamic they had.  My sister died when she was 19 and I was 18, so I might be channeling some of that loss into their relationship since my sister and I always had each other's backs like that.  But hey, we all have our things.

I really liked Anders pre-Justice too.  Anders was everything.  Then he lost his Anders-ness.  I miss sparkle fingers Anders.

All my favorite characters are mages.  Who knew?  My favorite inquisitor is a mage too. I do like Isabela and Varric a lot too.  Varric seems like a reasonable guy who will always have your back.  And Izzy, well.. she might run off and never return but she'll make your life interesting.

Hawke.

I know, most people hate her (okay I know s/he can be both, but mine was female so... yeah I'll refer to her as female) although some people like the sarcastic version, I liked my diplomatic Hawke. It was refreshing to be able to play a normal human who wasn't a noble nor had anything particularly special about her like the taint or the anchor. A true rags-to-riches story. And the mage version has the extra dose of being a free mage whom although was educated in Circle magic nevertheless was free to develop magic the way she wanted. I feel a missed opportunity there to be fair. I loved the family dynamic-of having a mother and sibling to care about.

Despite all that yeah the story was rougher/more poorly written on Hawke than was necessary. She didn't have to lose her mother, sibling and potentially her other sibling too. (Or have said sibling ripped away from her for most of the game.) She didn't deserve to be relegated to simple "bystander" or "witness" who simply watched the real progatonist, Anders, change the world.

Anyway I really like Hawke and was delighted to see her show up again in DAI. Again its a shame she didn't have a bigger/better/more instrumental part in defeating Cory. And on an added note, my Trevelyan Inquisitor and Tabris (female) Warden are closely behind Hawke.
