Yes, really.
Nature is incredibly cruel, with unspeakable suffering going on every day without a single human involved.

Thank you One Punch Man.

Right being at the top means we can be cruel monsters to animals.
Yeah no f**k that.
yes it does, after all animals only exist to serve us
I mean.
It's pretty evident just how moronic that statement is.
"Animals are cruel to themselves and therefore it justifies human cruelty to animals."
At least that's what I garnered.
Unless that's not what you meant.
In that case.
Gomenasai.
One reason to keep around the large apex predators is that they are much better at managing ecosystems than we are. A good example of that is Yellowstone National Park and what happened in the decades after the last wolf had been hunted, and in the time since they were reintroduced.
If lions go extinct many areas in Africa are going to be experiencing many of the same problems that Yellowstone faced in the absence of wolves.

Fak
Was about to post that.

Tell that to the next animal that attacks you.

thats what guns are for
i have a question - who the **** cares about animal rights? humans are at the top of the food chain so we have the right to do whatever we want to the stuff below us
thats what guns are for
Let's hope you are a good shot.
Or that squirrel will take you out and never learn what you are trying to teach it.

I am the Daedric Lord of bad jokes

The lion means nothing to me as I did not know it and see no reason to show empathy. If you want to save animals, focus on the ones more heavily endangered like the Northern White Rhino (four left).

With that said, I would remind everyone that Apex Predators maintain the levels of other animals and thus have a direct effect on the nature of their habitat. New foliage has grown in certain areas in Yellowstone since the re-introduction of predators to hunt the blossomed prey population. The latter has avoided certain areas which has allowed areas to experience a rebirth in plant life.
I would also remind you that Mankind has claimed the throne of Earth's Apex Predators (Very few animals will actively hunt humans and most of those incidents involve being faced with severe hunger and thus deviating from their usual diet. .. but **** Nile Crocodiles man.) at least as far as terrestrial life is concerned. Jump in the ocean and you fall a few notches on the food chain. Regardless, its a power to be used wisely and with purpose.

Interesting. This makes me wonder as to what extent this really goes. Like, if someone believes they have the "right" to drown dogs because it's enjoyable for some reason. It'd be interesting and amusing to see the a-hole who does it argue that it's their right to do so to the authorities if caught.
On the internet its hard to tell whether someone's just being a tryhard or trolling, but sadly there probably are a lot of people like that. If there weren't shelters wouldn't be so overloaded with abandoned dogs and cats. There are a lot of dicks out there who just see their pets as things.

only if its a sabre tooth
yep, and a terrible one
Trolling or just being edgy.
Animal cruelty is not funny or cool. And most of all it's not right.
And yeah I never get people that look at their pets like that.
Every cat I have every owned has been a friend to me.

well okay i am trolling, mostly because im annoyed by people who care more about saving animals than saving other people
i do however hate dogs ![]()

That is a logical fallacy. Just because someone is vocal about animal rights doesn't necessarily mean they don't care about human rights.

and yet a lion gets more coverage than the genocide currently going on in the Middle East?
I strongly encourage you to read the whole article.
Famed lion killer, Dr. Walter Palmer, the American tourist who went to Zimbabwe and murdered Cecil the Lion, has taken a page from the Planned Parenthood's playbook and is blaming the bias of the anti-hunting photographers who have edited their footage to sensationalize the story.
In an interview to be aired this Sunday with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Dr. Palmer is calling for Nancy Pelosi, congressional Democrats, and the Justice Department to launch an immediate investigation into the Zimbabwe nationals who took the now famous photos of Dr. Palmer's kill.
George Stephanopolous: Did you murder Cecil in cold blood?
Dr. Palmer: The only guilty party are the undercover photographers who are trying to entrap me and they have been completely unsuccessful. That's why they are showing these highly edited photographs to be sensationalized. It's completely taken out of context... The folks behind this, in fact, are part of the most militant wing of the anti-hunting movement that has been behind, you know, the bombing of hunting farms... That's what actually needs to be -- to be looked at.
Dr. Palmer goes on to explain the humanity of his killing by saying that all the leftover parts of the Cecil's carcass have been harvested and fed to the less privileged starving animals.
"My killing of Cecil is for the greater good," Dr. Palmer continued. "Africa is suffering from animal inequality, where privileged lions are at the top of the food chain, destroying the families of the disadvantaged hoofed animals and harassing their entire vegan collectives with impunity and with no animal advocacy group protecting their rights. Think of me as the animals' Robin Hood, warrior for animal justice, taking from the rich and giving to the poor. The killing of Cecil was an act of compassion that will better serve the animal equality of Next Tuesday."

Every animal our family had as pet was part of the family. Those bonds go deep, bro.
you know what? maybe instead of lions we should shoot journalists, that would solve half the world's problems

Cats are jerks, though. They just use you for food and occasional cuddling.
I disagree, cats have many personalities from being jerks to being super sweethearts. They also play with you, talk with you and sleep with you and they can even be there for emotional support.
You form bonds with them like they can form bonds with other cats or dogs or whatever.
Friendship is not exclusive to just one species.
That is a logical fallacy. Just because someone is vocal about animal rights doesn't necessarily mean they don't care about human rights.
Especially because if you do go around being vocal about both you might get labeled a......<gasp>.......SJW.
The fact is that it's totally fine with be upset with multiple issues around rights but to have one or two that are the most important to you. And it's subjective.
Just to clarify, though, even though I work in conservation (for a large non-profit), I am not for "animal rights". I'm for "animal welfare". Animals don't have basic rights the way that humans do. "Rights" are a socio-political concept. Animal rights people usually make me nervous because they are fringe extremists and give all conservationists a bad name. And I'm perfectly fine with eating meat (and lots of it).
That being said, animals deserve to be treated with basic welfare. In humane ways. Subsistence hunting (my extended family - not me - are hunters and eat a lot of venison; although venison is tasty) should be regulated. I personally feel that hunting for sport should be banned for all endangered species. If it caries anything but a "not threatened" IUCN status, it should be off the table. And all animal farms should practice humane housing and slaughtering practices.
