More than likely, human.  Doubt there will be an alien race selection outside of MP.

I believe human only protagonist has already been confirmed.

We're playing as humans in the SP and I think a variety of races in MP, like in ME3.

So far, it is a disappointing "No"  :(

Though DAI was initially confirmed to be human-only, so one can still hope  :D

Sorry to say we'll be human only, but if they delay it which I'm sure there is a strong chance of. Maybe they will add race opitions like they did for DAI.

Glad to see they aren't adding race options. The options did very little in DAI - elves play pretty well dwarves and Qunari are crap. The more options you get the less any of those options mean.

I think ME:A single player will always be human centric. So, no alien race selection.

It's like Star Trek with an alien captain of the Enterprise.  It's weird.  Not saying aliens aren't in command in the Federation, but the Enterprise is the flagship.. Doubt there would be anything but Human or Vulcan.

But Vulcans are aliens, so there have been alien captains of the Enterprise.

Playing as an Asari wouldn't be too much of a stretch.  Just humans with blue skin and odd heads.  But they're all female and I think a lot of guys might have a problem with that.

The addition of race selection in DAI came as the result of the time extension they were unexpectedly given by EA, and prior to that time extension, no release date had been given. We have a release date for MEA, which, while subject to change, likely isn't going to be pushed back by a full year to make this sort of thing viable.

Speaking as someone who's generally strongly in favor of race selection in these games, I've posted in other threads about how it's really not viable in ME due to animation and voicing resources, unless they limited it to human asari, and drell.

And no one wants that.

I have a feeling multiplayer is where we will get our alien selection from again, which is perfectly fine of course.

I'm sure you all are talking about species, not race.

How about you just let me have my hope, huh?

Honestly, playing as just human again sounds SO booooooooriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggggggg. Why give us such cool alien races if we can't play as them? Be like playing the Elder Scrolls but only Imperials are playable.

And I gotta say (Even though I don't know really alot about game design) but why animation and voicing problems? You can play as alien races in multiplayer without issues, just "copy paste" that over to SP, and DAI proved that you can have different sounding voices for characters.

The reason they will not put aliens in SP is because they would essentially need time and resources to animate a version of every cutscene for every race. If they do a scene for a human an just swap the character model for a Krogan one for ex, there would be a LOT of clipping.

Da:I had a lot of flaws because of the various races. Clipping issues with Qunari (heads sinking in the chest because they were looking at smaller characters), and elves had that stupid broken arm problem. I don't know about dwarves because I never played with one.

And the technical issues wasn't the only problem in DA:I. Most of the content that actually acknowledged your char from being form the race they were was given to us in the form of war table missions to spare resources.

This only worked with DA:O and Skyirm because the characters were standing still most of the time in the cutscenes, moving only their heads or other really small moves, thus making it way easier to swap the models without major problems. But in the newer games, characters tend to move more to make a more "cinematic" feel, so just swapping the models is a bad idea.

So unless they were given way more time definitely more time than they had with DA:I, which is completely irrealistic to hope because of EA), we better get used to play with the other races just in MP.

It isn't just animation. i made this point in a thread for DAI That having many races (species as someone else pointed out is actually the term but we all understand the term) doesn't make sense. The experience of human Spectre Sheppard would be a radically different game than Asari Spectre Sheppard. The way origins handled it, after the origins, was to call your elf a knife ears three times in the game and then proceed with the same conversation as if you were human. That is terrible. In something like TES games the races are all fungible so no one cares what race you pick you are selecting for stat bonuses and aesthetics but Bioware games rather it is the ME or DA universes these different races have different experiences and should not just be a skin on a model. It should matter in the story and if it doesn't matter to the story then the story likely sucks.

I get what youre saying, but that just sounds like faulty writing imo. If the races were designed to be implemented from the get-go, DAI could've been alot more player-race orientated. And why should race have such a drastic impact on the story? I think DAO got it pretty perfect. Your race was important for where it was supposed to be important, not every sentence of dialogue should have to be about whether youre an elf, asari, human, alien, whatever.

And as a personal aside, was the fact that Shepard was human make him/her special in any way? I've only played ME2, and Shepard was such a one-dimensional character, he/she could've been a Volus for all I cared.
