Ha, you noticed! :D Yeah, I have problems making Hawkes because of lack of hair, so I thought I'd do something funny this playthrough.

Spoiler

Anyway, on-topic: I'm really hoping that list won't be what happens, but I don't have much confidence. Plus, I might be able to be pleasantly surprised. It reminds me of ME3: Omega. Little storyline that didn't make a difference to the overall story, no companion content (at least we'll get some here), and a new character who was irrelevant after the DLC; not even mentioned again. That's a problem with DLCs like this, and I guess that's why a lot of people are disappointed it's not post-end only - it can't make as many meaningful changes/additions. So yeah, I'm also worried that whatever we discover has to be small enough that it can get away without a mention later, and the new characters are pre-destined either to die or never appear again.

I tried to make mine look different, but I'm aware I have an particular sense of aesthetic when making an character.

Spoiler

TBH, the only thing that could save this DLC from irrelevance is an final confrontation with the Architect himself, or even better, an Old god.

Where you got that impression is beyond me

The overly heavy combat focus, hooks like "battle the ultimate darkspawn hoard!" the companions having no dialogue or focus, the vague and generic "we must kill this monster causing earthquakes or the world will end" and so on. *shrug* it doesn't give me the impression of something deep in story and characters for a single player but rather as an operation/raid/whatever where you and your friends are given a weak excuse to go dungeon crawl and kill something powerful.

Generally a trailer tries to highlight the strengths of the content and with this trailer it was combat and environments for the most part. It looks like a multiplayer or MMO add-on rather than a (story driven) single player DLC but maybe it won't actually feel like one, who knows? I definitely plan to wait for a let's play. When it comes to DA:I reviews are too divided for me to get a clear picture. That's what I did with JoH (which made me not buy it).

JoH was light in story when it came to character moments, but it added some good lore bits. I enjoyed, but you're probably right not to buy it for yourself.

That being said, I disagree with your assertion that light in story somehow equates to multiplayer. There have been many SP games without a significant story focus.

Sorry I should have been more specific. It doesn't seem to live up to what I used to expect from BioWare single player content: strong character, story, roleplaying, and cinematic elements. It seems more like their ME3 MP or DA:I MP. The style and focus also remind me of other MMO's.

There are plenty of crappy or story-light games out there (I wouldn't buy them) but you'd expect it more from an MMO or similar.

Out side of the fact that what ever we find there is going to turn the lore on it's head.

Not complaining at all, but they drop the bomb less than a week in advance for release date?  Sweet.  Wish this kind of stuff happened more often.  Then again I may just be out of the loop and lots of people knew in advance.

I feel the urge to point out that I don't generally expect story light to be geared mostly towards MMOs, but I'm probably just splitting hairs.

Rather it's almost guaranteed for MMO's where SP games at least have a better chance of having story and substance.

Think about it this way. Most  bioware dlc's barely have any character growth outside the player character or the character the dlc is centered around if there is one. Any main character that were in the main story remain static from where they were left off in the main story in which the most we get out of them in the dlc is learning more about them.  Dlc are always centers around combat and some new addition to the gameplay with the exception of the citadel and some parts of stolen memory.

Expecting any more then that is unrealistic.

Lair of the Shadow Broker kind of does this, since it focuses a great deal on Liara's character.

Is it bad I was hoping the trailer would end with a view of the Inquisitor and then hearing the Architect's raspy voice saying, "So you are the leader of the Inquisition."? Since the Architect has frustratingly not reappeared since Awakening, this would be the perfect spot to bring him in. Even if you killed him, it's almost certain he's the same type of creature as Corypheus so they could bring him back without much fuss. And I love the idea of him inadvertently causing troubles above ground, since that's precisely what happened in Awakening. Still not happy that they're sticking with the DA2 darkspawn design (I thought DAO's looked perfect), but they look less plastic-y so that's good.

Anyway it seems to me that this has something to do with the rock wraiths (the big thing at the end of the trailer), or maybe with the titans that are name dropped once. As for the armoured things I'd guess those are either Dead Legionnaire ghouls or Kal Sharok dwarves. God there are so many directions this can go in, I'm so pumped! If only I had enough money to buy it when it comes out!

Which is why I said in my statement:

Liara would be that. with that dlc. Note that the other character of the story out side of her and Shepard did not except  for messages in the shadow broker hub.

Maybe rock wraiths are Titans?

I'd expect more character development from a 'Wolf hunt'/ qunari invasion DLC. Being locked in a huge dungeon fall of Dark Spawn, it doesn't seem likely there'll be too many interesting people to meet. Wonder if we'll meet Ruck though... find out soon enough.

Let the Archtect stay dead, we don't need 6 Corypheus' clones, let only him have that kind of ability.

Given that this DLC was outsourced, I'd definitely suggest going into it only expecting the bare minimum in terms of plot and character development.

The next (and last) DLC is going to be the "real" DLC.

It was never established that he only had that ability, since it makes sense for all the Magisters to have it similar to the Archdemon

I'd definitely be up for meeting the Architect again, especially after hearing he was originally going to be in Here Lies the Abyss.

I got the exactly opposite vibe. Like, this will be another Legacy.

And Legacy was by far the best DLC they released for Dragon Age franchise. That DLC alone had more lore and story than entire base DA2.

So I'm definitely hoping for something like that with "The Descent".

Of course I may very well be wrong.

Legacy's existence is why I don't get people's attitudes about Descent not being post-game only. As if that somehow precludes it from having anything in it that will be ultimately meaningful. Legacy you could play as early as Act 1. You fight your way through learning about your dad, and this mysterious darkspawn, and meet a freaking magister....then just fight and kill him. Me and my friends were like "Well....alright. That was anticlimactic."

Three years later, he's the new Big Bad.

Plus, this looks like it's going to be a relatively linear dungeon crawl. Not a huge open area like the Frostback Basin. It will be much easier to put a coherent story in something like that, a la DA:O's Deep Roads.

Oh look, another darkspawn DLC. Featuring Bioware trademark silent companions, I can't wait.

Hmm.  Might have no relation, but that jumped out at me.

Haven't we played Origins, Awakening and Legacy already? That's just another dungeon crawl.

If there were any interesting story elements(Architect, Fade survivor, anything) - they'd have mentioned it in the trailer, the way it was shown in KOTFE trailer. They didn't. So, it's a long and boring journey through Deep Roads, only with better graphics - and no dialogue.

And no sight of Solas. Again. :(

Excellent! I am glad you were able to purchase and thoroughly play the Descent DLC almost a week before anyone else...I mean since obviously you know the outcome and plot of it already.
