Surely, a lot of effort went on this.
It is possible to be worried about the story content of this DLC without being a dick, you know.
I have yet to see a Dragon Age SP DLC that is a complete disappointment. What the heck are you talking about?I would love to be wrong, but so far this trailer showed absolutelly nothing more then the Inquisitor fighting hoards of Darkspawn. People put way too much faith in BW. Do they have such an short attention spam to forget all the times the completely disappointed us?
I haven't been disappointed by BioWare (story) DLC since Golems of Amgarrak
(which I do note was ironically a deep roads dungeon crawl...).
So was Legacy.
Just saying ![]()
Also, the DA team hasn't made a SP DLC or expansion with no story so far, and I don't expect them to change that now, given that people don't buy their games, as a rule, because they find the combat so impressive.
- Return to Ostagar was their first no-story DLC: there was only a few floating lines, and it was a really a "gather all pieces of Cailan's armor" quest.
- Leliana's DLC was a pain in the butt for those who couldn't stand that woman;
- Darkspawn Chronicles had no story whatsoever;
- Harvester/Angarrak DLC? Dungeon Crawl in all its glory.
I won't focus on Tallis DLC, but I'll say that I was disappointed in how little story, compared to the actual story quests, there was in Jaws of Hakkon.
I love story DLCs, but I wouldn't mind actual story.
They already have their minds made up to be miserable and hate it, so I don't think we're going to change any minds.
Since combat has been the absolute worst part of Dragon Age, period, for me, I think I'll go back to being meh on this one.

Hating on DA:I is much better than praising literally every idea that goes gold.

uhhhhh no.

Return to Ostagar was sort of an epilogue to the Battle of Ostagar.
Leliana's Song was very much story DLC, it was about Marjolaine's betrayal of Leliana. You may not like her, which is entirely fair. But it's still a tory DLC
I haven't played Darkspawn CHronicles, ut I understand it's something of an AU story.
GOlems...yeah that story was pretty thin.

Return to Ostagar - Gave you interesting insight that Cailan was planning on leaving Anora.
Leliana's DLC - If you don't like her too bad, but it gave you insight into her life before the chantry. Great character growth, and notice everyone quoting "the stone lives beneath Orlais" ? Yeah, that bit of knowledge came in this DLC.
Darkspawn chronicles was just a fun look at what could of been if your Warden didn't survive the joining.
Golems DLC - Fun dungeon crawl mostly, goes to show you that there is some crazy stuff out in the deep roads.
Unless you want MASSIVE huge story changing ramifications in DLC like Legacy for example, there is usually a few things to take from every DLC that is released.
uhhhhh no.
Uh, yeah. The fact is, this is a dungeon crawl in the most boring part of Thedas with absolutely no information given whatsoever on what's actually happening isn't praiseworthy at all, but you wouldn't be able to tell from this thread. Saw the same thing with JoC. where the Hinterlands 2.0 happened. I don't expect much better from this one. You can dress is it up with charged things like, "Moar dwarfs," and you can say, "Another dragon," but those 30 second cutscenes won't make up for hours on hours on days of grinding through legions of boring combat because we are in combat more than anything else, and like I said, it's the weakest part of DA:I by far. This could very well be the dlc to make me want to actually play DA:I again, but I highly doubt it from what's been seen so far, more darkspawn grinding and Blight hand-waving. Scrutiny is fine, within reason. Nothing unreasonable here.
Dragon Age Origins, in retrospect, had some pretty underwhelming DLC. BioWare didn't really hit their stride until DA2 and ME2 when it comes to SP DLC.
Awakening not your thing?

I rather liked Soldier's Peak.
Well, except for the guy who sneaks into your camp to ask for your credit card number ![]()
Might have been pointed out before, but did anyone else see the Inquisitor and, what I presume is, a darkspawn emissary just kind of hanging around, not attacking? ![]()
Could be a sign of intelligent and/or sentient darkspawn.

See, this is what we're talking about. You're making a lot of assumptions of what this DLC will be like based on a brief trailer and buzzwords. There's nothing wrong with being excited to revisit the dwarves and the Deeproads because the fact that we're revisiting the dwarves and the Deeproads is pretty much all we know at this point. Obviously it could turn out to be disappointing, but there's nothing wrong with being hopeful at the prospect.
On the other hand, you're negative evaluation of the DLC seems to be based on shaky"facts" you've extracted from the tiny amount of information we have.

I think they were too open about it, I would think another sentient darkspawn or magister down there would be a pretty big deal. I assume it's the run of a mill Darkspawn emissary.
I'm assuming I'll enjoy The Descent because I love a good dungeon crawl. Something like Durlag's Tower or Watcher's Keep from BG2 would be delightful, IMHO, especially since it contains MOAR DWARF and therefore probably MOAR DWARF LORE. The lack of MOAR DWARF was hitherto one of my few serious problems with DAI.
Of course, I liked Golems of Amgarrak more than Return to Ostagar or Witch Hunt. It delivered exactly what BioWare promised: a tough combat challenge involving a gross monster. (Also: MOAR DWARF. I was genuinely happy when I saw that Jerrik Dace had written Varric a letter in DAI; nice to know he's doing OK.)
Could it still suck? Sure. But at this point BioWare have put out three games and around a dozen pieces of story-based DLC, and I've had fun most of them. Chances are I'll enjoy this, too.

And those are unintersting. They always have been. It's a bunch of people who drink dirt filled ******. The whole premise is it being a dungeon crawl, so I'm going to make a safe assumption that it actually is a dungeon crawl. And that's boring.

And I never said there was, so...

Nope. I hate the combat and hate just about anything related to the Deep Roads. Always have. Logically, I won't like this dlc. I'm tired of fighting darkspawn, ironically we've fought more as the Inquisitor and Hawke than the Warden at this point. Don't really need much more to tell I'll probably hate this dlc, which is why I said I'd, as in me, give it a pass. And no, praise isn't inherently better than criticism, when based on the exact same information. Hate allows better criticizing by other fans, even if they potentially enjoy the dlc, and valid criticism is always better.
So was Legacy.
Just saying
Indeed it was
dungeon crawls are not a guarantee of a bad time.
I really enjoy (acknowledging the occasional flaw) the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age series.
For that reason I also enjoy its story DLC, which ranges from kind of ok to terrific.
I've put hundreds of hours into DAI, and actually haven't touched it for a couple of months (because Witcher 3, replaying Fallout 3/NV etc)
So for c.£12 GB pounds I have the pleasure of taking my high level party, in swank gear (all beautifully tinted) back out of Skyhold where they have been slumming it for a while, adventuring again, and exploring new stuff.

ok, I could be sour about the whole thing, because a trailer is not entirely as I would wish (sounds like entitlement to me) but what would be the point of that? The DLC isn't even launched yet. If I had concerns, I'd wait for a review, but I really don't so I'll be downloading it on Tuesday.
Even if it is not BioWare's equivalent of Hamlet, I suspect I'm going to have a good time.
Might have been pointed out before, but did anyone else see the Inquisitor and, what I presume is, a darkspawn emissary just kind of hanging around, not attacking?
Could be a sign of intelligent and/or sentient darkspawn.
I pointed out in the first couple of pages and then I watched it in slow mo and it looks like as it fades to black the inquistitor starts getting into a combative stance
In my opinion, the only good thing about the trailer is the music. It reminds me of Fable.
Awakening not your thing?
Awakening was not a DLC, it was an expansion.
And to be honest, it was one of the worst and most underwhelming games BioWare has ever created.
In my opinion it was worse than DA2.
And what is it, that people have against dungeon crawls? Deep Roads (Dead Trenches to be exact) were by far the best part of DA:O (excluding maybe certain Origin stories and finale). The atmosphere building they did was worthy of a good horror game, and confronting the Broodmother finaly gave you an idea what sort of nightmare are you up against. Before Deep Roads, Darkspawn (when you play the game for the first time) actually feel like some sort of discount LOTR orcs.
I've played that game multiple times, and I still get chills down my spine when I hear "First day they come, and catch everyone" echoing through that cave.
And those are unintersting. They always have been. It's a bunch of people who drink dirt filled ******. The whole premise is it being a dungeon crawl, so I'm going to make a safe assumption that it actually is a dungeon crawl. And that's boring.
Yes it will be a dungeon, yes it will be in the Deep Roads. Leaping from that to "its just a bland dungeon crawl with little to no story or cutscenes" is, well, a far leap. It could be true, but just because Bioware chose to skimp on story details in the trailer doesn't mean a whole lot (Especially given their notoriously awful marketing history)

Hawke fought a good number, but as yet I don't think the Inquisitor has fought more than a handful of darkspawn. This DLC will be chock full of them, but I doubt it'll make up the difference. Anyway:
When did I say praise was better that criticism? I said that hope and excitement based on known information is better than negativity based on broad assumptions about the combat-story ratio. If you don't like darkspawn, the Deep Roads or the combat, that's fine and I understand (I like the combat, but the Deep Roads was one of the most dreaded sections of Origins for me), so you may hate it for going to your least favorite part of the setting, but you're still basing your criticism of the DLC on information we don't have yet.
