Commenting on the area and occasionally the story isn't banter. They don't talk to you or each other. I enjoyed those comments a lot, don't get me wrong, but saying it's banter is a bit of an overstatement.

Doesn't Jaws have new (random party) banter as well?

I know Sera has nonsense about the Veil being wobbly there, and unlike the vanilla game, another companion will make a remark about it (to which she has a canned response). But I haven't spent much time there to know how much banter there is (I know it runs much faster in the new area than the normal game, though).

Actually that is banter, it just isn't party banter which I agree we could use more of in the DLCs

Well, banter actually needs multiple people; it's an exchange. So comments aren't banter. But yeah, they need more, whatever you want to call it. Hope they do it better in Descent.

If multiple people do talk together, it's very rare. The only one I remember is Dorian asking you if you're afraid of heights.

[quote name="Nefla" post="19520456" timestamp="1438887274"]I think those who have been disappointed by BioWare's more recent games are the ones who are nervous about this DLC and the ones who have not been disappointed are the ones who are excited. It makes sense, nothing has changed so the people who liked the game will likely like the DLC and the people who didn't like the game will most likely not like the DLC or will be disappointed if they get their hopes up that it will be an improvement on the base game like Legacy was for DA2.

Do you do that? Because I never have. If my misgivings end up being unfounded and whichever thing I was negative about ends up being great to me then I'm the first one to say I was wrong and sing its' praises from the rooftops as well as recommending it to others who got the same bad impression that I did.

You know, I always think combat matters to me very little since I've always muscled my way through crappy combat/combat that I don't like if the story and characters are good (ME1, DA:O and 2, etc...) but combat and gameplay mechanics are more important to me than I realized. I think about how much I love Skyrim and it's not because it has a good story (though the faction storylines are good) the main plot is very weak. However I played that game for over 1,000 hours just because I loved the combat, crafting, stealth and other thief skills, the variety of ways to make your character, the non-combat potions and spells, etc...it all made the game interesting and fun for me and made me look forward to exploration. If this exact trailer had been for Skyrim I would have been excited and bought it sight unseen but I absolutely HATE the combat, crafting, armor, etc...of DA:I so if that's all there is to the DLC then it's an automatic no for me. A great story/character interaction would change my answer and make me muscle through but the trailer is not promising in that regard. It would be cool if that's not the case but we'll see.[/quot

This.

DAI is an abortion, combat and movement wise, compared to all ME's, all previous DA's, Skyrim, and many others.

The DLC is exciting, but still, a silk hat on a pig.

They go back and forth depending on who is in the party. That's banter.

DevSin:

Just because it was programmed in Austin doesn't mean it was made in a vacuum. The DLC team had access to every member of the core DA team. I image Skype was their friend. Story at least would have been passed to Patrick Weekes for input and approval. The core team might have not done the grunt work, but to act as if Austin did this entirely independent of Edmonton isn't accurate.

Combat wise it's more different the bad. It's a similar system to diablio. Being a bit different from dao does not equal bad.

There's a difference between approval and creation.

Mike gave input and approval on the anime; that doesn't mean BioWare (which I use to indicate the Edmonton studio responsible for the game and all its DLC to date) made it or that I'd recommend it.

I'm not indicating anything other than that the content was made by an external team, which it was. So the statement that the DA team never made anything a particular way doesn't actually apply (since they didn't make it).

I hope the dlc add new things to the Inquisitor and not only new areas and weapons.

You must not be on PC.

Optimized for consoles, the PC port is an afterthought, with resultant curser/movement/combat clusterfu@k.

It's hard to play this game for awhile, then go play one of the others I mentioned. I have to learn how to move again.

I guess you got a lot more triggers than me, which is odd, considering I did every single little thing in it.

Well, it looks like we'll get another new Anchor ability, if that's what you mean.

I don't do that, no. But I rarely judge a book by it's cover and I try to stay at least open-minded even about things I'm not excited for.

The problem I think people have though, is what you said to begin with. If you've never been reasonably disappointed by Bioware or their game offerings you'll likely enjoy the DLC they release. If you have had issues with Bioware in the past and dislike the games they make, you likely won't enjoy the game. But then I wonder if people have been burned enough that they can't find anything positive to say about anything, why do they continue to a) buy Bioware product and B) come to their forums?

If Bioware hasn't made a game you like since 2009, it's probably time for you to move on and leave the rest of us to have fun in peace. Bioware doesn't read these forums (much) anyway, so the only thing they are doing is making the rest of us miserable right along with them.

I'm not sure what positives you want people to glean from the trailer. The map is pretty...um yay!  :? Obviously even the negative Nancys have some small hope that this DLC will be good or are in a loop of denial that "maybe the next thing will be like ___ previous game/DLC" or even "if I don't get my hopes up I can't be disappointed" otherwise they wouldn't be here. But I guess anyone who doesn't love the game is unwelcome here and should go away...

I used to post positive and negative feedback in hopes that BioWare's games would go back to how they were when I was a huge fan but I've now given up hope of that ever happening and I hardly come here anymore. I'm mildly hoping this DLC will be good enough to entertain me until my vacation in September but I don't care very much either way.

Focus abilities should never have required one of the 8 slots.

I'm assuming I'll enjoy The Descent because I love a good dungeon crawl. Something like Durlag's Tower or Watcher's Keep from BG2 would be delightful, IMHO, especially since it contains MOAR DWARF and therefore probably MOAR DWARF LORE. The lack of MOAR DWARF was hitherto one of my few serious problems with DAI.

.

That's what I'm hoping for, chuck in Endless paths of Cad Nua as well, which also had some cool story moments and decisions to make as we got deeper. Some challenging puzzles, some Aw hell type moments. Some foreboding atmosphere. Find out more about those Kal Sharock dwarves, that'll do me.

Well DAI isn't exactly my favourite game of all time either,  I'm absolutely not blind to its faults and in the Witcher 3 Vs DAI debate is W3 all day every day but I'm really looking forward to this one.

Maybe I'm setting it against things that it can't live up to such as Durlags tower, Watchers Keep etc, but anyway, find out in a few days time.

^Same. I reckon the game has flaws but I'm looking forward to playing that one since I enjoyed DAO and DA2 deeproads sections. Plus I 'm always on board for moar lore

I'm talking about the pc versions. The only thing that waas really off on the pc version was the camera. Other then that the only thing control wise that was off sums up to be "not like dao or da2."

I'm definitely not counting it out, but the trailer didn't show anything to hook me. We'll know for sure when the game comes out and hopefully some people will be doing livestream let's plays so I can decide if it's for me or not.

I'm guessing we will be able to exit the DLC to Skyhold at any time? Or is there a chance that we may find a small HUB in this dungeon crawl?

I haven't seen a tweet or anything on it, sorry.

Yeah, if they didn't, I might actually use them. As it is, they're just too situational to waste a slot on.

Well, there was one tweet talking about coming back later if you're out-leveled. So it seems like a safe bet you're not locked in there. I just hope traveling back and forth isn't too much of a hassle, because if it's all one big area with no fast-travel locations, it'll get really tedious to keep walking/fighting until you get back to the lowest part of the dungeon just to make any more progress.

I can see why people think this could be a dungeon crawl and I'd probably agree. Although, it's not fair to judge from a one minute trailer

I'll think I'll wait and see how the reviews go. I still haven't played JoH.

I find it weird that people bash this DLC for a focus on content, but they fawned all over Lair of the Shadow Broker for the same reason. Lord knows that didn't have any dialogue, the non-Liara party member never even spoke after Liara joined the party.

It was story heavy though (Though its too soon to assume this one won't be)

Yes, there is a very small amount of new banter, but old banter is also recycled in JoH as well. Sera mentions the veil feeling "girlish" there and others joke with her about it.

Thanks for the info Banshee!

I'm hoping so too. Surely we will have camp locations or something at the very least. I'm not seeing any info on level caps either-I will be headed in first postgame lvl 27. I wonder if they played with the Nightmare scaling on this one like Hakkon? Being 2-shot and dead by archers was something to get used too lol

Well, the devs themselves are describing it as a dungeon-crawl, so it doesn't seem far-fetched to assume that's mainly what it is.

You're welcome! Yes, a few small camps you could return to would help a lot. And besides, without them, you'd run out of potions pretty fast, I think. Hopefully if you enter at level 27 there is still scaling. After all, there were some level 30 enemies in JoH.
