Looks wicked. Barefoot like the Dalish too. Not looking forward to how speedy they were, heh, but glad they are back.
Good to see our old friend the shriek again. I'm assuming that the animation will be similar if not identical to the Templar shadow. Damn shadows.

Yes, I love those guys. Winding up for a Resurgence...oh, WAIT...Inquisitor is laying there in a pool of their own blood. Good times...stupid freaking dust sniffing helm stomping...jerks! ![]()
Never mind, I HATE those guys...and I remember they tended to vanish from sight too. Oh goodie...
They shouldn't have changed the design of Darkspawn. I reckon they changed it because they looked like LoTR orcs but Hurlocks in this game look like Uruk-hai, Alpha's look like a reskinned venatori Brute and Genlocks look like apes.
Personally I'm not a fan of the original look. As much as I like having design consistency, I was sort of glad to get away from that. The same with the dragon designs, which now look more animalistic and move better. Anyway, the only reason the Alphas are reminiscent of the brutes is because of the animation, since other humanoid enemies that use the same weapon type operate the same way, like those maul-wielding Avvar. The darkspawn in Origins are no different. They all fought the same way as basic humanoid enemies. They just made grunting noises.

I'm glad that Dorian will be assisting my archer on this adventure. Static cage for everyone.

Well the Templar shadow was based on the Shrieks ![]()
Well the Templar shadow was based on the Shrieks
Yeah, but they certainly weren't animated that way, though the shrieks were kind of freaky with their quadrupedal running.

The animation will be different, they'll probably still leap at you ![]()
I don't like the look of the Darkspawn. And why is the Inquisition investigating the tremors in the Deep roads? That job should be for the wardens and the HOF....
I can't help but notice you're frequently negative.

The Inquisition solves problems, be it Warden or Dark Spawn related. Coryphepants is Dark Spawn baddy #1. Plus, there's a lot of other missions involving Darkspawn. Considering the Wardens are compromised, it only makes sense that the Inquistion either a) save the Wardens and use them in the fight against Darkspawn threats or b ) boot the Wardens and use other forces to mitigate Dark Spawn threats. Either way, it's a consistent game villian or foe, found in many other places other than this DLC.
Yes, visually exciting scenes attract the eye. This is how visual based media works. You don't tend to put long sequences of conversation in a trailer.
Again, action is not the only way to attract the eye. And considering how many "AAA" games desperately try to out-flashy-bang-boom each at the expense of everything else, wouldn't a trailer that focuses on a different emotion, a different atmosphere stand out more? I also never said anything about long conversations, only a few words from familiar voices.
And a good portion of the trailer wasn't action, but environmental. The camera passes showing the expanse of the dungeon? Bioware seems to be finding its footing with this engine.
I'm glad it worked for you, but it did nothing for me because the one or two brief scenery shots that vaguely interested me were buried under the "generic brainless dungeon crawl" impression. A brief bit of scenery does not equal "interesting premise", much less "story" or "personal involvement in the story and with my friends".
I'm not a fan of combat. I find it something to be endured, not enjoyed. However, I am well aware I'm in the minority, but I don't see combat being DAI's biggest problem.
I'm pretty much on the "endure" team too when it comes to combat in most RPGs, especially Inquisition, but I agree that as bad as I found its combat, it is far from the biggest issue.
But we don't know anything about how story/action heavy the DLC will be yet. For all we know they decided to show fighting and pretty scenery in order to grab peoples attention without spoiling anything. I wouldn't judge it on a trailer alone.
Thing is, 1) a trailer or other advertising is pretty damn worthless in my book if it doesn't reflect the actual product, and 2) without a sign that what I consider to be the same old annoying patterns are going to be addressed instead of perpetuated, I'm not going to hold my breath or hope that they will be. It's not just the trailer alone.
And if they're going to do a really story heavy DLC (and I hope they will), it would make sense to save it for last. It would end DAI on a high note and make people more excited for the next game.
Why could they only have one (if that) story DLC? I can only speak for myself, of course, but a single story DLC isn't enough to end it on a "high note" or preserve, much less generate, enthusiasm for the series if everything else was handled in such an unsatisfying manner. Especially if the one pet character/premise that is deemed to merit any real attention isn't even something I care much about.

I'm just saying that all we really know from the trailer is that it's going to take place in the deep roads.

Because they need to take their time on a story DLC. Honestly, I'm not even sure if a story DLC is the way to go - especially if they're going to explain Solas. They would need an expansion for something like that.

I think the "fans" should just let the devs do their jobs and decide whether or not to expand further into the plot in DLCs or save it for DA4.

I certainly wouldn't stand behind them with a whip to rush story DLC.
And I agree that a proper expansion would be by far the superior way to go for just about any character or story "hook". Sadly they said they would not do that anymore.
A third Magister. Awesome or repetitive?
I'm going to say awesome. The Ancient Magisters are some of the my favorite concepts from the franchise.

Think about it -
We didn't know Architect was an ancient magister for years after we fought him
They hid Cory from us in Legacy and DA:I (promo materials)
Do you see them just showing us an ancient magister right in the open like that, furthmore to your point, I can't see them having a side DLC on another ancient magister while we're still dealing with one potentially in DA:I

I'm undecided on whether or not showing another magister is a good thing.
Of course, if my theory about the emissaries being retconned into a separate breed of darkspawn (Spawned from a Darkspawn magister broodmother) is true, then this could be one of their Alphas.

That sounds horrific, and awesome. Do we know anything about the other magisters that went with Corypheus to the Golden City?

We know there were seven in total and they were the High Priests of the Old Gods. We don't know their genders except for Corypheus and the Architect. We also know their titles, but the wiki apparently hasn't been updated with the full Canticle of Silence yet and I can't remember off the top of my head.
Female magister turned into a giant broodmother that keeps spitting out monsters?
Yes please
Razikale's high priestess is depicted as female on a carving in the Western Approach. So it's possible that there was a female ancient Magister who invades the Golden City along with the others and was corrupted. She may have become the first broodmother.
If there is a broodmother in this DLC, hopefully it is similar to a high dragon fight where you can attack different parts of the body first to weaken it.

She wasn't. The Architect found her and put her through his version of the Joining. Thus causing her to regain sentience and go mad from not being able to hear the song of the old gods anymore.
