really don't get the fascination with SW. Don't get me wrong, the setting's nice, but the actual canon material (movies and TV shows), is basically kids stuff.
"Mass Effect is the Star Wars of our generation!" Huh?

Half of Star Wars material and canon summed up:
- There is peace with the Jedi and the Republic.
- And war begins against an evil nation.
- The Sith are behind it.
- Sith destroy the Jedi and the Republic, create an evil empire that oppresses everyone.
- Jedi go into hiding. Freedom fighters fight the evil empire.
- Freedom fighters defeat the evil Sith
- A new Republic is formed, Jedi are back.
- Repeat.
Star Wars KOTOR, TOR, Legacy, both trilogies... There is more to it and to the stories, but basically the above repeats itself over and over again.

Ha, Mass Effect wishes it was as good as Star Wars.
Star Wars wishes Star Wars was as good as fanboys think Star Wars is.
Half of the movies outright suck and Return of the Jedi is borderline crap, only saved by the siege on Jabba's palace and the fight between Vader and Luke. The Ewok's are 13x goofier than the Gungans.
1: Star Wars
2: Mass Effect
3: Firefly
4: Halo
5: Stargate
6: Star Trek
This list is dildos. Stargate is better than Trek? Get real. Rewatch Stargate. It's a terrible movie.

I don't think anyone talking about Stargate EVER refers to the movie. In fact, I'm not entirely convinced most Stargate fans know there is a movie called Stargate.

SG-1 is only marginally better than the movie and the subsequent series were awful. Stargate is a terrible franchise built on a good idea. Like Highlander. But at least Highlander had 1 good movie.

If you're ranking it second, it can't be all that bad!
I honestly wonder how Star Wars is gonna look to everyone four years from now, when Disney has drowned us in more films than have been released in the past 35 years.
I can't say I'm happy about it, but then I think that Bioware and Obsidian have done more justice to Star Wars than even its esteemed creator.
Talk about pessimism.

Do not be racist to aliens, value life, and accept self-aware machines. Star Wars is that and way much more. And there is way more to Star Wars than just the episodes. The episodes is not even the best of Star Wars. Some people would point out the Old Republic era, and the New Republic era; I would say the best is the New Jedi Order era sense it is probably the darkest era in Star Wars.
As for Firefly... well there are to many reasons why that is in my top three. I do not feel like typing them down.

The video in my link describes Mass Effect has "talkie and techie" type sci-fi which would lend credence to the fact that it has more in common with Star Trek than Star Wars. But I'm seeing some great points in this thread that counter that.
I'd almost say gameplay = Star Trek, Plot = Star Wars but even that's not completely true because of the damn Reapers. You spend most of your time in Mass Effect just talking with people and discussing space stuff which falls in line with Star Trek. But then there's Biotics and Paragon/Renegade system. When I think of aliens in Mass Effect I Think more in line with Star Trek too. Star Wars isn't exactly focused on cross-species romance. You know, green women and all that.

And now you can't unsay it, because I have recorded it for posterity.
But I agree with you, apart from my slavish and unsurprising opinion that Empire is the best film of all of them.

Damn, I can't even edit it anymore.
But no doubt, Empire has some great moments. I still love them all (even RotJ). It's more that the games condense the aspects I love the most.

So one thing that always peeved me: the whole Han shot first debacle. Shouldn't the whole escapade be renamed "Han shot" or "Only Han shot". First makes it sound like Greedo also fired, which never happened.

Pretty much. Greedo doesn't get a chance to.
Han Shot First has a much better ring to it though. ![]()

Greedo never fired in the original, because Han is a boss. So what? He killed him before Greedo had a chance to fire.So one thing that always peeved me: the whole Han shot first debacle. The "Han Shot First" comes from the 1997 remake, in which Greedo DOES fire, a split second before Han does, which pissed off nerds everywhere.

You think Star Wars has more depth and more to say than Star Trek? Seriously?
Star Wars is just popcorn entertainment. Star Trek is social commentary. It took on racial equality, putting it right in white America's face during the Civil Rights movement. It took on gender equality during a time when women were still seen as property.
Star Wars is big dumb fun. It has no depth or societal value beyond that.

The Asari seemed to be one part Twi'lek and one part Delvian.
With prayer and deep meditation followers of the Delvian Seek gained a number of psychic abilities which were able to be unlocked by a disciplined mind, aided by the Goddess. One such ability was the sharing of "Unity", the ability for a Delvian to link their mind to that of an other creature allowing for them to communicate on a psychic and spiritual plane.

Don't forget about the Syreen from Star Control back in the early 90s. They also had some kind of mind control abilities (obviously, the whole race is airlifted out of the Sirens of Greek mythology). In general, ME owes a pretty big debt to both Star Control and Starflight.

Also, just for fun:
