So after the whole conversation about Anders bathing them in blood to keep Hawke safe, I chose "Maybe you're right" when he said they shouldn't get involved. (it was the broken heart icon)
I'm still on the fence about it though, in terms of who she should romance, if anyone... I'm just curious is it still possible to start the romance later on in the game if that choice was made?

After Ander's companion quest during Act II, if you choose the right options, you're given the option to flirt with him again. But he'll only reciprocate platonically.
I'm still on the fence if I want my Hawke to pursue him or not. :x Damn magicker. If it can still be pursued, I imagine it'll be during the third act, so I'll just update this again then.
I think choosing the broken heart icon at any time ends your romance for good. In the conversation after the companion quest he should have said he'll come to your house, because that's the convo that officially triggers the romance. If you have the PC version you can change romance flags so you could try going back to before the last convo and setting the flag to active and see if it works. By the way if you were planning on trying to romance Fenris too make sure you do it before flirting with anyone else in their first Act 2 questioning beliefs convo or else it won't trigger, though I've heard you can also avoid the bug by leaving his QB/A Bitter Pill quest until after you've slept with and broken up with anyone else (but avoid Isabela who is also buggy). Flirting with others after sleeping with him is fine as long you turn them down when they show up at your house. If you sleep with Anders or Merril without rejecting them immediately afterwards it cuts off all other romances. You can just save before their second questioning beliefs convo if you're not ready to reject them yet.
