I have to give Blizzard, credit, they know how to announce new things, and I am very much looking forward to playing this when it releases. Information actually relevant to the expansion I will put in bold lettering, so it's easier to see at a glance.
The announced content thus far includes, but is not necessarily limited to:
-level cap raised to 110
-New continent, the Broken Isles, to level from 100 to 110
-2 new raids to begin when you reach the level cap
-6 dungeons, but not much mention on if any of these dungeons are for levelling up or if any are tuned for level 110
-Artifact weapons, of which there are 36 (one for each specialization) with their own questlines and customization options
-Class Holds, which function like private club houses accessible only to members of your class
-A new hero class, the Demon Hunter (WHICH CAN DOUBLE JUMP), which has it's own starting experience and starts at a high level.
-New updated HD textures and models for some player forms (PHOTOREALISTIC CAT DRUIDS), and presumably monsters
-A complete revamp of the Honor system. PvP now has its own talent trees unique to each class (NO MORE NERFING ABILITIES IN PVE TO BALANCE PVP, BLIZZARD); players can now rank up from 1 to 50 and prestige for cosmetic rewards (artifact weapon skins and titles, among other things)
As always since this is the first day of the announcement, some of these items may be changed, or even removed entirely (I very much doubt that these will be removed because they are the core selling points, but I digress). As well, there may be more information to be released at a later date as we come nearer to the expansion launch and the beta period begins.
I'm one of the 8 people in the world who likes Warlords of Draenor, but my biggest gripe thus far was that Blizzard didn't seem to really take feedback from beta players into account before its launch. I very much hope that they will listen this time around. Also, Blizzard, for the love of God, please try and hammer out the game breaking bugs before launch. It was really annoying trying to level a Horde character through Warlords for the first week and getting stuck on one of the early quests in the very first zone because the next part of the quest wouldn't trigger.
Only Night Elves and Blood Elves can become Demon Hunters, as the player-made Demon Hunters were once members of the Illidari, who were personally trained by Illidan and consisted of elves. Demon Hunters will have 2 specializations, Havoc and Vengeance. Havoc is a melee DPS spec whereas Vengeance is a tank spec. Both specs will allow the Demon Hunter to use the trademark Metamorphosis ability, though it appears that Vengeance will have a greater emphasis on Metamorphosis than Havoc. Demon Hunters will wear leather armor and use a new weapon classification, glaives. Glaives are dual-wielded. Unconfirmed, but it seems that Demon Hunters are the only class that will use glaives.
Edit for new information: there will be no weapon drops in Legion. Players will acquire their Artifact weapon and use it throughout the entire thing, with raid bosses and PvP both offering relics which players will use to imbue their Artifact weapons with talents and upgrades, ranging from simple stat buffs to new proc effects.
The beta will begin sometime later this year; no official date as been given as of yet. Be sure to opt-in for the beta at Battle.net.
Artifact weapon list:
Maw of the Damned - For eons, the demon known as Gorelix the Fleshripper used this massive axe to steal the life force from his enemies and replenish his own. The Maw will blled dry anything it touches -- eating is all it knows. Blood Death Knight weapon.
Ice Bringer and Soul Reaper - Forged from remains of Frostmourne. These are more traditional and based around Death Knight fantasy--skulls, frost, more skulls, different skulls. Frost Death Knight weapons.
Fangs of the First Nightsaber - Changes the look of your animal forms as a druid. Feral Druid weapon.
The Eagle Spear - Highmountain Tauren lore background--you defeat the beast that defeated the weapon's last owner. Other variations inspired by wolf, serpent, bear. Survival Hunters are now melee with a pet, so this explains the spear. Survival Hunter weapon.
Thas'dorah, Legacy of the Windrunners - Legend has it that his elven family heirloom, once wielded by an infamous Ranger-General--can turn a mediocre archer into a master marksman, and make a master truly peerless. Marksmanship Hunter Weapon.
Ebonchill, Greatstaff of Alodi - The staff of the first Guardian of Tirisfal exudes unnatural iciness, allowing its wielder to keep a cold, sharp, and collected mind even in face of overwhelming odds. Frost Mage weapon.
Felo'melorn - Weapon Kael'thas used to fight Arthas in Icecrown Citadel. It's been lost, until now. Fire Mage Weapon. Unknown as of yet if there will be an associated off-hand item or if they will continue to drop as normal.
Sheilun, Staff of the Mists - This legendary staff was used by the last emperor of Pandaria to shroud his homeland in mist, and it resonates with his everlasting legacy of wisdom and perseverance. Other variations inspired by animal gods of Pandaria and the Sha. Mistweaver Monk weapon.
Ashbringer - It is said that this sword, forged by Magni Bronzebeard, bestows the glory of the Light upon its wielder, empowering them to render enemies into ash. Variants are Fiery, Shadow, and Lightning. Did something happen to Tirion Fordring? No teasers for now! Retribution Paladin weapon.
Doomhammer - Thrall's Weapon, he's lost hope.. Variants are Fel Version, Mag'hari, Magical Crystal. A duplicate made of pure energy will appear in your off-hand to allow for dual-wielding. Enhancement Shaman weapon.
Aluneth - Unknown, speculated to be a Priest staff.
Fang - Unknown, speculated to be Rogue daggers.
Icebreaker - Unknown, speculated to be Warrior sword & shield.
Soulrend - Unknown, speculated to be an Unholy Death Knight's 2-handed sword.
All Artifacts can be transmogrified into any other weapon, but other weapons cannot be transmogrified into Artifacts.
