There's no "General Discussion" subforum so I'll just put these here.

Uninstalled Mass Effect 3 several months back---still the most memorable RPG I've played, hands down---and this week I noticed I had two recorded multiplayer videos of me (playing as a Soldier) and several random people. Just thought I'd put these up here.

Firebase Dagger (with sandstorm environmental hazard; Retaliation DLC)

Firebase Giant (night time environmental hazard; Retaliation DLC)

Happy gaming!

Somewhat off topic but I wanted to throw this out there for some that make these vids. Did it feel IDK....."uncomfortable" putting the first one out there? I mean you're kind of opening yourself up to criticism, negativity, etc. Was it weird making that first video for youtube or whatever?

Edit: I'd almost rather do the vids now because most of the community sort of knows each other and there aren't nearly as many weirdos now. That said how to vids are kind of irrelevant in this game's lifecycle.

That's true not only for making videos, but even for posting a simple sentance on a web forum.

There's no reward without risk.  If you wanna do something, don't be afraid to do it.  Otherwise you'll spend the rest of your life looking back and regretting that you didn't do it.

Ya know im actually looking foward to you making andromeda vids. I mean that is why you created that capture card thread right? To start a youtube channel?

Edit* And to answer your question yes. It did feel somewhat uncomfortable putting my first few videos on youtube. TBH I was a bit nervous because I knew how shrewd people on the internet can be but I dived in anyways because I knew I had good things to share. You will face lots of haters and critics. Lol even strange people sending you hateful messages just because they didn't like something you said or the way you played (there are people like that). People will troll your videos just because BUT for the most part you'll have more positive feedback from your subs than hate especially if you build your channel with this community as it's foundation. The only haters you'll most likely run into are random non BSNrs that don't know you but if you provide good quality content then you will gain the support (subscribers) from many non BSNrs too.

Not really tbh. The first solos I uploaded were often "firsts" (like first recorded plat solo with the vorcha engineer, or first solo with this character on consoles, etc.) so, even if the gameplay was crap suboptimal, a first is a first and hard to criticize too much. Plus, you say that you open yourself to negativity ; it's true, but you also open yourself to... positivity lol. I think that most people who watch solos on YT aren't soloers themselves, so they appreciate to see some gameplay from more experienced / skilled / patient players than they are themselves, especially if you show your build and explain your choices and your strategy.

Besides, it's just a damn video game, being criticized about that would certainly not kill my sleep...

If you're going to upload a gameplay video and post about it here, make sure it is exceptional in a way:

- extremely entertaining

- a speedrun record of some sort

- you're 100% sure a lot of people will like it for whatever reason

- you think it's extremely informative

- your first solo or something

etc.

Throwing a perfectly ordinary gameplay video without any point to it (you're asking for advice or whatever) will end with the thread getting trolled to hell and back and/or locked at the first opportunity.

Yeah at first, personally, for me, I didn't know any better on how to do it. I figured, well, I learned something cool to beat platinum with a team, oh man Im excited, let me tell the world...then you come to the forum and drop it in and then it gets all torn up. LOL. Now that's NOT a bad thing though. You NEED people to tear your work down if only to make you become better together with the good. It can be done in a constructive manner but most of the time its not going to be done that way so prepare for that.

If you are really serious about it though, I just recently started doing videos speficically on Mass Effect after researching for close to 4 months on how to actually bring in new Mass Effect related content in a new way....and believe it's possible. So if you are going to go out there and get started, do so but definitely take out time to learn what is GOOD and worthy of being put out there. For example I look at some of my older videos and Im like...oh man...how the heck did anybody even subscribe to me???

Anyway, long story short, if you are interested in some direction. Real direction, just hit me up. I would tell you that it would benefit to understand AIDA (marketing term), and then everything that makes a video good. I am not perfect, good or even great. Believe me....I had to take a strong hard look at my older content before coming back (example of my new format in signature below) and really break myself down and criticize my own work and say...dang...it's time to learn and be better. So, I recommend, that before you post something out there, LEARN. I can give you some quick tips, everything else is up to you.

Feel free to message me off this post and I'll help however I can.

I didn't really at the time, I feel more "uncomfortable" when I look back at my old videos now and wonder why I ever thought they were worth posting.

I remember looking back at my low gravity mod video I made with Trofetrol back in 2012. I had to blur out every frame of my name. It was a huge pain in the ass. Interestingly it's my only video where the missile was still wind up.
