sorry im half asleep and not reading everything.
that really pee'd me off though. seems like anything that happens in the DLC is going to be irrelevant to the future of thedas anyways.
So will the Desent DLC actualy have story?

I felt like major things in JOH got completely swept under the rug and no one really commented on it at all.

I totally forgot about that. If the Avvar can do that, possession might not be the danger it is. Sure, there will be issues, but if they can extract a spirit or demon...not just Anders either. Huh...you think that was a throw away the writers forgot about, or they'll address it at a later date?

It's a story DLC. So yes?
But it wasn't written or developed by the DA team, so vary your expectations accordingly (I wouldn't be surprised if the two dwarves from the trailer handle all the exposition, with the rest of the party only there for combat).
Just to add a bit of information about the Austin writers as I'm a fan of the Old Republic. It was written by Hall Hood and Courtney Woods. Courtney is a relatively new writer on staff but Hall Hood has been with Austin since the beginning of that studio and is credited with writing the Jedi Knight storyline, arguably one of the better ones. As to the DLC itself, I think Austin will do a good job of it. Shadow Realms was meant to be a dungeon crawler with Bioware style storytelling so I imagine they applied a lot of what they learned from SR to Descent.

It's nothing new. Wynne passed her spirit to Evangeline. Still, I imagine it requires for both the host and the spirit to be willing to separate. Neither Anders nor Vengeance (a demon) were.
Connor's demon can be destroyed and him saved but I believe Irving said it was only possible because the demon wasn't in Connor, just controlling him from the Fade.

But, for instance, we never even meet the leader of the Jaws outside of his Revenant form and his entire backstory is told through codex entries.
That is weak writing.
You could have met him, had you spoken to him after the climbing competition when you first entered Stone Bear Hold. He's standing right there and you can interact with him. He hasn't got a lot to say, apart from a few insults. He says more to Thegn Sun-Hair, taunting her about her about the health of her hold beast. She replies that their hold beast is well, but Gurd must know she's lying, as he has the bear in captivity even then.
It's embarrassing how long it took me to figure out that they were the same man. I didn't pick up on it until my 4th playthrough (
).

I have no idea how, but somehow I didn't put those 2 things together!
Wow. I really hope they do something with this, and no more things get swept under the rug in The Descent.

Just nitpicking that Anders really did want to be separate, but didn't know how to be/was losing control.

Wouldn't be the first time. I mean there's that line about how Tranquility can't be cured, even as Karl goes into temporary remission because of Justice manifesting... Nah, it'll never get mentioned again.

I guess I'm one of the few who found the JOH story rather revealing despite the means it took to discover it. I'm hoping the secrets we're going to discover in the Deep Roads have a similar impact.
Similar impact? So like nothing at all? We have yet to see the DA universe react to JoH.

...Yeah, because JoH is the most recent thing to be out. There's been no chance. Any reference to what was learned in JoH wouldn't happen until DA4 at the earliest.

You can talk to Svarah about him, and you can talk to him yourself the first time you enter Stone-Bear Hold.
Don't say things don't exist when they do.

No. Your party will stumble onto a fissure in the Deep Roads and just decide to go exploring. You do nothing but fight darkspawn for 10+ hours. Nobody talks to each other or discovers anything interesting. In fact, you never come back up. You only.....descend.
This. It will be arena/tower think you just go deeper each level have stronger enemy's. Higher level more HP.

That's because most people are a bunch of whiny brats who don't appreciate anything about DAI and come on here to complain to get attention or jump on the bandwagon, while those that genuinely don't like it and give good reasons, or do like it, have their comments ignored and threads pushed to the bottom of the page thanks to spam by people who have nothing better to do than post pics of random stuff because they think it's cool.
I liked it and I honestly don't care if others didn't. I like everything about each DA game, I find many complaints petty and always see the bright and positive side of everything in each game and DLC. I expect to enjoy Descent as much as JOH and probably even more. I speak for myself not others.
I am not attacking you but I am simply getting of my chest how tired I am of the ridiculous stuff I read especially after competition games came out and people got accounts just to stir the pot. At age 30 I have seen this stuff since I was 17, and it's getting old and tiring and pathetic.

It'll probably have story in the same style Jaws of Hakkon had story. Which is to say most will be told through codex entries and a couple of cutscenes.
No, the story was told through a LOT of cut scenes and other dialogue, plus codex entries. Like the rest of the game. It was a nice little story as well.

He has such a striking "look" that he caught my attention first time in Stone-bear hold. The conversation was short and not really pleasant though =D

It was apparently mostly produced by the Bioware Austin Team actually, the team behind SWTOR. Apparently this was what Shadow Realms was canceled for.
Oh that's interesting then.
EA has a bad habit of cancelling interesting things. They killed a MMO that had a webcomic.

I'm hoping the DLC answer the question of whether the Architect is one of the original magisters that went into the fade. Also Bianca's revelation that lyrium is alive might have some interesting implications. Of course given how extensive the Deep Roads are and the lack of maintenance, it's amazing that most of Thedas isn't suffering frequent seismic activity with all the tunnel collapses.
It sounds like the DLC will be one that you will need to start and stop. If it gets harder the deeper you go you'll have problems if you start it early. That said my seeming inability not to do sidequests before main story means I'm pretty high level before I get to Adamant or Halamshiral. Jaws was made hard so that people like me who float through the end of the game way over leveled have something challenging to do after (and get an xp for it). Descent looks to be a compromise, you can start it at a lower level but going deeper gives higher level characters something to do.

I wonder how they're going to handle area exits. In JoH, Stone Bear Hold had merchants to buy your loot and it was easy enough to travel out of the area, do a few War Table missions, and pop back in, but if this is a continuous dungeon...
Will it have elevators? That might actually be doable, so I'm asking out of curiosity, not censure.

Good point! I wasn't sure if that was an elevator or if a bridge was being raised into position, but there's no reason the area would have to be sealed off.
I'm mostly thinking about Legacy, where you were unable to leave past a certain point (and unable to return to pick up stuff you left behind). I mean, yeah, it made sense for Legacy, but it did involve inventory management.
Just to be safe, I plan to make a "throwaway" save before I enter. That way, if it goes bits up, I can always stage a do-over.

It seems like it's designed for you to do it in multiple parts, at least if you start playing early, since later parts are higher levelled, so presumably it's designed to be interruptible.
