Dear Bioware,

I was playing Fereldan Castle in NM with friends this morning, and when we are just starting Zone 5 fighting dragon, somehow my game froze. I can't do anything in game, not even press "start" to call up pause menu. So I decided to try quit-rejoin to see if that solves the problem. Unfortunately someone else joined the lobby and hence I can't join back anymore. My 1 hour and 45 minutes of effort is just wasted because of a random bug, and someone else can just join at the last stage and basically roll for a hakkon weapon for 5, 10 minutes of effort.

Then me and my friends started a new match for NM FC after that one. When we nearly cleared Zone 4, my game crashed without warning, and guess what? I can't join back again because someone took my spot again!

So, I felt that's it after I wasted my whole morning's time and effort, without gaining a single xp or gold or anything. This is seriously off putting given how likely we might run into bugs during a 2-hour session.

Here is some of my querries:

1. Is there a way of searching for nearly finished matches? Because my spot getting taken in seconds twice in a row is so goddamn unlikely, given how rare people usually join in public NM matches. And if there is a way, I want to know how! Because I want to do exactly that! Only spend 10 minutes and skip the first 2 hours of the ******** grind!

2. Can we have some way to protect out interest in the face of all sorts of unexpected errors and glitches and bugs? Whichever way, wasting half a day's time like that is not going to make people happy. If those bugs aren't going to be fixed, can we have some sort of "error recovery" mechanism?

1. No there isn't.

2. If playing with a group of friends set lobby to private, about all you can do.

No and god help you if you try and recover that xp through illegitimate means. You'll be banished from ever playing this masterpiece of a game again.

Instead of quitting than joining, you can directly rejoin a friends match from your friends list (at least on PS4).  If you are pugging and have completed at least one match with the group, you can rejoin under "Recently Met" under friends list (Again on PS4).  This should greatly reduce someone bogarting your spot.  Similar features may exhist on PC and XBone.

Edit:  You should have at least gotten your gold/items, as those are instant.

If they're friends turn it to private as people have said. I understand why you don't if you're looking for a 4th, for some reason you're more likely to get a pug join a game in session than sitting in the lobby waiting.

Use the join friends option to get back to your game. On PC go to the Origin overlay, Friends and when you right click on a name it should give you a drop down menu with Join Game as an option.

Worst case scenario, have your friends kick the newcomer so you can get back in.

There is nothing I can do if the game just crashes :( I had to relaunch the game, sadly.

When the game froze, even origin in game doesn't work. So I can't even open up the friends list. The only thing I can do is to use Alt-F4 to force shut the program. :(

We didn't want to wait for ages for someone to join up :( And we can't change game setting half way through the match.

1h 45m NM game? That sounds painful. Were you all playing AW?

That's the problem. People don't want to kick others, otherwise it won't have been a issue. Some opt kick, some don't. So that won't ever work. Although I can understand from their prospective, that if you are about to finish a match, why would you still bother trying to kick someone for the sake of your unfortunate friend?

Sorry for being sarcastic. Still in the anger mood here :(

No... I was playing elementalist. My friend was playing Lego. Then an AW (friend) and another Lego joined...

The second time, I still played ele and my friend went for duelist. This time 2 AW joined. One of those AWs is a friend that somehow decide to leave and then come back again half way through the match...

I'm just getting used to the horde of AW obsessed people in PuGs and over extended match duration here.

Oh, by the way, the usual PuG NM run takes around 2hr 15 minutes. Never had an AW-free PuG run ever. Literally.

Yeah most people don't like to kick, others don't even know you can or how to do it. But if you've got 4-5 waves with somebody they're usually more likely to do it. If for no other reason than you want the strongest possible team for NM and better to take the proven player over the new one. You can also get on voice and tell the newcomer that your friend dropped and wants to come back. There's a chance that newcomer will drop on their own (assuming they have voice turned on and not an a**hole). My friend has done that for me before when I dropped.

Got to a point where now I just want to get the last 2 Hakkon weapons and then never play NM FC ever again... It's quite an emotional drain really. Particularly after having heard from more and more friends that they no longer want to play NM because they have all the hakkon weapons already.

Lucky you :) Well I'm not seriously expecting a newcomer to drop out in that situation in a PUG. In fact I know I would probably hesitate to leave myself knowing I can roll for a Hakkon weapon in like 10 minutes.

I already get antsy when my runs take 30 minutes. My best times where with 3-4 Archers (~15 minutes).

Since all the enemies are damage sponges, you need at least two good DPS to get a decent time (but ideally four).

NM is a lot easier on the old maps. It's also less time consuming.

I'm made you spent 1 hour 45 minutes getting to a dragon,.... as Kevin heart would say.... " I wasn't ready.... nooooo"  lol

while it is unfortunately complaining now after all these months is mute point we have all gone through this at some point ..... but yeah you got a point.

As you've probably noticed the disconnect in FC Zone 4 usually occurs right after leaving the font room and running up the stairs.

Snakebite and I have been purposely waiting about 10 seconds to cross the threshold where you start going up the stairs. Could just be our minds tricking us but that seems to cut down on the Zone 4 FC dashboard/host migration issue.

Interesting :) But personally my game has never crashed at the start of zone 4. It's usually the climax bit where you are facing the maximum number of demons or it's the bit where the heat dies down quite a bit but still few mobs being constantly spawned and everything seems under control.

I rarely get the disconnection error. Usually it's the game frozen error, DAI crash, or being teleported to a weird mountain top map with no mobs.

Regularity: Frozen > Crash > new map

By frozen, I mean when your character just stand still, not responding to any instructions. Can't move, can't attack, can't call up the menu. But the game itself isn't "dead" since other players and mobs are still behaving as usual.

See this post is adorable because you are still under the impression that can play and invest in this game without suffering through enormous letdowns due to game breaking bugs that continuously plague every patch and DLC. With other games you should expect better, but understand this MP is the exception. If the bugs themselves don't get you, expect server disconnects to ruin it for you.

I also see you are learning the hard way that pugging nightmare is generally impossible unless you have godly promotes. Even then, it's discouraged to play public for the very reasons you are talking about. Private is the only way to successful in this kind of endeavor. Running a map for 2 hours at a time you are guarunteed to experience some connection/bug problems.

TL DR: play NM on private only and lower your expectations in general for a less frustrating DAMP experience.
