Act 126: determination

Galatea cleaned the dirt and blood from her body in the bath wincing as the blisters on her hand moved. They were swollen leaked fluid as burst from pressure, she wanted seven's blood off her.

As the last the dirt turned the water long lost it's warmth and turned brown she sunk her head into the water remembering the few good times with Seven while captive. "It had to be done... fury or xaras would've done worse. It was mercy right yes it had to be done " she thought getting out the tub and drying herself off rationalizing her action. She looked at the mirror gazing on her body she was a frail child but now in her thirties she was robust and muscular, she didn't know if it was from the experiments or just good living running gladiator fight rings.

Zera stirred a pot of potato stew mixed with poultry curious to monkai sudden enjoyment of meat. She thought it was good that he was eating better even if only it was once everyday. His diet consisted greens and bread on normal days and occasionally fish. "Anytime now... dinner will be ready" she said tasting the stew " needs more deathroot"

"Deathroot no wonder fury is so small you poison the lad " Galatea said walking into the kitchen.

"I'll have you know monkai loves my cooking" zera said proudly. "And i see you went through my clothes " She said noticing Galatea stretching out her dress.

"Yeah well my clothes are covered in flith and such and it was the only thing you had in black.. bit tight"

Zera sighed in frustration, her guest was becoming too comfortable "so the yard is done?"

"Yea.. thank you... call me when food is done... I'll be reading or something " Galatea said leaving the room faking a smile as she left.. zera wondered how she was holding together after killing someone close to her, wondering if she could keep her promise to her husband.

Monkai sat next to coldi swearing in her sleep. He was ecstatic that his ward was improving. He had read xaras's notes on her and the various serums he gave her. They would've killed any person but she adapted to them. "Come on kid wake you had a week of catching up to do..." he whispered trying not to wake her, wondering what she dreamed that caused her to swear as such.

"Dear dinner is ready.." zera said quietly hugging him. He placed his hand on her arm stroking it. "Thank you.. be there shortly.. " he said

"Do you plan to kill him..."

"Painfully"

Zera held him tighter almost choking him "vengeance poisons the soul, clouds his judgement. " she said.

Her words were like caius's spoke truth but not what he wanted to hear. They spoke of passivity and patience but he demanded vengeance . It wasn't becoming a full abomination that he feared it was becoming another caius, he had heard the old tales of his retributions ,driven to either vengeance or delusions he owns this city. He feared that's who he was becoming but he had no choice "

It's true that Caius has a corrupting influence, but wouldn't you say Monkai is already corrupt? I mean, he has a demon living inside him.

xaras found his residence burning ash filled the air as bystanders tried to put out the flames before it burned theirs to ash. Xaras merely mourned the loss of two decades of research leaving the burning house not helping his former neighbors.

Zera and caius walked the market square enjoying the warm sun gaze upon them. "He's becoming more erratic he doesn't sleep or eat just stays by Louis's bed.. " zera said taking a seat at a café they had stopped at. She needed to vent, find out how to help her secret husband.

"Yes and his actions of late have been difficult to hide. He's butchered many slavers and other undesirables and getting no where just making a mess in the underworld. " caius said calling for a glass of wine from a attendate . He could see his daughter 's concern for the boy, it was supposed to way to keep a roguish fool away from his child.. but the rivaini was decent substitute and proved his worth in his house ,he didn't for see actual attachment.

"I'm just at the end of my rope father, he hasn't even come home the past three days. And I think the spirit is trying to curtail him somewhat. And when he does come home he's covered in blood. "

Caius listened to his daughter go on about his former enchanter he was find of the even if disrespectful but the more she talked the more concerned he grew for his daughter.

Monkai walked the streets looking for xaras he found he frequented the markets looking for victims like a Kohl addict looking for his next fix. beloved your not well you haven'to eaten in three days nor slept please I worry for you Scorn echoed. She nagged him for days urging him to rest it was a odd change in their dynamic he was the voice of reason and she the uncontrollabe one. "Quiet I think he's here... he has to be" monkai said holding his head from a headache he's had from malnourishment. He collapsed on to a bench his stomach grumbling and getting weaker. "**** come have to move" he said looking to see a old man standing above him.

Act 128؛ choice

monkai saw xaras scribbling in his notepad asking inane questions he had found his target. His hunger disappeared and was replaced by anger. His eyes glowed orange and green and mana erupted in a blue light knocking the vendors and xaras to the ground.

"Well charming young man.." xaras said dusting himself off. He looked at monkai amazed by his power. He wanted dissect him and find what gave him his power.

"You... experimented on my kid!" Monkai screamed voice echoing with his other half. He threw fire from his right hand it's intensity scorching his forearm and lighting from his left. Xaras dodged the attacks tearing off his coat as the fire burned it.

" I did nothing of the sort I tried to improve her... she was a failure both as student and subject " he said casting a bolt at entropy at monkai sending him into a wall. Monkai staggered as he pulled himself from it he felt his ribs splinter and heal. Monkai roared in anger seeing xaras run into a crowd of citizens, beloved your hand Scorn echoed.

Monkai looked his charred hand he could feel the healing but his blood was black as the night sky "it's nothing... " he said clenching his hand his skin cracking as he did.

Blue fire erupted from the markets melting stone but careful not to harm bystanders, xaras ran as fast he could combat was never his primary field he was a researcher at heart.. and planner. He felt a burst of wind erupt from his back sending him flying into the air, he landed in front of a fountain his silver hair burned turning black.

"Don't run old man.. I hunted you down for weeks... the world will be a better place without you" monkai said walking to xaras his feet melted the ground as he stepped, and he could feel his body fall apart due to the stress of his power on his body.

Galatea saw the blue eruption of fire from the location monkai was searching. "Look for the blue then handle crowd control" he told her.

"Pfft like void I'll hang back xaras owes me twenty years and five friends " she said running to a wall scaling it to the roof and jumping each one to meet her friend. "Save some for me a*shole" she said as fire erupted growing more out of control

Caius looked up hearing the sounds of combustion, he could feel monkai's magic it saturated the air. "So much potential... yet cripples himself .. such a waste " he said woefully.

"What?" Zera asked.

"Your pet is on the other side of the market causing a scene" caius said calmly taking a sip of wine "soon he will make a choice on if he's a man or a monster... "

Zera saw a flash of blue light it's glow terrified her.. "I have to help him."

"You'll do no such thing. I allowed you to dally with the boy but he's a liability even if he was once my son in law. Let him make his own choice I almost lost you once to his shenigans but I will not again." Caius said his voice commanding and stern.

"Thats not up to you father" zera said running to the commotion with caius sighing giving chase after her.

Monkai had underestimated xaras he was more powerful and had a near infinite resources in his mana, but xaras knew how to redirect his power.

"Interesting you somehow have a increase in power that's related to your emotional state. The angrier you are the more power you gain.. but at the cost of control... is it due your skills as medium or is it just poor pedigree. " xaras asked taking notes on him. "But what causes the eyes to change to different hues and why the mana seething from your skin."

"Ask the maker when you meet him!" Monkai cried throw another ball of fire. He collapsed to his knees holding his hand cursing. "Oh my mana burn...that's pretty nasty perhaps you should get that looked at." XAras said still scribbling in his notes.

Monkai spewed blood from his mouth spitting the remains. " **** you... pray I give you a quick death " he said. His body was failing him he had let his link with Scorn falter and while had his power.. his body could not adjust to the influx. He rose to his feet, his movements were sluggish and his mana fizzled as xaras conjured lightning hitting his limbs he felt his body go numb.

Xaras saw how his current stopped wondering what went wrong. "Hello papa.." Galatea said drawing her knife. "Neat trick right your experiments gave me the power to shut your magic out.. fury sit this out.."

"Stay out-" me said coughing blood beloved listen to her your body needs rest Scorn said paralyzing his body so she could work

Act 129: together

xaras dodged Galatea's blade,her strikes moved gracefully cutting the hem of his robe slightly missing his jugular. He waited for his magic to return as she spun kicking him in his stomach, causing him to stumble.

" well well thirteen you've grown in a fine fighter and beautiful woman had I known you'd become this... I'd made you my wife" xaras said leering at her body. He remembered her as a frail child that bruised easily when he showed her attention during the nights.

Galatea groaned at his words feeling disgusted by his remark,she drew a second knife from her belt flipping both her blades in reverse. "Go mount yourself " she said charging to him wildly slashing and kicking trying to kill her nemesis.

Xaras pulled a small vial from his pocket throwing it shattering in Galatea's face. she rubbed contents from her eyes, she began to see the world in slow motion "That solution AB I call wicked grace it alters perceptions. Do you feel the world becoming slower... do you.. hear.. my...voice get slower " xaras said. Galatea trying to process what her senses showed her, raising her blade.

Xaras appeared before her instantly "I told you thirteen it alters perception what minute is to you is half of that when your not afflicted.. " xaras said placing his hand on her breast fondling it, he casted a glyph on to her body "be a good subject and begone" he said kissing her lips. Galatea saw the glyph turn red and glow.. "is this the end.. ****.. **** fuck! I'm sorry seven I couldn't.." she thought slowly closing her eyes waiting for her demise. She heard xaras scream as lightning came down on him

" hands... off.. the.. harlot " monkai said walking to xaras.

"I'm.. not..a..harlot " Galatea said slowly as if looking for the words.

Monkai held his charred hand wrapped from the tail of his coat. "Alright have to end this quickly or else my body won't last." He thought watching xaras rise, I'm not done yet you need actual rest Scorn said she was able to restore his strength but she could feel his body still fail apart... fearing they would both die.

" decided to join us have you young master.. I real would like to see how your magic works the previous ragins never exhibited any talents like those " xaras said

"Its a dead house.. recently returning to it's status... not that you'll live long to see it!" Monkai shouted dashing to him throwing balls of blue fire at xaras. He winced as he felt his mana burn his hands, realizing this was the first time he may die..

Xaras erected a barrier absorbing the flames dusting soot off his shoulder "hmm it would appear that your power falters when injured or maybe due to exhaustion..."


"Oh shut up!" Monkai said throw a ball of entropy at him. Xaras dodged and opened a corona of magic sucking bystanders screaming inside.

Galatea tried to move but her movements were sluggish and found herself dragged into the vortex "help!" She cried seeing her knife fly into it.

Monkai grabbed her wrist holding her tightly "nobody kills you but remember"

"Let me go! We'll both get pulled in!" She said the poison finally leaving her system.

"You know what that isthe? force magic that will give you a painful death! What happens to the slaves and people you fight for if you die! What happens when animals like xaras run free!. I've done some shitty things the past week and I'll be damned if anyone dies on me. " monkai shouted. Galatea saw the conviction in his eyes, his human eyes,

"Such dramatics.. Monkai.. Ragin" she said stabbing his hand releasing her she waved him farewell as she flew to the void smiling.

"That's enough" caius said from a ledge snapping his fingers dispelling the vortex. He leaped from the ledge onto the ground, walking to monkai staring him down. "So you chose the path of being human... a abomination would have left her to die..." he said pointing to a unconscious Galatea.

"Tch what's it to you!" Monkai said collapsing wheezing, his lung felt if they were shrinking.

"Nothing in particular... but look it means everything to her." Caius said to a running zera

"Kai you look horrid did xaras do this to you " zera said looking at his charred hand and weary body.

"No it's just mana rebound.. if I can rest I'll be f- " monkai said vomiting black blood. he looked at his blood "symbiotic blood great.." he thought knowing his body was at it's limit.

"Wait there boy.. regenerate let my child's magic work... I'll handle your mess "

Caius and xaras stared at each other. Caius could feel xaras's power it was miniscule in comparison but it felt off. "Shall we begin?"

"Already started magister valleinous " xaras said pointing down. Caius looked at the glyph smouldering jumping from it as it erupted in a inferno burning his left leg.

"Parlour tricks.."he said looking at his leg that was seared. "I'll have the healers heal it later another scar to the collection " he thought. Caius willed his mana conjuring a storm of lighting and fire.

Xaras pulled a vial from his pocket imbibing it's contents as fire and lightning came upon him.

Caius breathed deeply knowing his foe was gone. "Hmph still have it." He said walking to zera and monkai, their faces looked in horror.

"MASTER!!!" Monkai shouted as he saw caius buckle over seeing lightining erupt from his chest feeling his blood drip to the ground.

"By the old gods..." caius said watching xaras walk to him from the crater left by his spell

"My my my had it not been for that potion giving me boost in mana I would have been dead six times over "xaras said. " but sadly I've grown bored of this fight" xaras said raising his hand and casting a massive bolt of entropy toward zera and monkai.

Caius saw monkai shield his daughter taking the full blast of xaras spell as he rushed to intercept. "You.. alright z... " monkai said his body bloodied covered tears on his skin "

"Yeah... but your.."

"I'll.. be fine few minutes and I'll be good as new." He said collapsing to his knees "I'm so ****** weak..." he thought seeing caius channel his and add it it to his power. "Hehe geezer just takes and takes" he joked.

Act 130: power

Caius slammed his staff into the ground as his power surged from the blood of one time apprentice. Electricity crackled around him as he unleashed a torrent of red lightining at xaras.

Xaras erected a barrier of light absorbing the spell. "So this is the best you can do magister vallinious? Pitable I expected better of one of your pedigree " xaras said laughing as the storm disapatted. Caius face was stoic ,surprised by the old man's resilience he had absorbed both his most devastating spells.

"Its been some time since I had a opponent such as yourself.. though not that it matter " caius said pulling his staff from the ground and casting another torrent of fire and lightning. Xaras dodged the his face burning from the heat summoning a glyph onto caius's chest.

Caius felt his scars split open watching his blood spay from his body ,his stoic face turned in to anger at himself for not seeing his plan. "Its a odd thing of the body scars are visible sign of healed injuries. But I found in my studies that the reverse can be done. Reopening them is a sickeningly easy thing to do..." xaras said watching caius fall to his knees wheezing as blood poured from his scars..

"Piece of **** " caius said raising himself hold his staff as support.

"Such vulgarity from one such as yourself tsk tsk" perhaps another demonstration will show you manners for your betters" xaras said placing a glyph on zera. Blood sprayed from her chest and into monkai's

Zera screamed as she tried to to seal her wound. Caius became enraged by zera's injury conjuring a geyser of flame fueled by his blood and monkai's around xaras melting the ground beneath him.

Xaras walked from the flames dusting himself off removing his coat. "Maker's blessing it is quite warm for the fall yes" he joked.

Caius buckled to his knees from blood loss wheezing and exhausted. "I'll end you for touching my child..."

Xaras drew a knife from his belt it had esoteric runes branded into the metal. "This made from pure lyrium... many slaves died to make this weapon....in my previous experiments I found it doesn't kill mates oddly... it turns their mana against them... I wonder how it will work on your daughter... don't get up.. your no spring chicken anymore lad "

Caius tried to stand forcing his body beyond it's limits but fell coughing blood. "Damn it boy get off you ass and kill this degenerate " he shouted.

Monkai rose to defend zera his legs felt brittle and he was exhausted from his direction less hunt "keep you ****** claws off my girl " monkai said casting a ball of entropy at xaras sending him back.

"So you've reverted to your domain ate school..so your either weakening or simply lost your anger " xaras said tapping his chin expecting a answer.

"HE'S JUST TAKING A BREATHER!" Galatea shouted jumping from a ledge kicking xaras to the ground and springing herself off. She flipped her knife pointing down " fury how much time you need til you get off you ass " she said watching xaras get up.

"Just a few more minutes..." he said making a fist.. beloved... I feel you again.. it's warm again not cold Scorn said her voice ecstatic he had come back to her. "Yeah I know scold me later" he thought to her

Galatea charged at xaras intending to finish what she started.

"I hear sounds of blades clashing.. I see fires burn everything! What is this... I don't like it! it's too hot.. too dark." Coldi thought as she slept,for days she wanted to move and wake up hoping her experience at xaras's lab was just a nightmare and the crazed look on her masters face was just part of it.

"I want to move... I have to move.. I'm late for class... master will be angry and make me stay longer... "she thought as a blinding light came upon her.

Coldi awoke her body still from disuse, she crawled from her bed limping to the kitchen,starved for food and thirsty for water. She swallowed meat that gone cold and drank water from the urn spilling down her breast.

She wondered where her master and zera was. She saw a line of blue entropy she had never seen before going outside the house. She grabbed a pair pants awkwardly trying to fit them as they were bigger than her and followed the entropy

Galatea swung and kicked at xaras trying to buy time til monkai gained his strength. She saw caius cast lightning at xaras narrowly escaping the strike. "Oyi Mr high n mighty watch it " she said annoyed by his indifference. She continued pressing her attack focusing her power blocking xaras's magic, gashing his chest.

"Well well thirteen you've hurt your papa... " xaras said wiping blood from his chest. He looked his opponents bored at how long the battle had progressed.. he charged at caius swinging his blade chipping his staff.

Caius snarled as he forced xaras down. He made xaras's blood boil
Listening to his screams. "Touch my daughter will you!"

Xaras laughed placing his palm on caius's chest. Caius felt unimaginable pain as his heart conscrited staggering back " cheap parlor tricks..." he said holding his heart and collapsing to his knees.

Galatea drove her blade into the ground missing xaras by a hair as he dodge. "Hush thirteen... papa will see to you soon" he said placing his hand on her face hitting her with a ball of entropy sending from to the ground wincing in pain.

"Well looks like it's just you and I master ragin. Please give me more information of your little trick" xaras said walking to monkai and zera, they could feel the unnatural echo from him.

Then the main feature. He took a firm hold of the staff and concentrated. Power twirled around him for a moment rushing forward. At the other end of the Chamber dark smoke appeared expanding into massive dimensions, a desire demon appeared in a form of massive horned beast. It stretched out with a roar that shook the chamber then stood still. Waiting orders. My summon works, the demon is firmly bound to the staff, Caius thought pleased. He concentrated again and the demon disappeared with a puff of smoke. Caius felt how the manifestation of the demon had taken some of the staff´s strength. It would return but excessive use could drain the staff from it´s power, at least for a moment.
