Act 167:revelation

zera vomited in the drain by monkai's words, she couldn't comprehend what he had said. "No abominations are grotesque horrors that destroy villages" she said wiping her mouth. Her mind began to put together the subtle clues on him. He was solitary, had mood swings ranging from sarcastic joviality to cold indifference. He rarely ate and a never gave any details of his life and if he did it was vague and inconsistent. Zera was mortified by what she discovered.

Monkai awoke slowly moving from the bed. He felt as if his body was made of stone,he used the end table as support to help him stand. He took a deep breath willing his mana to come to him soothing his aches.

The door opened quietly to not cause a stir. "Finally awake are you" zera said closing the door and locking it. "You gave miri quite a scare.. "

Monkai remembered he had passed out in a pool of blood he quickly lied "I had a vial splash on me and uh it looked like blood... the mere site makes me faint " he said looking for his robe realizing he was shirtless.

"Still you lie... lies are great but they kill the soul you eventually lose who... or what you are. Thats why I hate liars." Zera said walking to him.

Monkai stepped back off put by her serious demeanor " what are you going on about..."

Zera slapped to the ground creating a crater where laid. "Lie to yourself all you wish but not to my sister or me..." she said watching him spit blood from his lip." So we are going to play a game... if your controllable I'll let you live but if you are a abomination then I will kill you without hesitation "

Monkai sat in his chair tapping his foot awaiting her questions. "You sure you want to know... I have to fear of death... I'm already dead."

Zera leaned against his desk "lie to me and I'll wipe you from existence " she said as monkai began telling her who and what he was carefully omitting key details of his past.

The sunset as zera heard the last of his tale. The way he described rivain captivated imagining living there, but it was overshadowed by his other half "so you call yourself a symbiote " zera asked inquisitive

Monkai nodded "something happened I don't know if it happened when was a kid or when I was killed... but these past six months... I told you what I am and your a smart woman..what's the verdict.

Zera wiped her face any anger she had for him was gone and replaced by pity. "Your a slave like me caged like a bird" she thought. "One final question was what we had last night that moment.. was that the demon or was that you"

"Does it matter..." he said avoiding the question grabbing his coat grown weary of lying out of omission.

"It does... for me ,you, and miri " zera said raising her voice. Monkai stepped to her and looked her into her eyes. "Look in my eyes see the deadness in them my eyes aren't mine tell Miriel I found someone else.. tell her to find someone human.. not a monster " he said his voice hollow.

Zera placed her hand onto his chest "your heart is yours whether you admit it or not. Monsters don't feel remorse,guilt,... and love. People do" she said bringing her lips to his.

"It was real.. it was me.." he said kissing. They heard the door knock quickly pulling away from each other. "I'll get it.." monkai said clearing his voice.

Miriel stood at the door curious to why the door was locked. Monkai patted her on the head and walked past her. "Um is he alright and why was the door locked." She asked.

Zera placed her fingers on her lips tasting the copperery taste from the dried blood. "Yes.... but he said he's flattered but... "

"But no..." miriel said disheartened. Zera placed her hands on her kissing her forehead "thumb remember" she said pushing her to prove her right.

Muriel ran to where monkai went. Zera heard a loud shriek from the hall loud enough to be heard in the entire wing. "Lie to me will you" she laughed listening to the shrieking become louder.

Zera's face became full of remorse, now I third time she betrayed her sister. "I'm sorry miri but I think I love him..." she thought to herself watching the sun set.

Act 168: mother's plans and science projects

Murica shouted at caius incensed by his machinations. "You want to what!" She said throwing paper to the ground.

Caius wasn't faxed by his wife's tantrum merely played with a scale tipping it ever so slightly watching it bobble. "I inform you as a courtesy please collect yourself. My love" caius said sarcastically knowing it would irritate her more.

"You intend to marry my child to a low borne fool. He not even a full blooded laetan! I tolerated you little hobby of collecting strays but this I will not stand for!" Murica protested slamming her hands to the desk, knocking the scale over.

Caius the scale back in it's place still unfazed by her. "What I do is irrelevant. Now be good woman and fall into a crevice. I have actual work to do aside lying on my back feeding of their betters" caius coldly said watching murica leave embarrassed and furious.

Murica sat in cafe she frequented when she stayed in the city. She seethed furious that caius planned to marry zera to the rivaini believing her daughter was worth more . She held her glass of tea cracking it, she pulled a clear crystal from her satchel channeling mama into it.

"He likes games so much perhaps a disruption will keep him off task." She said watching the crystal glow.

"Ah Milady been sometime what can the guild do for you.." a voice from the crystal.

"Spare me the pleasantries.. I have a task for you.." she said, thunder boomed as she spoke to the crystal.

Monkai sat on the rails in the circle 's balcony starring down at the city's denizens thinking they looked like ants. He wondered if he fell would he die, suicide seemed like a preferable option than being enslaved to a madman. In the months since knowing his master monkai had grown to despise him, he was like the templars lording over those he felt inferior but was capable of fulfilling his promises at the cost of freedom..

"Hmph. Monkai you've done it now.. I wonder what Mathias would do if he saw me" he said talking about himself like a separate person. He stood over the rails carefully balancing himself listening to the wind blow in his ear.

"First enchanter I require your signature. " a voice said startling him and causing him to fall.

Monkai swore as he fell thinking it ironic how he thought of jumping. He felt a chain go taught around his ankle jerking him into the spire. "Ow..." he said being pulled up.

Alessandra pulled her employer back from the ledge amused but embarrassed by his carelessness. He had pulled some strings within the circle making her the lead researcher on projects relating to artifice. Though she often found herself making sure her superior filed paper work on her more extravagant ideas. "This is is why you stay off ledges " she said.

Monkai climbed back onto the balcony flustered by his second dance with death. " thanks vale.. what ever you need it's yours" he said kissing the ground shouting he was a live . Vale gave him the documents that she needed signing, she giggled at his face when he saw the budget .

" four thousand sovereigns for a anti- abomination device... " he said wiping his face feeling his treasury dwindle.

"Yes! You never know when they pop up and then BAM no more abominations" vale said ,her voice was filled with glee at the opportunity to make something revolutionary. Not out of pride but the sheer challenge.

"How bout I just brew you some wine and we call it even" monkai said practically pleading. In his time living within teventer and having to buy his own goods and supplies, he had become miserly cheap.

"I drank that last time and I had to have it burned not on your life chief. And you don't brew wine you cultivate it making sure the grapes and fruits are aged to perfection " she joked poking him with her quil " now if you will just sigh here and here ,initial here..."

Monkai did as she asked realizing he had no choice in the matter. "The circle accountant will be furious" he thought imaging her ready to have him hanged.

Act 169 : contract

moons covered the alley where murica was to meet her contact. She had spent the entirety of her day finding more about zera's possible husband. She scoured the archives only to find basic information on monkai's pedigree incesensing her more that she was to marry a nobody by definition.

"Milady you've arrived " a man said wearing dirty leathers and a scarf that muffled his voice.

"Tis not a social call Deras I have need of your services... and you are the one who is tardy " murica said pulling her shroud over her face

Deras chuckled at his regular client,he was partol of an infamous fraternity of mage-killers different from the their mundane counterparts; they were mages concerned only with coin. Anyone was fair play even their own clients when viable. "Then if we are to forgo plesentries perhaps you should inform me of the unfortunat fool" he said pulling a knife fro his belt and cutting his finger that was swollen. Puss and blood oozed from the wound.

"Disgusting must you do that here. Bloody degenerate. "She said covering her nose to avoid the sticking oder. "The target is monkai ragin I need him dead with two weeks. I will be at my Villa once your finish"


Deras merely cut more out of his flesh. "You know our price"

Murirca threw him a pouc, he judged the weight sufficient. "I want it to look like a accident... but painful."

"That Milady will cost you extra.." deras said letting a sadistic smile creep on his face

Act 170: betrothed

zera and monkai awaited for caius to enter his office they had summoned earlier that day to discuss a another so called issue.

"Must make him feel important to make us wait" monkai said digging through the drawers.

"Father is a busy man... and stop snooping around.. it's childish " zera said looking out the window. The air was tense around them, they danced between their growing attachment to each other. Rarely showing up for their training sessions and trying to avoid contact.

"Whats the geezer going to do" monkai quipped. He had grown fond of calling his master a geezer, he had to be twenty years his senior, but acted like man in his nineties always planning something just for a sense of control. It made his blood boil thinking he was no better than the templar at home.

"Something most unpleasant, snips" zera teased laughing at his open disrespect for her father. She saw his face grow reflective.

"If you could... don't ever call me that please.." monkai said putting the last drawer back and leaned on the wall on the opposite end.

The awkward silence was broken when caius entered the room,he took a seat in his chair feeling the difference. "I apologize for my tardyness plans for a... expedition have become complicated. " he spoke his voice had a hint of stress. "So he does fret... still not human" monkai though stifling his laugh at the irony of his jab.

"So father what brings us here we have a lesson." Zera said trying to weseal their way from boredom.

"Don't lie to me... neither of you have been training. You boy you do your duties but sleep the day away all but one that I directly commanded. And you child have been most curiously enough been missing most nights." Caius slamming his hand to the desk.

"Master with all due respect, truly all respect; may be you should I don't mind your business " monkai said expecting to get a laugh.

"What he means is both or schedules have been busy and we just train at night." Zera said covering for her friend.

Caius tapped the scale on his desk watching it bobble. "I have decided to curtail your... willful behavior and perhaps give you incentive to behave accordingly your to wed "

Zera scoffed at her father slamming her fist into the table. "You think you can just marry me off. Like some property "

"It's your duty for the family, one you've shirked for years " caius said his voice devoid of emotion. Monkai thought for a moment it sounded like the tranquil... they were just as cold and monotonous.. "I think you will find him a good partner " caius added pointing to monkai

Monkai face burned his brown skin becoming visibily red on his cheeks. "Uh while I'm flattered but I don't believe in arranged marriages. So I'll pass thanks though " he said leaving, stopping as he felt heavy

"Stay boy I'm not finished with either of you" caius said watching monkai buckle to his knees.

Monkai's heart tightened as he discovered what was being done to him. "Hexs really.. "

"Perhaps you should just hush for now and let the adults talk.

"Father enough!" Zera shouted "why him... we don't know each other our relationship is professional "

Caius chuckled "is that what you call a intimate conversation at some taven... professional "

Zera stepped back, shocked and irritated "controlling my life doesn't make you powerful father,nor does controlling others it leaves you a hollow man." She said picking monkai up and helping him to his feet.

"I do what I must and so will you. Mind you I could easily married you to one of proper birth but I decided pair you with him... despite being a rude and arrogant child. Caius said coding his hands. "I will be back in two weeks time the arraignments have already been made you marry when I return."

Act 171: conflict

zera gently open her door conflicted about what her father said about her duty to her family. She loved her father but his focus on the concept pushed them a part. They were close when she was a girl but she was a woman now able to make her own choices. She fell on to her bed exhausted by frustration. "Miriel will be most unhappy" she said thinking she will blame her.

He was nervous about being married he honestly never considered the prospect, they only slept together but they had no illusion of a future til the meeting with caius. He hoped with time she would grow to like his soon to be. He left the manor to think

monkai walked the streets of minrathous til the moons gazed upon him he looked into the sky "I guess I do.. love her" he said reflecting their moment wondering if it was just memories of a long passed woman confusing him. you play a dangerous game beloved planning to take another woman Scorn echoed.

"I feel normal when I'm with her.. and don't you thrive off your purpose " he said teasing her insecurity. He noticed a garbed man following him his scarf was a odd shade of green he had been following him for days discreet in his tracking since he saw him at the circle.

Zera sat across from miriel watching her read and gorge herself on sweets. She began to tear her sheets nervous to her sister's reaction. "Its a crush she will get over it.. duty right?" She thought to herself shaking her head at how she sounded like her father.

"Zera your doing it again..." miriel said turning the page. Her sister had a nervous tick when she had something important to say. She honestly didn't want to hear it she'd rather read her book riddled with smut.

"Sorry... I have something to tell you" zera said deciding to take direct approach.

"And that would be..." miriel said not paying attention.

"Father has decided yet a again who should be with..." zera said gauging her sisters reaction.

"What else is new. Can it wait til the end of this chapter " miriel said. Zera pulled the book from gaining her full attention

"I'm to marry monkai in two weeks. " zera said as Muriel's face opened with shock.

"So you **** my crush get to marry him... well that's fair " miriel said breaking her soft spoken nature. She rose from her bed cursing her sister and what she perceived as another betrayal.

"Miri... I don't have a choice... if you saw what he did to monkai you'd do the same" zera said remembering what she saw.

"I don't care! You always get your way I'm always third best never even second!." MIriel shouted. She took the jar from under her bed filling it with coins .

Zera sighed hurt by how she made her sister feel. "Your right... I sorry. Don't worry we don't have anything like that maybe you can.."

"Liar! I see the way you look at each other! You love him" miriel shouted.

Zera didn't know how to answer she wished their positions we're reversed . "Miri... I really am sorry."

Muriel sat beside her sister taking a deep sigh. "Does he love you?"

Zera smiled touching her lip. "Yes.. he does" She smiled at finally able to say she loved him, not something to say for sex but actual love.

monkai staggered to a warehouse forcing his way in. He hide behind crates to catch his breath. He found his assailant to be a devious opponent, he had thought by luring him into a small area he would have the advantage.

"Young master I have a gift for you..." the garbed man known as Deras cooed wrapping his hand. It was charred and muscles bled while he bandaged it. He found his prey boring, he let himself be lured into the alley and be attacked. He heard a sound coming from a crate,smiling he outstreached his hand.

Fire exploded in monkai's direction barely missing him. He stifled his cough as he heard deras footsteps. Monkai channel a white ball in his hand, he threw it at deras engulfing him a geyser of light.

Smoke clouded the warehouse ,monkai stood watching the smoke dissipate. "Well done lad you might finally be a challenge " deras said.

"What in the void are you that was pure entropy " monkai said his voice hoarse from smoke.

"Someone you just pissed off... " deras said seeing his scarf tattered. Deras conjure a gylph in front of monkai, exploding sending him back sliding.

Monkai wondered who his assailant was far as he knew he had no enemies any that wanted him dead lacked the conviction. His vest was in shambles and his eyes bled from the fire that burned the building. I believe it's my turn to play Scorn said as his body exploded with many.

Deras looked in confusion as he saw his skin seethed mana ."so your all talk... you gave in to demons... such a weak mage " he said readying a ball of fire. Monkai appeared almost instantly and grabbed his arm fracturing his wrist. Deras screamed as monkai kicked his tibiae shattering it in blood and bone. Deras knew if he survived he would never walk again... he launched fire from his free hand exploding in monkai's face.

Monkai's eyes glowed green and orange as he laughed. you think to kill us mortal I am Scorn Scorn announced grabbing deras remaining arm and tear it from it's socket throwing it in to the flames. Blood hit her tongue as she laughed savoring the coppery taste.

Deras looked in horror as he watched Scorn's finger dig into his eye,screaming as she tore it out. remember mortal you chose this she said going for the second eye.

"Monkai!" Zera shouted coughing from the smoke. Monkai returned to his senses seeing what he had done dropping the mutilated assassin. He looked at his hand as scorns laugh echoed within him.

Act 174: promise

zera pounded on monkai's door urging him to let her in. It had been a week since she saw in in the burning warehouse ,he had frenzied and bloodlustful look when she found him. She was able to escape from prying eyes that saw the incident leaving none the wiser. She wondered who the man was that he mutilated and left for dead.

"Kai... talk to me our wedding is in a week " she said pounding her head on the door in defeat. She knew it was a arranged marriage but it didn't stop her from loving him. She heard the lock his door click.

She saw the state of his room, papers and old bottles of alcohol covered his floor the bed was the only thing clean still made like he never slept in it. She saw him sit down, his face was riddled with regret.

"Thats not me.. I want you to know that.." he said dejected slouching in his chair. He looked at his hand flecks of dried blood still clung to him after scrubbing his hands raw.

"Kai who was that..." zeta asked kneeling before him talking his hand.

"I don't know he was following me for a week or so and I don't next I next we were fighting then the warehouse! " monkai said panicking at the memory. He began to bounce his knee, clenching his head.

"But what about your skin and eyes ,do you remember how that happened " zera pressed him trying to help him

"When I get stressed it happens... she takes over and I blackout "e said feeling nauseous.

Zera grew concerned over his degenerating mental state worrying that he would hurt himself in atonement. He like to pass off his worries as sarcastic indifference but it was beginning to take it toll. "Hush love just listen to my voice your not monster your just a man who made a mistake"

"Promise me something... " he said his voice serious

"I'm not dressing as a chantry priestess " zera joked hoping to ease his temperament.

"I'm serious... I think one day I might snap and I need you to promise to kill me . "

Zera stepped back from him starring at his face. "I won't do that...."

"Please I don't want to hurt anyone. I can separate from my other half we are too ingrained we are almost one person. So I need you to promise. I have contacts here who will help with the deed" monkai said pleading for her to agree to his suicidal quest.

Zera held him making him listen to her heart, skipping beats. "I promise but I know it won't happen. The maker placed you with your spirit not demon who have the chance to change the world learn to control it... her. I'll be with you" zera said kissing his hair. "But maybe a bath first"

Monkai laughed knowing she was lying about her promise to kill him... but it made him feel secure for the future, he never believed in the maker,gods, or even the afterlife but her words warmed his heart

Speaking of weddings, we not only have Miriel's wedding to write, but poor Cassia has been sitting on the back burner! Is her marriage to Batzas still on?

Yes it is, I have thought of it actually just the other day. Another house for Caius to stick his claws in.

I had a possible plot line for cassia but with zera/monkai "visiting " caius things got a bit shuffled around. That and I'd hate to mess up ucci plot line to keep sole contiguity.


Though I am curious as to how miri will react to pubs demeanor. And we have to write the courtship, they are vastly different gah too much to write and the arc is almost done

Miri is daddy's girl and she will do what Caius says. Thought it will not be easy courtship for Publius. She will fight back on her own way.

Yes, Publius just isn't as exciting as Monkai - not by a long shot! I wonder if Miri will look elsewhere for a bit of fun?

Well, you don't have to worry about these other weddings just yet. If I can get Caius out of this sticky situation with Elowyn, he will be free to plan some weddings, or at least pass off the planning to Livia or Nazlik.
