Act 175: matrimony

monkai looked in the mirror wearing a expensive imitation of caius' robes. It was itching against his skin realizing he was allegeric to the fabric.

"Makers glory hole he wears this " he shouted trying to scratch himself to avoid more irritation. Today was the day he was to marry zera and become apart of her house. His mind raced as he thought of consummating it.

He took a final look in the mirror seeing he looked just like his master. His stubble was groom into a goatee on his chin and under lip, his hair and mustache cut low to show he was of some worth. The only thing he had had that showed he had some identity was the Ruby earrings Kara gave him years ago. you look charming Scorn teased complimenting her other half but jealous that she was not to be.

"Thanks... but I hate this robe." He said gripping the sleeves.

"Dont you dare low born." Cassia said entering his room. She slapped his hands away from the sleeves, fixing the helm of his robe. "You will be immaculate this day and I'll have no shenanigans "

"You know people will talk a married man with... a available woman" monkai said hoping to crack her permanent scowl.

Cassia wanted to slap him for his insolence but restrained herself out ruining his face. " let them talk I'm in charge of the manor while father is busy. Today is a day where you... will... behave" she said her words cold as ice.

"Thats right you have a thing for your father " monkai teased laughing til she kneed him in his stomach.

"Manners dear brother... best you learn them you'll have a short life otherwise. " cassia said regaining her composure tossing her hair back. She saw monkai rise back up holding his stomach looking ill. "Know this your hurt my sister in anyway.. I'll cut off your balls and feed them to you." She added giving a sadistic smile, hoping he would do something foolish.

Zera fretted and the colours of her potential gowns wondering which matched her red make up. "Blue is rather cliché but red goes with my eyes and figure " she thought.

"Mmm what about this purple one I have" miriel said pulling the gown from the closet. It short almost to the point of a skirt zera saw laughing at her sister's gesture

"Miri I'm five inches taller than you without heels" zera said kissing her sister on her forehead. She was grateful her sister being the better woman despite the situation.

"Well it's red then " miriel said giving her the dress. Zera noticed the small marks on her hands she had made the dress from hand,she hugged her sister tight choking the life from her.

"Air... I need... air

The wedding hall was lined with the elite of tevinter, some cronies of his master ,other opportunists who thought by attending they would be rewarded. Monkai stood by the altar only recognizing three of the guests attending miri and cassia who stood opposite to him and vale who merely waved to him. He felt embarrassed by having few friends among a sea of serpents.

He saw the doors boom open ,seeing her clad in red velvet he blushed as she gracefully walked to the altar blushing as they took each others hand. The priest spoke hollowed words having become jaded by seeing the same thing over and over. Monkai was determined to be the exception. As he said "I do"

Monkai leaned against the wall watching zera dance with caius postponing his expedition just to dance with her. He saw the glint of pride in his eye,but he saw the leyline glow dark around him as if dancing with them. It brought him a sense of dread, any idea of respect vanished as caius smiled at him "I will protect her from you master " he said to himself polity bowing to his master and father in law.

Monkai felt a tug on his robe. "Present for you.. brother " miriel sheepishly said giving him a box. Monkai opened the taking out a sleeves black robe that had a scarf sewn into the collar ,it had his tattoo and the seal of house vaelinious embroided on the chest signifying his status as member of her family.

"Thanks... miri " he said smiling unable to speak. It was made from silk and wyvern skin, and sigils on it that would strengthen it from magic attacks.

"I know how you hate sleeves but prefer vests.. and we have wear robes and uh.. winter is near by " miriel stammered poking her fingers together. Monkai patted her on the head.

"Its perfect " he said taking off his robe trading it for his gift. He felt free as the wind being able to move without his skin irritated or living up to some mad standard.

Zera walked to them looking upon his robe noting how it fit him perfectly " you look amazing love"

"Miri got it for me. Its perfect " monkai said stretching his arms

"I used my savings to make it, both yours and monkai's " miriel said squeezing her hand showing her hard work. Zera whispered in her ear causing her face to shine. She jumped on monkai's feet using them as support and kissed him while zera covered them from prying eyes."That was my first " she said darting to the cake as it came in.

"I'm not even going to ask " monkai said offering his arm to her

"Just between sisters not brothers " zera teased taking his arm and walking to the cake mouthing to miriel to wait before she ate it by herself

What an unexpectedly civil celebration! Miri is so sweet. Cassia, however, may turn out to be my favorite of the sisters.

Act 177: pride and inheritance

Coldi sat with her wisps as he ended his later tales of adventure during his first year in tevinter. She was mesmerized by the romantic tone and how much a nicer person he was. "You sounded like a ingrate master.." coldi said

"I still am if you ask the right people " monkai laughed joking at his own expense.

"And the plot thickens, a heir to a dead house, former southern mage who marries the head of a prestigious house and later exiled and now lives of his book and consultation fees. Amazing! " coldi shouted as the wisps bounced reacting to her excitement.

Monkai shook his head "it's not supposed to be amazing it's supposed to teach you respect something I never learned"

"Uh yeah but you made it so romantic. I mean you fell in love love with a templar,then a spirit of desire and now zera! Oh and I'm going to tease miri til she explodes.. I didn't know she had a thing for her brother kinky!" Monkai smacked her head with his staff attempting to knock some sense into her.

"Maker preserve me.. coldi... louis.. I want you to know that no matter what I'll always be proud of you. But I need you to understand while being what I am is something I would never change, it's a life of constant control. Those wisps may one day be your end." Monkai said standing up and walking to a chest. He pulled a key from the skull on his staff, chuckling that ugin was useful finally.

"Master?" Coldi asked. As monkai gave her a large box.

"Open it.. it's yours." He said.

"Coldi opened the box showing a old and bloodied vest, moths had chewed the shoulders, the ends were tattered and the sewing was coming undone.

"Don't worry it looks like **** but the markings that made it a southern circle image are gone. It will only be a bad fashion statement... like your style of dress " monkai said.

Coldi looked at her clothes they were a gaudy shade of blue, her blouse was some what tattered matching the brown vest but better condition and her trousers had holes in them deliberately to show skin. "I guess master " she said smiling to his her embarrassment.

She put the vest over her blouse asking how did she look. "Just one more thing " monkai said taking a earring off his ear holding out to her.

"That's yours I can't it's the only thing left of her right. I refuse" coldi said backing away from her master.

"Take it. Even I don't get jewelry " zera said descending down the stairs. "If he's giving you something like that it's a great disrespect to him if you refuse". Zera took the earring and placed it in her hand closing it "it's alright sweetheart "

"I'm giving it to you because your just like me, casted aside finding a family in odd places. Your family " monkai said pulling his ear

Coldi felt pressured but is wasn't something of expectations she couldn't meet but one of pride. She idolized her master and wanted be him, but this was too much. "I'm only borrowing it I'll give it back" she said compromising with her guardians.

"Thats more than fair" zera said pulling her ear.

Coldi felt a pinch as the pin pierced her ear feeling a small drop of blood hit her neck. She willed mana to her ear closing the wound. She dug her foot into the ground "um thank you master.. " she said.

Monkai looked at her seeing himself as a child for only a moment before seeing her again smiling. "No... thank you Louis for being my student and sister "

What an unexpectedly civil celebration! Miri is so sweet. Cassia, however, may turn out to be my favorite of the sisters.

I like miri the most she has dirt on everyone but so passive and adorable that few suspect she can end them all lol. Always watch the ones with sugar/confection addictions lol. But really with miri I Feel she's a underused character that'potential yet to and probably never reveal itself. Not do tobwriting but merely cause she's such a powerful character.

But I love writing Cassia I envision her very monkish due to her beliefs but has rare moments of human reactions that are just hilarious. I often use this whole err n writing caius or Cassia

But the most challenging for me to write is zera she has 3-4 personalities

1: when she's with her father she 's rude, prideful, arrogant and independent yet she still loves him.(though idk now since the current plot with caius I need to know! Well I have ideas but I won't share in case it spoils anything )

2: with her sisters she acts as the "fun parent" urging them to live a little before her father does what he does out of duty/conditioning. They are imo extremely close despite their various personalities, her and miri are like mother/daughter due to the duplicity of murica and her verbal abuse .I kinda wish I showed more of the good side but it came off as "condoning"the abuse a real issue in situations like that but again I felt like I wasn't going to do it justice. With cassia it's most ideologically and how their beliefs clash especially with zera's party girl nature but still has her back.

3: the side with monkai is a complicated one. She loves him more than anything but is prevented by external forces. She feels she can "be herself " but has to keep her emotions in check due to a promise she made to him ironically has little intention of doing it.

4: the dutiful tutor for coldi well that's more like the adopted sister relationship theirs love but she flabbergasted by her equal in her party girl nature and tries to mentor her to be a good mage to her house. Be ragin or any other.


I just love the variations in every character toy with each just become more real with every stroke on my typewriter.

I think it is a good collection of thoughts. Something I have had in my head too. I will work on the Caius/Zera/monkai scene next. After Caius gets himself of the bed.

I love Monkai's family because it's a family of love, not of duty. I've felt the same pressures in my life: endless duty to family and guilt-tripping and manipulation and hating holidays because I have to endure visits with people I can't stand. I feel like my friends are my real family.

 

Even so, Magisterial family duty makes for wonderful drama. It always reminds me of mafia stories and Greek tragedies.

@sere: I totally get that parents similar especially my mother. My dad is ex navy so he was very autocratic growing up and expected every thing a certain way and rarely showed interest in my hobbies til I was like what.. 18-19. Add to the constant fights, I have little respect if any for him and always treat with sarcastic indifference

My mother was well **** my mother. She gave me everything I wanted,all the new systems etc but it came at a price of keeping secrets and her affairs from my dad. Eventually we had a massive falling out before I moved to Alabama.(but forced to see her today due guilt tripping from pop, whose gotten "holy")

And yeah I feel the same like you know where you stand with them.

It does it wonderful satire and very real

I won't lie monkai's and caius relationship (and generally every adult ) takes some inspiration from my issues with my parents

They all mostly do. There is a slight piece of us and our dealings with other people in each of our characters usually. Consciously or unconsciously. Making someone completely outside our sphere of life and keeping it there takes skill.
