Act 280: visage

kara stood at monkai's door her hand barely reaching the the door to knock, she gently knocked hoping he was asleep so her plan would fail. "Damn it Bret.. Just do it , sex is nothing do this get paid and go back to the shadows." she said resting her head on the door.

Monkai open his door and saw her. "Zera? What you doing here?" he asked confused. Her letter hadn't told him of her arrival, finding it uncharistically odd as he tried to piece things together.

Kara hesitated for only a second before answering , remembering zera subtle gestures and manners "I couldn't resist leaving you alone love" she said mixing truth with a liberal anount of imagination.

"It's only been two weeks but I've missed you too" monkai said letting kara inside. He felt a sense of suspicion emanate from her as he traced his memories finding he was missing the last for hours "I'm not crazy yet.. I read the letter. It was professional, direct and one could say blunt..something is off." he thought as kara removed her coat slightly showing her back.

it feels like her but off distant compassion said giving her opinion exasperating her other half's paranoia. To use their ability to sense one's emotional state required a clear mind as well emotional clarity of the self both currently lacking.

"Kai.. I have to be back soon... Join me" kara said seductively letting her coat fall to the floor calling him to the bed. She wondered why he had still used the name monkai with lineage revealed finding it a pretenious name.

"I don't think so fera and lucius are upstairs and you get pretty loud..." monkai said declining to join her, he didn't doubt his eyes nor her but found her appearance fortuitous after having confided in kara.

"Your over thinking... Think of it as a reward for training so hard" she replied smiling to ease his suspicions remembering he was possesed and could possibly see through her deception.

Act 281: plea

zera dropped the scroll detailing the covenant's location. Her chest felt heavy as if suffering a light stroke "did.. He finally succumb... Good good a little insurance" she said steading her heart,taking slow breaths. Her plan to send kara with her lover was twofold the first to play upon their bond and ensure her loyalty despite the emotional strain it would bring to their relationship the other to just to remind him that she was the better lover than his demon or any mortal. She found it ironic that for her ideals and resistance for her father's schemes she was doing exactly what he would've done, she was using Tiberius for her own ends and was slowly pushing her man away just to forward her agenda

She picked up the scroll and reread the sentence she left off. The scroll was detailed enough to not only gave it's location in that it resided in port braga's northern jungle called "the eye" and that the one hosting was a magister Alin Sevas. Rumours persisted before his mysteriou disappearance that he was known to host arena like battles in his estate supplied with slave child who had to fight for food and their chance at freedom all the while presenting himself as a fair man well regarded in social reforms that inspired her aswell.

"A dead reformer... Hosting a tournament.. How curious" zera said upon hearing a knock on her door. She wondered who would come at the late hour she knew it wasn't Tiberius for while they enjoyed their respective company they refused to enter their respective residences out privacy.

Zera stepped down the stairs entering the foyer seeing gend and susa, their faces were unusually fearful and serious.

"Yo queen. Got business to discuss" susa said her voice cross and somewhat threatening. Gend placed his hand on his sister's shoulder urging her to calm down.

"If its about your farm its been delivered six goats, two cows and a acre of fences to replace the ones my ward destroyed." zera said hiding her hand in her pocket readying her magic in case the twins decided to remember their previous affiliations

"Nah we good on that its the issue with your little fight. We want in." susa roared folding her arms trying to be polite. She held a low opinion regarding mages and most in general thinking she could rule over them if she was so inclined but she hid her views from her younger brother knowing he wouldn't approve.

"Well the roster is full and decided so tough. Besides whats your interest last i checked your semi-retired from direct combat, your consultants at best." zera responded.

Susa's eye twitched her anger begining to boil over "I wasn't asking.. I'm telling you highborn we are on the roster, and we are going to kill any who get in our way. I'm being calm just asking to tag along but we are going regardless"

Zera began to crack her finger, grpwing irrate by susa's demands like a child having it's candy taken away "again your reason..."

Gend made odd gestures with his hands to susa who swore taking a seat in the chair across from them." mistriss forgive my sister she is moody when stressed." he said his voice awkward yet methodical. Zera often preferred to talk with him over his sister finding him the more reasonable half.

"Gend tell me whats going on? I am reasonable when given information" zera said changing her tone

Gend took a heavy breath as he formulated his response having practiced for days. "I am sure you know our past.. It's common knowledge in hushed parts of this city. I won't bored you with the details but we found out our former master yet lives and my sister seeks vengeance while i just want to stop him.. Magister sevas isn't who he seems those rumours were just the good days" gend said kneeling before zera his head at her feet "i humbly beseech you to let us come with you"

Zera took a seat after telling gend to stand up. She had forgotten the rush she felt when formally addressed despite preferring to do away with titles in her dealings "vengeance is a waste of energy.. But if your so intent fine but your on support til one of our mains is incapacitated. Deal?

Gend smiled while susa scoffed. "Of course thank you mistress"

Act 282: loose end

The man used his cane to hobble throughout the streets of marothous. He mourned his missing arm and eye as he sat on a bench to rest. "Damn that ragin fool, I will find him.. And tear his arm from him myself" Deras said her voice racked with hate, for the past four years he crawled from recesses of the void surviving the loss of his eye, right arm and the hobbling of his leg rendering him a cripple and former assassin with nothing living off of scraps refusing to render himself to thievery and losing what pride he still had. He looked up to see his next meal only for his face to brighten with glee.

Monkai walked with bel coming from the blacksmith's. "Tell me why you needed a new hilt just replace the blade." monkai said rubbing his temple having to pay for bel's equipment. He couldn't lie saying his cousin lacked taste when he saw the golden hilt. It was curved allowing for better dexterity and the guard wrapped around where the wrist would've been to protect his hand.

"Because my shoddy dressed companion you destroyed the last one... Besides i replace my swords every year and its free this time" bel said sarcastically tossing his new toy in the air inspecting it. He found it was lighter realizing the smith had cheated him and used bloodstone instead. "Motherfucker...Excuse me... " bel said smiling and entering the smithery, monkai's face dropped as he heard bel swear and use his status as a imperial knight to make the blacksmith refund his coin for attempting to cheat him.

Deras awkwardly followed them to the carcella manor nearly losing them multiple times due to unable to keep up with the carriage."so hangs out with carcellas... How odd.. No matter I'll kill them all if need be" he said taking a piece of parchment from his pocket. "I have been saving this for years"

He spent the next few days watching his nemesis's routine seeing where he spent the majority of his time and waited til the dead of night sneaking in to the training ground amazed his skills at espionage hadn't completely languished. He saw the grounds riddled with slash marks and entropic scorch marks remembering how he favored the school. "A defensive art... Says something doesn't it" deras whispered as he began to dig his cane into the earth copying the design on the parchment. It would take the entirety of the night but it would be worth it for by morning his vengeance would finally be quenched.

Monkai yawned as he cracked his neck, he had difficulty sleeping having been having a reoccurring dream of zera coming into his room and having sex. He would've paid it little attention passing it off as grown moderately addicted to her but they became more and more vivid with his other half also unable to tell.

"Mathias get dress it's time to train we got a week left and your footwork is still poor" kara said barging in. She looked as if something troubled her but was moderately more happier, and when monkai pressed her disposition she merely gave him the finger told him to get dressed.

Monkai saw her nodding falling alseep as she leaned on the wall. "Wake up sleeping on the job... Bad templar" he said playfully teasing her, she glared at him knowing she hated her former title but smiled that he still didn't know of the nights they shared else his demeanor would be far less jovial.

"Blame bel.. Bastard had me out all night helping him find a bedmate and trying to help me find some. Unlike you i don't have round the hour access to shield or sword " kara said giving him a sarcastic response.

"Shield and sword?" monkai asked confused. He remembered her odd habit of using euphemisms to describe sex and anatomy thinking for her brazen and ill tempered persona she was uncomfortable with the subject.

"Yes shield and sword you know like-" kara said inserting her finger in a hole she made for her other hand. They heard the sounds of guards screaming disrupting their attempt to restart their bond. "I swear, trouble follows you like a fly to ****"

Deras watched as the guards began to melt into a puddle of sinew and ooze. He had conjured acid to deter his would be assailants "let not my appearance decieve you serpents I am far from benign, bring me the ragin!" he cried. He had waited for the entire night tracing a large sigil for Monkai. He had paid every mage, stole every tome he could on handling abominations formulating his own spell intent on purging the monster. "Only a man can kill monsters" he thought to himself.

Monkai and kara ran to the courtyard their swords drawn to see what the commotion was. Monkai, felt a slight numbness overcome him then pass "what in blazes.." he whispered i felt it too stand fast compassion warned, she felt a sense of dread similar to the tomb that reverted her to her original focus and nearly separated them.

"Ah there he is the the monster of minrathous the cliche hero!" deras shouted leaning on his cane. He began to salivate at finally finding his fortuitous foe almost fighting back tears.

"Know this *******?" kara asked assuming a offensive stance beginning to channel her ability to negate the intruder's magic. She found the concept of channeling her will to be similar to a mage's focus on mana believing it came to a battle of willpower.

"Nope but i have killed a lot if people the past few years" Monkai said. He began to count his foes that fell to him " ugin, a few demons i think, uh about ten crazed bystanders, my grandfather oh yeah i met him forgot to mention that the other day ,oh and two batshit mages obessed with something though had help with that one." monkai said elaborating over his victories.

"You killed your grandfather! We all have those thoughts of killing our relatives but WE NEVER ACT ON THEM!" kara said chastising him shocked that his childhood fantasy had been realized. "I told you i would wasn't kidding " Monkai defended himself unashamed of parricide

Deras' face twitched angered by the two's display thinking they saw him as a joke to be ignored "damn you to the void for eternity!" he cried slamming his cane to the ground. Green light enveloped them forcing kara and monkai to redirect their attention back to the mysterious man, kara spun her sword slamming it to the ground to dispel his magic but felt a burst of wind send her to the wall imprinting her figure into it before she could suceed in her attack.

"KARA!" monkai shouted his voice cracking his mind fading back to when he drove his hand into her chest. He tried to move only for streams of light to bind him forcing him to his knees, sapping his mana from his body.

Deras laughed manically as his plan came into effect

Act 283: goodbye

Monkai felt the the streams devour his mana trying to summon whatever he could to dispel deras's magic. He saw the gylph that he had failed to notice, it was a amalgamation of various wards that was made for demons and similar creatures. He saw certain traits from his homeland inside them and knew he was in dire straints. "**** stupid and careless fool" he whispered as he felt his heart slowly stop and his lungs laboured for breath.

"Haha yes yes feed the seal of retribution, let it DEVOUR YOUR VERY SOUL! You took my arm ,my eye and the use of my leg now i will take your life!" deras cried laughing and watching monkai slowly die. Monkai saw kara slowly rise to her feet smiling until she fell coughing blood.

"Three ribs broken and a punctured lung... Damn it" kara thought as she laboured for breath wondering where bel and the others where. She used her sword to push herself up wheezing as her lung filled with blood "let... The ...riva..ini go." she said weakly raising her blade.

Deras chuckled at her command. "Or what you going to kill me? You can barely stand. Mundanes are nothing but ants the lot of you should be exterminated or just used a slaves at a whim" he said arrogantly deducing her condition. He watched as monkai convulse as his heart stopped, smiling as a blue figure slowly came from him. The world slowly dimmed as monkai heard screams for his other half

Compassion attempted to hold her body together, watching in horror as she slowly began to disappear. She knew her kind were essentially immortal for if they died they would return to the fade but changed ,different she was lucky to even have this existence changing from one aspect to another then back. No no i have to hold on for him... I promised she cried

Monkai screamed in pain as his body began to open from his wounds he had accumulated over the years. Even in his mind he could feel everything the hate he felt for his grandfather and caius, the fear of being alone, the joy of friendship, and the love he had for his adopted family "compassion don't let go! DON'T LET GO!" he pleaded as the green streams pulled him into the darkness of his soul.

Compassion knew the more she tried to stay the worse he suffered, she was immortal and would eventually be reborn as a new spirit with a new focus that he would hopfully bind to him again but she merely smiled as she slowly crawled to him each inch causing her to fade faster until only half of her remained when she reached the man she was bound to. Hush.. Mathias it's time... I raised you as mother,sister, and lover it's time to learn to let go and be a man now.. I'm sorry but this is the last time i can help you..you will be a normal person again no longer plagued by some voice or healed unnaturally. I want you to live and know i will always love you compassion said cupping monkai's face wiping away his tears

"Damn it dont't do this! We faced worse than this just give me a second... Please" Monkai pleaded as he began to feel his very essence become hollow.

Compassion raised her hand and used the last off her power to draw the green stream that sought to devour her other half to her making her a its primary source. nothing will harm you.. Not while i am here...NOW GO! she cried erupting in a blinding light sending monkai into the light. Tears flew from monkai's eyes as he saw her jewel eyes for the last time.

Kara skidded across the courtyard. She rose to her feet raising her blade, her body felt as if it was made of stone as she laboured for breath "damn it why won't he get up.. I can't keep this up forever" she said seeing monkai lifeless and the seal becoming inert.

"Aww the hero is dead was hoping he would last longer" deras said conjuring a viscous liquid in his hand.

"Shut up" kara sakd coughing blood and falling to her knees her bkdy finally giving out. "No you b*tch get your ass up it's not over " she thought spewing more blood. She saw deras throw the liquid to her, she used her blade to deflect the liquid but found it was acid the spraying into remaining eye and melt her sword.

Deras laughed as she rolled in agony at being blinded his spell he had crafted as a way to extort pain upon the man who maimed him. "Well that was fun but... Nope actually the fun is just begining" he said impressed that kara refused to scream and wondered how much she could take.

A crash came from the south wall with a grotesque creature come from it and fade into the ether. "Now i only have one rule no demons in my residence..." lucius said with bel and fera begind him.

Deras groaned at their arrival having expected their demise hours ago."would you be so kind and die already" he said throwing a glob of acid.

"I got this pops just sit there and eat something maybe mount mom" bel said as he summoned a large blade from his hilt and swatted the glob back at deras hitting his chest watching him struggle to get his coat off before his skin dissolved. " and you said playing wallop was a waste of my teens" bel said sarcastically

"It was a waste you missed" fera said cracking her finger in disapproval. She raised her hand gently pointing to deras conjuring glyph that forced him to stand still his skin begining to bubble from his spell. "Boys please end this my nap is near"

Lucius grunted in acknowledgement as he assumed his favored posture. "Sixteenth stance; magister's nail" he thought to himself. He conjured his blade from his hilt raising it as high as he could knowing he would throw his back out and brought it down as hard as he could making a line entropic energy split deras vertically. There was no display of gore and deras simply fell in twain

Kara crawled to monkai feeling the ground to reach him "damn it where are you...your here somewhere" she cried wiping blood from her eye. She found his body and pushed him over to her any trace of life. She began to curse as she beat his chest to restart his heart wish she knew healing magic or the very least had a poultice.

"Move girl... You will break his collarbone. Just sit back and wa-... Just move" fera said reconsidering her words at the blinded kara. She moved her hands in a arcane pattern conjuring a torrent of lightning into monkai.

Kara heard a faint beat ,it was slow and weak but it was there and her heart jumped at her friend being alive. "His lab we have to get him to his lab he has herbs, poltices something"

"Easy sunshine first we get you two stable then we play healer. We will leave tonight for now let's get y'all patched up" bel said looking at the destroyed courtyard surrounded by puddles of goo and back to kara "blinded after having what you so coveted.. Ironic" he thought to himself

Act 284: slumber

fera groaned at kara who panicked throughout their voyage back to minrathous. She regularly sent electricity through the unconscious monkai keeping his heart active. Her knowledge regarding medicine was poor knowing only enough to treat small wounds and mild ailments. "Enough girl it's late and I'm growing weary of a blind girl who does nothing but whine" fera said lighting her pipe and enjoying the tingle in her head.

Kara tightened her bandage over her left eye feeling for the knot, she glared at fera who tried not laugh when she was on the opposite side. "How could you smoke at a time like this" she cried her concern turning into anger. "****** addict" she thought

Fera blew smoke into her face the smell forcing kara to hide her face fearing the smoke would be trapped in her eye socket. "Very easily obviously. And I never particularly cared for the bastard preferred his father personally was endowed like-" fera said candidly implying her indifference to monkai.

"Stop bullshitting and do something" kara interuppted barely able to keep her temper in check.

Fera knocked on the back of the carriage "bel sunshine please hurry... I'm going to go mad "

Zera streached her arm listening to her joints pop. She had enjoyed her night attending a play for one of Tiberius' relatives thinking it a interesting take on the legend of umbra the blood witch. "Eat and then bed... Maybe some smut in between" she said planning the rest of her night until hearing the door burst open. "Somebody better be dead or dying" she thought expecting a fight.

"Hellooo is there anybody here? " bel whimsically asked carrying a still unconscious monkai. He found him deceptively heavy despite his lithe build as decided to set him over the railings. Zera saw him lie her lover down assuming the crash was from combat

"You dare... In my house!" she cried cracking her finger. Mana began to circle her as she let out a sharp whistle. "Coldi... Kina..." she whispered.

Bel gave her a puzzled look genuinly confused "uh I'm beleren paranois but bel and call me - he said introducing himself until seeing a shard of ice pass his cheek narrowly missing him.

"You have shitty aim.." Kina said as coldi began to circle her hands. Kina saw the frenzied look in her yellow eyes and wondered if she was going to lose it.

"That's enough children. We have wounded... " she said point back to kara who felt for the door tripping over the steps.

Act 285: surgery

" kina give me those calipers, coldi i need you to stop the bleeding over his heart. It's not clotting" Zera shouted issuing commands to her ward. She had been given a brief report on what happened in marothous, she had saw the burns on his neck and wrists but was horrified by how every scar he had was open, bleeding profusely.

Kina poked the wound she fixated on. "Fun fact this a sword injury... Probably four- five years old judging by the scar tissue.. Odd how it severed a few veins around his heart but survived... Hmm" she said macabrely opening it until coldi flicked her ear

"Move runt either do something or enterta- just help" coldi commanded but realized that her apprentice might have killed them. She placed her hand over his heart chilling the blood to a crawl and proceeded to slow his body to buy time. "Bleeding stopped for now. Ideas z this the best I got."

Zera calmly analyzed the situation "he should have regenerated by now.. Theres now trace of lyrium toxicity nor any actual injuries but he's hemorrhaging.. " zera thought reviewing her intial diagnose. She had found it fortunate after journey to the tomb he had given her a detailed manual regarding his health in case of this event but found it lacking in any actual fact.

"Zera!" Coldi shouted breaking zera's concentration. She grew worried by how clinical her mistress was believing she was either mad or just indifferent. "How can you be so calm.."

"Panicking won't help and a physician.. Must .. Oh ****.." zera began stopping once she realized what was happening to her lover. She opened his eyes to show them to be their original colour and his hair reverting back to it's dark colour "**** shit ****" she said cursing as she began to channel her magic.

"What's with the cursing?" kina said playing with a scalpel twirling it between her finger.

"Kai is a abomination in short of a long boring conversation. And if he and his... Other half are separated he will die" zera said pouring magic into monkai forcing his wounds to close momentarily but began to reopen.

Monkai gasped weakly seeing his friends as silhouettes as he labored for breath. "The... Prism .. It's amp... Tr..try" he said passing back into unconsciousness

Coldi pulled the prism from her belt having kept it on hand after her master's disappearance and near death experience with kina. "This?"

"Yeah thats vale's work... " she said taking the object. It fit awkwardly yet at the same time comfortable in her hand. She held a minor disdain for the artificer's contraptions seeing each one a while phenomenal works they had dual purposes. She took a deep breath focusing her magic using the artifact as a bridge and covered monkai in a blue light

Monkai began to breath normally as zera wiped the sweat from his brow. He mumbled incoherently caught between sleep and awake wondering if he finally bit off more he could handle. "How is he" kara asked feeling her way to them falling down, still unable to cope with being blind.

"He is stable but we will know in a few days... Your not being paid by the way." zera said focusing on her man while curtly rebuking the stumbling kara for her failure in her task.

"Good good.." kara said paying little attention to zera's remark

Act 286: blind recovery

kara felt around her apartment looking for her daily dosage of lyrium, she struggled with drowning out the excess noise suffering mild headaches. "Vhenhidis where is it" she said accidentally hitting her knee and hearing a loud crash. "Damn it..."

She stumbled to back to her bed lying over the sheets, mulling over how she would be able to pay rent, lacking any form of pension nor any secret savings since money management was never her strong suit "we are in the **** now.." kara said sighing and going back to finding her philter

Monkai staggered to the door using his sword as a aide. He had slept for days recovering from Deras's assault seaching the fade for his other half, knowing that she was truly gone. He knew one day they would had to part but pretended it was simple cynicism brought on by his moods.

"You can go back to bed on your own... Or i can help you" Coldi said walking infront of him blocking his exit. Monkai groaned at his ward annoyed by how she babied him.

"So i lost a few pints of blood and took a long nap i'm fine" monkai said blinking his eyes to fight off a spell of nausea

"Uh huh.. Back to bed last warning" coldi warned taking a pipe from her belt filling it with elfroot. She whistled sharply as monkai continued to the door and was attacked by zero forcing him to the ground.

Monkai groaned in discomfort as the large mabari said on him scratching its ear. "Get off.. When did this thing get this big!" he said struggling

Kara smoked the last embers of her pipe blowing smoke "he's no danger to anyone... Jackasses not withstanding" she said dumping her pipe onto the mud listening to the ember hiss.

"He is using my friend-his brother as a puppet it's wrong!" zera shouted her temper rising.

"You picked the roster now live with it.. Besides your betting on us anyway i saw you at the keeper." kara said leaving "what does he see in her" she thought remembering that monkai preferred more sedate people.

"Kara! Hold up" monkai said chasing after kara knowing she had a temper worse than zera's but had a longer limit.

Six the combatants screamed as they where engulfed in the fire burnt to cinders. Sevas and the audience cheered for the display laughing as the remaining eight backed away. "Kaffas.. " durba thought as he felt his arm become limp realizing what had had happened to his puppet.

Durba pulled his left hand slowly arcing his fingers forcing his puppet to erect another barrier. "**** whats wrong with my arm why can't i move it" he said trying to move the fingers in his right hand only to feel blood fall in rivets. He began to see that in his haste he had someway caused himself to be bound to his puppet, for every injury his brother sustained he incured the same.

"See ladies and gent tis just a man he isn't invincible destroy his pet and then him simple.." the woman cooed conjuring lightning and unleashing a torrent at the puppet. The remaining mages followed her lead as if entralled to her words. "A bit of mental domination ,subtle but it works a drop of blood in their cups and they are mine" she thought remembering gow she planned to cheat in the tournament.

Durba spewed blood from his mouth and held his side as a shard of ice broke through his barrier and punctured his puppet. He pulled his hand roaring to making his puppet cast another spell of light erupting in a ball of light blinding the mages. Durba fell to his knee gasping for air feeling his hold over somasi falter. "Losing a lot of blood.. Have to end this" he said rising to his feet only to buckle to the mud.

Somasi croaked as he saw durba struggle to his feet. It had vague recollections of the previous person it was, it was a spirit bound to a corpse forced to serve it's master. Somasi shambled to the mages that rubbed their eyes standing in the center of them "bro..th...er" the creature croaked, its jaw falling off the magic that bound it finally weakening. It began to glow as it's skin seethed and burned.

"Wait stop brother stop i command you!" Durba cried trying to force the puppet to return to his side, he needed time to think to formulate a plan but knew that it was futile. His face felt wet as he watched the creature explode in a flash of red implaling all caught with the blast.

Kina rose from the stump of a log checking her person if she was injured only to feel a rush of cold. Coldi had erected a wall of ice shielding them from the shards of blood. "Aww i was hoping it hit ya'll" kina said picking up her leg of lamb wiping the mud from it.

"As*hole" coldi said dispelling her wall of ice. She looked on as durba screamed and cried for the loss of his brother for the second time. "Its ok durz its ok... Kina laughed in amusment as coldi rushed to help her, she couldn't help but be amused by luke being felled by her lunch

"Kina its not that funny to be this hurt zera might not be able to help durba is still injured himself" coldi said worried

"I killed so one with a bone... My lunch how could i not laugh" she said smiling until seeing luke weakly rise to his feet smiling. "I'm going to kill him" she whispered having come to the conclusion he was unharmed and gave her the victory.

"Well little kina i think your going to be a interesting woman in twenty years and probably my wife" luke said freigning injury and limped to where his compatriots stood

Act 294: false savior

Sevas circled a bound and gagged little girl dragging his riding crop across her budding body. "You cost me a fair amount of coin you and your brother... I took you lot in after your sister became my apprentice and i was most generous in allowing you to stay after she never returned from her quest..." sevas said lightly tapping the young girl with his crop.

A boy no more than ten struggled in his chair falling to the floor. "Master sevas it was my fault please leave her alone and punish me instead." the boy cried his voice crackling dueto adolescence.

The girl tore through her gag spitting blood from biting her lip. "Gend shut up! Please master don't punish him... I'll make you feel good... Like sister did... Just don't throw us out we will do better next time promise." the girl said begging for mercy.

"I intend to breed soldiers not sexual misfits , i nor any of my compatriots dally as such. But i digress." sevas said digusted and walled to the window seeing the moons take a lavender hue." I need hunters, soldiers and scholars. War with the qunari not going in our favor no matter how the magisters croak..."

"Yes we understand master please just don't hurt susa it's my fault! I should've watched her flank" gend said pleading. Sevas sighed finally reached his temperament, pulled a fine needle that took on the light of the moon.

"Gend you listen too much its a detriment... I am a fair man and punishments must always fit the crime... Your sister is absolved... " sevas said sliding the needle into gend's ear.

Susa looked away and sang a nursery rythmm she heard to drown out the sounds of gends screams as his ears were punctured. She felt guilt and agony for not protecting her younger brother feeling his pain through their bond as twins. "Stop... Make it stop..." she pleaded as sevas wiped the blood and wax from his needle and wave his hand to stop the bleeding.

Gend tried as he might to listen to sevas warn him to never disobey a command, but nothing but silence.

Susa made odd gestures to gend as he gave her a blank stare. It had been three years since his deafening and instead of their master keeping his word of one day teaching them to read and write he made their education dedicated to war and tatics, forcing them to create their own language. "Okay this sign is wait." susa said making a backward fist "and what is that?"

Gend made a circle around his heart and extended his hand to her. " i love you" he said awkwardly his voice distorted unable to moderate it. Susa wanted to laugh at the way he sounded but stayed her laughter grateful to hear his voice after three years.

Susa held her brother fighting back tears "i love you too big guy" she said. Their moment of bliss was interrupted by the sneers of the other children and adults "what are you looking at mind your business" she said shielding her brother from their eyes.

Gend made another odd gesture telling her to calm down he pulled her to the combat room telling her it was time for their practice time

Susa held her arm trying to set the bone at having it been broken. She knew it would have been worse had gend not took the blunt of it all against the mage that they were assigned to kill. "Stupid lummox.." she whispered careful not to wake him despite knowing he couldn't hear her. She knew why she was in a foul mood and it wasn't due to her arm.

Susa looked at gend who slept peacefully, he was all she had in her horrid existence ,forced to fight against other children and adults who had magic that would one day kill them both. She knew something had to be done. "Don't worry little brother... Just sleep... I will free us both no more fights without our say.. " she said kissing his cheek knowing how she felt was perverse and immoral. That night the servas was burned for all minrathous to see no one but her and her brother would survive those flames.

" no death is too good for you... You want soldiers old man... Well you got us" susa said nodding for gend to follow her to the arena as the crowd roared for more

susa cracked her hand letting the air between her joints relax her hand. She steeled her nerves as she watch gend draw his sword from his back playfully teasing him that he was compensating for his lack of bedroom prowess.

Gend gave her simple gesture waving his hand and pointed to their former master. "No change in plan gend... Lets just humiliate him but first this job" susa said notching her arrow pointing it to sevas threateningly

Tiberius walked into the arena whistling sharply drawing their attention. "Ladies and gentlemen I hear you demand entertainment." he said boastfully calling to the audience. He spun his staff above him dramically taunting the siblings "I shall do my best to entertain my adoring fans"

The twins looked to each other confused by the immaculatly dressed man's display. "Well isn't he fancy" susa said reaiming her bow. Gend charged at Tiberius angling his blade to his side cutting down resistance to the inertia.

Tiberius threw his staff into the mud letting gend's blade lodge itself into his shoulder. The crowd whispered confused to how Tiberius let the blade reach him, tiberius merely pushed the blade from him bits of stone falling. "Well are we done... We are a man down" Tiberius said to a confused gend.

"Stoneflesh.."gend thought as he jumped back and assumed a more aggressive stance. Sweat dropped from his brow as he watched Tiberius circled around him knowing that the foolish facade he presented himself was a carefully laid strategy.

" come now the audience cries for a show..." Tiberius cooed lunging to gend but never getting near him. He heard the wind tear near him, dodging susa's arrows he waved his hand gently conjuring a wall of fire obstructing her vision

"Mage bastard" susa hissed firing a volley of arrows rapidly while gend swung his greatsword at Tiberius. Gend roared bringing his sword to his foe ,Tiberius caught his sword with his hand gripping the blade til the steel cracked and splintered.

"So ladies and gentlemen are you excited yet! Sword catching stirr your desires yet" Tiberius said rousing the crowd to cheer for his next act. "Then watch what i Tiberius Silius will grant you a elaborate show watch as I prove my prowess for your amusement" he said winking at gend and ripping his blade from and throwing it to the crowd.

"Gend move!" susa shouted at him sensing Tiberius's demeanor changing. Gend blocked Tiberius's fist grunting as his flesh burned and turned black, Tiberius grappled with the large man throwing him the ground ,his average build belied a above average strength.

Susa fired the last of her arrows distracting him from finishing gend. The arrows emedded themselves into his chest, Tiberius friened injury falling back against the wall "damn i really liked this blouse mother got it" he thought taking the arrows from his chest his skin hardening to stop the light bleeding.

Susa made a gesture asking if gend was alright after rushing to his side. "I'm fine su just relax" gend said standing up, his mind racked itself trying comprehend what Tiberius was having never seen magic he commanded "stoneflesh hardens the body but his strength is insane as his command over fire.." gend thought to himself drawing his dagger.

Tiberius saw zera in the stand looking intently hoping her friends wouldn't be harmed beyond her capabilities. "Watch as I prove i am who you belong with" he said dramatically extending his hand snapping his finger "ladies and gentlemen the show must come to a end but fear not the show has yet to truly begin" he said bowing to susa and gend

"Oh this guy is just a pricy-" susa said until seeing the ground erupt beneath her and fire exploding under her. The force of the explosion sent the archer into the air smoldering as she hit the ground shattering her bones.

"SUSA!" gend shouted rushing to her, she groaned and swore as gend crandled her knowing that her bones felt if they where shattered then reassembled then shattered again. Tiberius snapped his finger making shards of ice form infront of him "good bout twins of the dark" Tiberius said releasing the razor sharp shards at the siblings

Gend shielded susa grunting as ice tore his skin and punctured his body "you always looked out for me... Now i do the same" he thought refusing to let a shard harm his sister. The crowd cheered as susa called for a surrender ,her chance at proving sevas wrong dashed she carried only for gend's condition who wheezed and struggled to breath. "Damn it... We lost..." susa said dragging her hand through the mud.

"And that is it til tomorrow my fair audience my companions require rest and preparation so lend me one final day and you will see what house silius has to offer" Tiberius shouted , he glared at monkai mouthing he saw nothing yet and their petty contest would be coming to a end very soon

Act 296: master and apprentice

monkai sat on a ledge listening to the captivating sound that came from the leyline. He found meditating near the odd boundaries soothing allowing him to contemplate his life. "Compassion?" he said hearing a familar voice but realizing it was just wind, he wiped his face staring melancholic at the leyline that shined brighter than any hue he seen.

"So i heard i have a niece?" coldi asked teasingly interrupting his solitude. She poked him with her staff chiding him for not taking preventative measures " i think you told me to use withstalk sap and brandy when me and Timaeus where rutting tsk tsk"

"Your loving this aren't you?" monkai said smiling to his ward. It had been four years since he had taken her in and treated her as his sister, he worried that their relationship would have become romantic but found it was just her flirtatious demeanor. "I have something to tell you kid"

Coldi raised her brow seeing him smile instead of his usual scowl " your not thinking of mounting me here in the mud are you? Well sorry Timaeus and i are talking again-" coldi said before monkai raised his hand giving her a scroll

"Nothing so cliche but quite fortuitous. Don't tell z but i looked into hotus's condition, it merely a magical rebound brought from.. Well it's technically a curse from what i saw but that scroll carries a stablizing element he will live but still look like ****" monkai said smiling and closing his eyes listening to the song.

"So thats the big news well that's lackluster" coldi joked she stifled a smile for her friend knowing she would finally have something to help him. She saw his smile darken "theres something else... I hate secrets"

Monkai chuckled standing up trying not to have mud stain his boots "yeah... I'm not well.. Since my separation from my... The spirit i have had shortness of breath and been coughing blood. I checked with one of aurelia's healers.. Its pthisis or so they say its hasn't gotten better. I left my estate to you,the kid and zera, i need you to tell her when i pass.. I ruined her life.. I don't need to burden her with whatever i have" he said leaving back to his tent taking his pipe from his sash " dying anyway.. Might as well enjoy a smoke" he thought ignoring coldi's demands for him to stop.

Coldi waved her hand conjuring a wall of ice before him "so just like that... You arbitrarily decide what happens! Last i checked pthisis is treatable... What about your promise to protect zera ,what about your bastard, kina, miri, and... Me" Coldi shouted demanding a answer unable to immediately process his declaration. She saw the signs that something was amiss, he slept less and often looked like he wanted to laugh but didn't. "Answer me rivaini!"

Monkai merely chuckled giving her a slight smile " Your a ragin.. You will be fine you all will. I'm just a foreigner that got lucky.. Your my legacy. Ragins aren't purely a bloodline.. We are a cause, family, and idea" he said dispelling the wall of ice and continuing back to his tent.

Monkai let out a small cough due to the cold hardening his lungs, he knew telling coldi the way he did was selfish and irresponsible at best but it had to be done. "Hehe I'm just like the geezer.. Forcing my will upon others expecting them to obey." he whispered slightly amused by how the maker deceloped a sense of humour however macabre. He saw Tiberius wave his hand to three mages to enter the arena, it was there he realized he knew little of the man aside from his social status and his unique spellcraft. He wondered if they could have been friends in another life or perhaps this one if he hadn't been so preoccupied with keeping his life.

Coldi nudged his shoulder as she entered the arena with him. "I told her.. She is not pleased..." she said having told zera due to her hatred of secrets however benign.

"Figured hehe.. Well we will talk about it all when we get back." monkai said unsurprised at her honesty, he was overcome with a sense of relief that she knew "i probaby told you cause you would anyway..."

Coldi looked at the garbed mages brandishing the seal of house silius. She closed her eyes focusing her senses "they are weaker than us.. Probably last minute additions"

Monkai smiled slightly proud of her ability to gauge their foes. "With that coldi you have finished your training. Its been a honour teaching you despite my poor methods. Thank you"

Coldi scoffed at him refusing to accept that her training under him was ending "save your platitudes ******* your not dying.. After i help Timaeus your next til then conjure some spell and end this." she said tearing the sack on her staff and forming a blade at the neck.

Monkai chuckled at her determined words knowing she was just as stubborn as he was. "Fair enough" he thought conjuring entropy in his palm and throwing it to the mages exploding in a flash of blue light

Act 297: finale

Tiberius watched monkai and coldi fight his comrades it was a melody of spellcraft and resolve that the crowd roared for more. But he saw monkai was different than the fool who arrogantly stormed in and ruined his wedding causing a large disturbance and was now just a man that struggled to keep up with mages that were lesser than them both. "Why do you hold back... Your trained in both spirit magic and sword but you lack both your weapon and your not as flamboyant." he said to himself hearing footsteps come from behind him

"Milord you should be getting ready" luke said taking a seat beside him.

"You should be resting my friend you may have thrown the match but at maker's salvation you should at least look hurt.." Tiberius playfully chided his retainer.

Luke chuckle somewhat amused by his master discovering his ploy. "Nothing gets past you does it prig"

Tiberius laughed heartly shoving him off the the steps catching him when he fell. "Nope but you know what they say one who sees all is the one who can't"

"Making up idioms again milord tsk most unbecoming." luke said hiding his smile. He looked to the battle below seeing coldi erect a wall of ice to shield her master as he recovered. "Truely thats the son of naraas beerus ragin... I am disappointed."

Tiberius cocked his brow confused to the conversation. "Who?"

"The imperial knight twenty years or so back that was murdered by a elf? It was all the news then" luke said surprised that he didn't know of monkai's lineage until clapping his hand "the author of that horrid novel you read weekly "

Tiberius nodded in acknowledgement "its not horrid its mediocre at best and i see.. Well I'm less than entertained now..." he said upon seeing monkai and coldi victorious. He saw monkai wheeze and glare at him his eyes intent on challenging him "there they are those eyes.. May not be beautiful like before but they have the same intensity..."

Luke sighed in defeat "you do love your little games milord i will let the magister know you are ready"

Tiberius stood before monkai straighting his coat and basking in the audience's approval of his appearance having become the favorite.

"My aren't you popular" monkai said to him.

"Of course... I am the pride of the covenant three time winner and all... Now let's give my crowd a show for the ages." Tiberius cooed, he pulled his finger beckoning for monkai to take the first move.

Monkai threw a bolt of entropy toward him knowing he would coat his flesh to stone. Tiberius yawned dusting his coat after each of monkai's spells waving them away.

"Come now lad show me what you really are... Your among friends" Tiberius said slamming his fist into the ground conjuring a wall of flame nearly engulfing monkai. Monkai jumped to his right throwing a bolt of entropy wishing he hadn't left his sword in the garden having grown dependant on it for his magic.

"**** I'm getting tired.. Has my reserves always been this low" monkai thought gasping for breath. He knew tiberius was toying with him just as he did with gend and susa, he bowed to the audience calling for their ear.

"My adoring fans i know that you travel with guards and i have but the most humble request i ask that you grant me simple blade so that i may show you the prowess of a imperial knight" Tiberius said causing the audience to whisper curious to whom he spoke of. "Yes ser ragin is a knight in training who lost his weapon slaying a demon in the forest lend my fellow combatant a sword"

Monkai stepped side to side avoiding being accidentally impaled by various soporati throwing their weapons around him. Tiberius waved his hand telling him to pick weapon each different in design and function "guy is just showboating" monkai said picking up a sword noting it's craftsmanship being rivaini but had the bret family seal "hmph still looking after me " monkai whispered.

Tiberius parried monkai's strikes with his palm his flesh hardening at each strike. His blood pulsed at seeing monkai come at him dodging his fists that erupted with fire in one and ice in the other. "Yes yes bloody yes thats what i want come at me with all your might!"

Monkai dashed to Tiberius blurring to barely the crowd could see him, swinging his blade he caught tiberius's arm severing the muscle. "Your.. Little trick... It's based on tolerance " he said gasping and reassuming a aggressive stance "form two magister's fang " he thought remembering lucius's instruction.

Tiberius moved his arm smiling as his wound closed. "Well done master ragin most well done most assume I'm invincible but its merely reinforcement... But now you know its time to end this i will show you that i am the perfect mage" he said conjuring a geyser of fire.

Monkai darted from the erupting geysers moving in blurs each time unable to close in on him due to a wall of ice. He screamed as Tiberius froze his leg after missing a glyph he set " **** not good!" he thought trying to move seeing the cracj that formed .

"Au diue my friend" Tiberius said snapping his finger. He snapped his finger again only for nothing to happen. "What in blazes" he said upon seein his magic to be silenced.

"Fun thing to know.. You may be the perfect mage.. But i have friends that transcends your power." monkai said smiling to kara who mouthed "go" to him. Monkai looked to the stands seeing coldi, zera ,kina, durba ,and kara even gend and susa cheering him on to move. Monkai ran to Tiberius infusing his blade with mana that cackled with power and slashed him down his left side.

Tiberius glared at monkai furious at having lost but euphoric in having lost to him. He held his side trying to staunch his bleeding but felt dry "hahamwhahahaha clever coward..." he said falling down.

"I know i hate killing..." monkai said laughing before dropping his sword and falling into the mud, his eyes felt heavy as he saw zera run to him screaming to see if he was alive.

"Kai wake up wake up" zera pleaded. Monkai pointed tiberius begging her to help him.

Act 298: epilogue

Monkai awoke in his bed days after his brief but draining battle with Tiberius. He remembered telling zera to help him but darkness afterward, he pulled the sheets from himself seeing his leg bandaged due to frostbite "well hopefully i will be able to walk" he said limping to the dresser to find a shirt.

"Oh goodie my favorite fool is alive" Tiberius cooed making himself known after monkai not noticing him. Monkai conjured a ball of mana readying himself for another bout only for Tiberius to laugh "easy abomination... I'm only here to check in on you. Quite a mess you were. Bleeding ,frostbitten, and fading in and of consciousness. Thought i killed my rival."

Monkai went back to looking for his shirt wincing as his leg pained him his nerves possibly damaged. "Well it was a draw last i remember and dying comes in many meaning. So you might have" he said finally picking the proper shirt. They heard the door open showing zera with her hair ruffled and looked exhausted.

"Oh thank the maker your alive. Starting to get cross with your habit of nearly dying having to patch you back up." zera said slapping her lover for making her worry and then punching him breaking his nose after. "And thats for making coldi your errand girl and disclosing your secret"

Monkai snapped his nose back into place summoning his magic to heal his nose "yeah I'll take the blame for that.... Did we get the staff"

Tiberius laughed at their domestic quarrel reminding him of a orlaisan comedy. "The staff is with sevas until next year codger is quite stiff on his rules"

"Guess draws don't count then. No matter our agreement will have wait til the next year i suppose" zera said pushing her hair back.

Tiberius bowed polity "of course milady more time to woo you.. Maybe even the rivaini" he said winking successively to them both.

Monkai began to escort him to the entrance of the house " thats enough lover boy see later hopfully in the void"

" au'diue my fair fools. I shall return quite soon." Tiberius said before the door was slammed in his face. Monkai felt a warm embrace that held him tightly

"You feeling better.. I tried to treat it..." zera said nuzzling her face in his back.

"I'm fine still short of breath but maybe sex might help" monkai said laughing

Zera smiled at his proposition "dying for sex are you.." zera said gripping his manhood and kissing his neck hoping that he was just overreacting regarding his health.

Coldi drew a arcane sigil on hotus ,struggling to make the ink visible so she could see properly. "There all done.." she said finishing.

Hotus looked at his skin the black masses coming up to his neck and covering his left arm and right leg. "Louise you sure this will work.. I tried everything" hotus said fighting back a cough.

"Relax I'm a medium with medical training just shut it. Cause if this works we might be friends again maybe even sex." coldi said channeling her magic into the sigil making glow red and then green finally blue. Hotus retched himself falling to his knees vomitting black bile each time feeling if his organs where being expelled but relief that his body became lighter and the black masses beginning to recede.

"By the maker i think it worked" hotus said rising to his feet vomiting more bile into a basket.

Coldi wiped her nose blood dripping from the strain of using magic she was unfamiliar with "wonderful maybe now you will lighten up and treat me to dinner."

Hotus held her hand "what time.. There's a new cafe that has eel chowder"

"You and eels.. Disgusting creatures" coldi said punching his shoulder

Galatea stood outside the wh*res gambit overseeing its renovation to operate as both a source of income and base to be used as a haven for her fellow revolutionaries. She sighed looking at the sun "it seems like the adventure is finally over.. " she said melancholic at the revelation of monkai deciding to retire from the puplic eye.

"Oyi giantess i finished delivering the fliers for the bar can i get my coin" kina said nudging the robust woman and extending her palm out.

Galatea saw the wind blow and piece of parchment hitting her face. "Hey you little runt you just threw this in the trash" she said putting kina in a choke hold and rubbing her hand into head.

Kina tapped her arm in surrender apologizing for attempting to con her. "I yeild i yeild" she said smiling at finally feeling as if she was home.

Susa and gend stood before sevas's old manor holding each other's hand. The covenant was somewhat a wake up call for them. For years they held bitterness that trapped them making become hired killers on some days and other days simple farmers

"Ready gend... The chantry's class on reading is starting" susa said smiling and throw a match into the ruined manor.

"Yes... Lets move on..." gend said throwing his own match into the rubble wanting to put his grief behind him and use the skills for another purpose other than murder or strong arming others.

Kara sat in aurelia's office smoking her pipe wearing a pink gown that relieved the pressure over budding stomach. She threw her pipe out the window deciding it might be bad for the child that grew in her and instead took her dosage of lyrium.

"I always wondered what would happen if a mother imbibed lyrium during pregnancy. Would it be a addict or merely a potent mage" Aurelia said entering her office she glared at kara detecting the smell of kohl. "Maker that smell is horrid"

Kara looked at her taking a deep breath "deed is done ma'am the legacy has been preseved. I will require financial compensation"

"For you and the child or your mother" aurelia asked, her tone cross due to being extorted.

"My mother. I have my own resources but to cover mother.. I need your aide" kara said her tone relaxed hiding her nervousness

Aurelia chuckled at how she had the gall to extort her. "You are a odd girl.. Acts like a southerner and then acts like a proper tevinter... Alright.. I will make sure she is tended too. Now about my prize is the staff on its way"

"Yes agents have it and shall be here tomorrow." kara said rubbing her stomach

Durba looked at her confused by her speech that sound like gibberish and looked to the elf for clarification "my wife asks what you need the ship for master darkon." elara said

Durba pulled a pouch of coins throwing them to elara. "No question thats five hundred sovereigns take me to braga then leave me there..."

Dramis took the pouch shaking its contents greedily smiling in agreement to his demands "oyi scallywages get ovin braga awaits wh*res and rum for a week" she cried to the crew who rejoiced at their de facto captain's generosity.

Durba walked below deck and sat behind the crates of goods conveniently labeled to be sent to port braga. "I have been had... No matter.. I will be gone soon enough " he said pulling his hood to sleep his voyage away

Well after 298 chapters we are at a end to the tale of monkai ragin, thank you for your viewership and challenging my writing skills (even if the last 150 seems a bit boring and jarring).
