Personality & History :
History: Caius is the last living male member of house Vaellanius. Being a one of the Altus, the upper class, Caius has spent his life in luxury. His family is one of the oldest in the Imperium, one of the descendants of the dreamers. The family has waste farm fields of crops outside Minrathous, south of Silent Plains. A province ruled by the Vaellanius family through out the history. Their main income came from farming and mining industry, making them also the owners of numerous slaves.
His mother died giving birth to him. His father concentrated his whole effort to the boy when he noticed how natural talent the boy was with magic. He wanted the boy to bring house Vaellanius back from the brink of death.
Caius has inherited his fathers seat in the Magisterium after his death 15 years ago. Being a Magister of wealth and power his political influence is high among the political parties in the Imperium.
At early age of 20 he was wed to Mucia Florus, a daughter of Magister Manius Florus through a political deal. The terms of the deal required three children, whom would be part of house Vaellanius. For this the house Florus would get more influence and political power since house Vaellanius was considered to be more powerful and important. Due to the loveless marriage, Caius volunteered to fight in Seheron all his younger years to hone his combat skill to a maximum in order to kill his father. Caius also studied blood magic in the process determined to become a master of it.
The children of this marriage were conceived during Caius visits in the mainland. Since both Caius and Mucia despised each other, after the birth of the children she moved away to another estate owned by house Vaellanius. Now dead.
This all happened because as a young man Caius had fallen in love with a elven slave girl, Ashala. Their plans to elope were exposed, and in result Caius' father killed her and used her blood to do a blood ritual on Caius. To create a perfect Magister. Caius tried to fight his father in the bloody catacomb under his family tower in order to save her but he was defeated. There is only duty, duty for the Imperium and for the family was carved in Caius mind with her blood.
While Caius was honing his skills in Seheron his father was murdered due to a political strife. He had escaped Caius reach and therefore Caius had to find a new target for his hate. The qunari. Later a Vashoth woman Nazlik of Beres-taar was brought into the house Vaellanius as a slave. She and Caius became lovers over the years, despite the blood ritual done to him. Caius is also a worshiper of the Old Gods in secret, one of his pursues to find power.
All his life magic has been the only true fried to Caius. From his early age his trainers saw his potential when he became a member of Minrathous Circle. He could never understand why some of his fellow students had to struggle so much with magic, as it came naturally to him. Caius could wield complex spells early on which made even some of his tutors jealous.
Due to the events in his life Caius concentrated on the combat magic along with seeking mastery of blood magic. He aquired a wide range of skills from many magical schools required in the battlefields of Seheron. Elemental, Force and Blood magic, in which he became a master. He even took time to learn spells from the Creation and Spirit schools for combat application.
He also learned Necromancy in hopes of finding a way to revive Ashala.
Personality: Due to the blood ritual Caius younger personality, the live, friendly, positive, equality believing liberal person has changed. He is now a dark and bitter person. He values power above anything else, almost. He doesn´t wear armor or swords, his power provides for both. Any mage using them is a weak mage in his mind.
He does blood rituals sacrificing slaves for power and has a personal desire demon to deal with. He is brutal and can kill on a whim. Murder is nothing but a tool. He does maintain good manners with his dealings and has acquired a lot of political power in the Magisterium. Bribes, threats, duels, murders, his tools. Still, Caius can be friendly, and even helpful if he thinks it benefits himself.
Caius is patriotic, he wants to see the Imperium rule Thedas once more. But he is a patriotic in a pragmatic way. He detests people like the Venatori, for he thinks they betrayed Tevinter by allying with a darkspawn. He would try to kill Corypheus given a change.
He is a firm believer of enforced rules, for others, not himself. He sees others, even Magisters, inferior to himself. Likes to wear black robes, with silver protective runes. So far Caius has not come across anyone as strong in magic as he is. Of which he is proud. Caius has his fingers in many shady affairs, he has a network of agents working for him. Along with his own personal army.
His power and wealth, along with his political influence made him a wanted guest in the many balls of Minrathous. Still Caius has only hand full of people who could vaguely call him a friend. In his own manor, surrounded by two set of perimeter walls and guards, he usually spends his time in his tover studying magic, gaining power. Surrounded by the ancient tomes and artifacts. Plotting his next move. He was alone among the large household. Even with his daughters. Until the Vashoth woman Nazlik came into his life. For peace and quiet he would climb to his tower chamber and sit in the balcony watching Minrathous by the night.
Caius is a scarred man, inside out. His physical scars from the many battles in Seheron and his mental scars from his life give the frame to the man he is.
His true love with the Vashoth woman is practically his only weak point which he guards carefully. He loves her with passion, almost on a maniac level. A kind of echo of his love with the elven slave girl and her fate. This makes him a bit split personality, the fragments of the boy he once was mingle with with Magister he is.
Nazlik of Beres-taar is the balancing power, bringing more gentle view of the world to him. She is a kind soul and sees through the Magister he is now, and what he used to be. She came into his life after his father had died and Caius had become a Magister when the blood ritual was already loosing it´s grip. During the years she was close to him the blocks of the blood magic ritual finally vanished giving him completely back his memories of what had transpired, and leaving Caius open for love once again. Caius felt the connection to her at the very beginning treating her better than other slaves. There was something that caught his attention. Slowly she broke through his shelve teaching him to love again.
She is 6,10 ft tall. 33 years. She has light bronze skin, silver eyes, long and lustrous white hair and small curvy horns which bend backwards. As a dual wielding rogue she acts a bodyguard for Caius, a cover up for their relationship.
