Well I hate action RPGs, I hate(d) Geralt, I hate fixed protagonist, specially a male one, I hate open world (like a lot), I also hate Witcher mechanics even considering an action game.
So Bioware disappointed me so much with Inquisition that I found strength in me to go through Witcher 3 main quest (I ended up doing a lot of Geralt's friends quests not sure if I did only the required or not, I really didn't bother).
So first things first, when it comes to gameplay please be a lot less like Witcher 3. Inquistion is way too much action, so don't even touch Witcher series disgusting gameplay.
Second thing, forget open world, no matter if infinite engine, elder scrolls or Witcher 3, it is the worst idea even conceived by mankind, or any other sentient being for that matter. But if you do, if you ever think of punishing me with open world again, learn from Witcher 3. Witcher 3 open world is so much amazing than Inquisition's that even hating it completely I could at least understand why some people like it. From fauna and flora to people and cities Witcher's 3 world is so much more alive than Inquisition's that it is like comparing a desert under the curse of death (Inquisition) to a party with fairies, nymphs, fauns and driads in a tropical forest blooming with the colors of life itself (Witcher 3). So yeah, when comparing the 2 games Bioware screwd really hard, so much it hurts. I didn't realize Inquisition opren world was that poor until I played Witcher 3.
Now let's talk main character. I knew absolutely nothing about Witchers, it came to me as a surprise that Witchers supposedly have no feeling because OMG Geralt is way too much expressive when comapring to the Inquisitor. Geralt's poker face, and I mean if he is putting effort into looking like a robot have more feeling than the most feeling intense Inquisitor scene. Inquisitior is so tranquil that Geralt can't touch this, perhaps if you "witchered" Geralt again and gave him a lobotomy and facial paralysis he could be as boring as the Inquisitor, of course, only if neither Yennefer nor Ciri is around (arguably Keira, Triss and others too).
Moving on to companions. Ok this is the only thing Bioware did and does right. But even in this matter DAI loses hard to Witcher 3. Now let's see why. DAI companions are way more interesting, they are less "normal", they have more unique struggles and are better written, so how the hell Witcher 3 wins? Because the way "companions" (since they are not really companions) are tied into the main quest makes them better. The wonderful way the story happends make them all part of the quest in a way that you feel them even if you were not interested in them at all (my case since I knew nothing about the story having barely touched Witcher 1 and hated it completely).
Before moving on to the next point I'd like to say that NPCs, all of them, are a lot more alive than Inquisition NPCs. Even the random exclamation mark NPCs to give you quests are more alive. The NPCs made feel like talking to a person instead of the robots in Inquisition (and I used to think Bioware was great at it... perahps Bioware WAS... a long time ago in a faraway galaxy...)
Now, the main quest. THAT is a main quest, one deserving my time (a lot more time than Inquisition's). The quest made me travel and do **** I didn't want, but that felt important, necessary to the plot. I knew the world and lore (again I knew nothing about the series) not because I had curiosity but because it was asked of me, but it did not feel like a burden, the game made it interesting. See I hate the game, never gonna touch it again, not my style, but Witcher 3 made me want to like playing action games, I felt sorry for hating action games and losing such a wonderful game. I wish I could play Ciri so that I would not be disgusted by roleplaying a man and perhaps I could enjoy the game. But it doesn't matter, the thing is that the game is amazing, so wonderful that even hating it, not for a second I felt bored, burdened ou demotivated, on the contrary I felt compeled to endure the awfulness of an action game (why did satan brought this game genre upon us, god almighty of turn based RPG save us all) to savor that awesome story and awesome world and awesome characters.
I played Inquisition as a job, a very disgusting job, and honestly after finishing my "perfect save" (which took me a couple of tries, meaning finishing the game, deciding that was not what I was looking for and finishing again till I say, yeah, that is MY character, talk about perfectionism) I couldn't make myself finish the "second" save because, I don't know exactly why, but probably because I hated the game completely. Witcher 3 is not my answer, way too much things I hate in the game mechanics and a lot of lacking of things I love in both game mechanics and character creation, but when it comes to the world, the characters and the story Witcher 3 is everything I wanted Inquisition to be.
Oh, and I was forgetting... People are liars if they say Witcher 3 women are not interesting. They are indeed heavily sexualized in most cases but they are very deep. I do prefer Inquisition take on women as a concept, but when it comes to the execution of the idea Witcher 3 did better women. From the posh, fancy and vain sorceress to the fierce Cerys Witcher 3 had a good variety on women. However I would never deny the machist nature of the game, to the point of being very offensive to a feminist like me. Perhaps feminism is the ONLY thing Bioware does better than other companies these days... and that's sad because I wish feminists didn't have to choose between a good and a feminist game, if Bioware stopped screwing DA series perhaps we could have both.
(Even Bioware games are not there yet, but when it cames to RPGs I guess that's the best we have)
I knew Bioware looking agressively on Skyrim would ruin DAI, and it did, but please Bioware look agressively into Witcher 3 for the next DA game. I hate action games and I hate open world, but Witcher 3 cause me less pain and boringness than Inquisition, so I'm willing to bear the pain of what Witcher 3 have of awful if it means getting what Witcher 3 have of AWESOME.
