Yeah the title is sarcastic.  I know that most people just pick the boring human but letting your players be different races is a big deal for a lot of fans.  It would defiantly help push ME:A which will be a good game into a great game.

I don't understand the huge desire to play aliens.  The aliens are pretty much all Rubber Forehead aliens anyway,

That's just the thing. It's not a 'huge' desire. It's just a very loud minority. And I'm all the more baffled at their insistence for just that very reason: ME aliens aren't interesting or unique. At all. And even if, by some miracle, BioWare made a genuinely fascinating and different alien species, playing as them would be counter-productive. It would be like playing a Yithian in Call of Cthulhu.

Being human IS boring in a game full of aliens. However, my thing as stated above was more about the personality.

But all the aliens are just less diverse knock-off humans. There's nothing non-human about them apart from their appearance.

But you like to always play the generic human that is already featured as protagonist in like, litterally all games. People don't really want to play them because of their design, but more or less of how awesome Turians and Krogan for example were in the original trilogy.

How are they "awesome", exactly?

Turians are scaly humans with mandibles and tend to have sticks up their butts.

Krogan are tough, toad-like humans who like to fight.

Appearances aside, what do they have you can't put on a human character?

there were some species with some hope for this such as the salarians with their non-hormone based reproduction or the rachni with the Queen/worker distinctions

but alas they panned out rather poorly

I like human only Mass Effect. I don't have to worry about stripped out content because of Shepard needing to be 3 other races and the game having to accommodate for all of them even when it makes no sense.

Especially considering the aliens are reskinned damn humans anyway.

Heck the geth had aspects of this, before they went all Pinocchio on us.

Every "alien" culture is just a riff on a non-Western culture. In fantasy settings it means that the non-humans are basically all the non-Western European cultures. In science fiction it means that all the non-humans are all the non-liberal democracies.

The Ranchi are a good illustration: hive-minded insects that only have organic technology and no ck concept of race, gender and politics as we understand it are "alien".

I want to play other races someday, but it depends on the story.

Story, story, story.

Etc.. That's all that matters.

I don't understand just drawing some line on wanting to play another race for the sake of it though. Write the story first, then I'll gladly play it. And if this story is meant for humans, then that's what their choice will be. I might not have full faith in Bioware yet, but I trust that the developers aren't complete retards and make decisions for a reason. Human Only must fit the story they have in mind for now.

I support human only characters with human only love interests depicting the great patriotic human achievement of bringing civilization and culture to all non-humans in the Andromeda galaxy, teaching them to adopt ideas and economic systems that are egalitarian for humans and their cultures, bringing humans resources and power to help build and strengthen our ascent to the stars, where we can truly achieve our destiny.

Nah, it doesn't need to be an American thing.

That said, I do believe that Americans need to be first among equals and to be the decisive player in the future space programs and exploration.

It comes with being me. In most ways, I'm a subversion and critic of American patriotism. In other ways (like in the game for example), if the world has to be saved, it has to be saved by an American.

Or we could go with the Interstellar route, where all non-Americans are dead. Which works just as well, except no more Australian/English/Scandinavian women :(

Well, let's just say that that part of the Midwest is more like Canada-lite. And in the 'holy crap, this land is flat and there aren't even any wheat fields or plants for miles.'

Who the hell lives in North Dakota?

Welp, this hippy killed himself plenty of ISIS hobos!

It should actually bring a tear to the American eye.

All you have to do is imagine you're playing with another race. The impact on the story will be the same, but it won't take any resources away from other parts of the game.

I'm fine with playing as a human, in fact, I prefer it. In the MP , I'd rather be a Drell adept with cluster + reave + pull

Well, in fairness, geth society's state after the Rannoch arch, provided they survived, was kind of vague. The only thing we were aware of was that each program became an independent entity. Likely their society could function exactly the same as it did in the past; they just don't have to worry about a reduction in capacity when in smaller numbers.

A truly alien protagonist wouldn't work because we couldn't relate to them. This is also the reason why most aliens in the game show human behaviour.

Those were the days! Gaming ingenuity was great. Being sincere here. :)

As long as the story is made right and the protagonist feel like a sapient alien capable of love, fear, friendship, rage and trust then I'm fine with an alient only protagonist. I would love being a turian in ME for example.
