I got to thinking about a new weapons being added within the upcoming Multiplayer patch/dlc, and it got me wondering if they'll add weapons that can only be obtained by beating the Dragon on Nightmare (or maybe whatever boss it is for the Deep Roads map). If they were to add a weapon, what would be good enough to justify the grief and the amount of time it takes it goes through such a difficulty.

I would think, at a minimum, it would need to have at least 3 Mastercrafted Abilities, at least 50 Damage points higher than those of the Hakkon weapons, and a good number of base stat bonuses.

Well I put that very rare cotton on my Hakkon Greatsword yesterday to give me 11 Willpower, I had 6 and it took 6/6, so maybe in another 6 months I can upgrade another item XD

It doesn't have to be more powerful. It could be something like a butterfly rune that let you shot rainbows from staffs and bows.

you only need one masterwork to be worth it.

hidden blades on hit.

its been a while since ive played single player.

the best one was 5 hits at 100 or 250 weapon damage. or something like that.

That sounds pretty game breaking. Weapons which could make Heartbreaker easier would also trivialize Nightmare, and why would we want that to happen?

I'd prefer it if new weapons offered variety instead of making current weapons redundant, especially after all the grinding required to get them. Constant stat climbs don't make a game interesting.

Neither do buggy weapon abilities, for the record.

Probably went a overboard on the abilities part. I could see a weapon having one, but very powerful, mastercrafted ability.

I'd like endgame weapons with lower base damage than hakkon, but with unique game-changing procs that don't rely on chance (% chance to proc).

Inspired from this http://blog.bioware...._Abilities2.pdf

(which means it can be implemented easily)

Warrior 2H: (From PDF) Enhanced Basic Attacks: You now whirldwind. Like, all the time. That is all.

Warrior 1H: (From PDF) Enhanced Shield Wall: Every 5th block with Shield Wall causes massive damage to enemies in the area.

Rogue archer: Enhanced Basic Attacks: Each hit now staggers.

Rogue dagger: (From PDF) Enter stealth when not attacking during combat

Mage: (From PDF) Mana shield: All incoming damage reduces mana instead of health. Each % of mana absorbs up to x% of health damage when no barrier

As for the heartbreaker reward... The 20% CD reduction amulet from SP still hasn't made its way into MP ... luke??

Rather than higher damage numbers, weapons that let you tackle the layered defenses of Heartbreaker or counter the heavy cc aspect of the gameplay, things like a dispel proc on hit, or a shield that makes you immune to knockdown and a two hand that makes your abilities uninterruptible, or super buffs to guard damage or barrier. Maybe weapons that can prime or detonate combos in unusual ways. These kind of weapons would reward specialized team play with particular roles.

Alternatively, weapons with a "crushing blow" mechanic from D2 is often a frequent response to power creep. It would be the easiest route to let weapons have a chance to do a percentage of a monster's health in damage. The benefit would be that they would not trivialize lower difficulties like higher base damage weapons would do.

+150% Attack

20% extra damage for each enemy within 8 meters

Nameless Blade:

Base Damage: 180

+100% Armor Penetration

+150% Attack

+50 stamina on kill

10% Chance to cast Barrier on hit

Death Siphon

20% extra damage for each enemy within 8 meters
