I posted in the wrong section, so I try again.

Hi,

I'd like to ask some tips about building a character:  I want to make "a sort of"  Solid Snake character from Metal Gear games.      I was thinking something like a stealthy rogue with short blade, light armor and light crossbow.

Let's say:

Class: Rogue

Feats:  light armor, knockdown, quick to master, sneak attack, weapon proficiency (rogue), stealthy.

Skill: disable traps 3, Hide 7, move silently 7, parry 7, set trap 7, spot 3, tumble 7

Attribute: He needs dexterity, but also strenght and costitution for close combat I think.    Dex 17? strenght 15? Constitution 15?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Multiclassing is king imho for physical characters. I could see snake as some sort of rogue fighter hybrid. Maybe with a bit of shadow dancer to improve stealth gameplay. Or assassin for death attack.

For feats of course anything that enhances sneaking and fighting prowess. Just find a good mix of disabling abilities and high dps with whatever weapon(s) you prefer. If going crossbow, this is alone quote a feat investment. So the wiggle room may already be quote slim for additional feets.

Don't put any skill points in parry, it doesn't work.

I don't know the Metal Gear games and what a Solid Snake character is. But if you want to make a NWN rogue or something related, I have some experience with that. Maybe I can help you some. What module or PW do you want to play? Do you get items with high magical properties there? What levels will you play through?  Do you play PvM or PVP?

Thanks for parry tip, the database is interesting but It's very big to read.

@ildildild

Solid Snake is a high trained special operations soldier and his specialization is infiltration solo missions.     Usually He has a knife and small gun, He moves silenty in hostile territory, like a a thief.   Sometimes he makes knockdowns using martial arts, knife or silenced guns.   When He has them, and He need them, He uses stronger guns or ammunition.

I'd like to make a chara for a module from Lv 0 to Lv 20+,  PvM.  He will use custom items and no magic.  I'd like to have him high skilled with placing and disarming traps, close combat with knife,  crossbow and move silenty/hide.   I was thinking about a rogue class with these skills: disable trap, hide, move silenty, set trap, spot, tumble and heal (no parry anymore).    I dunno if he need a high level of Intelligence, I was thinking strength 14, dex 15, cost 14, int 14?, wis 10, char 10.   Feats: stealthy and knockdown.

sounds like a good start. you may want to think about switchíng heal for use magic device. sure it's magic, but then again this is a fantasy setting. use magic device it the DnD rogues all purpose skill, that lets yoir solit snake use all those neat little items he finds against his enemies (scrols, or bard instruments, class and alignment restricted equipment etc.).

take a look at the fighter class in NWN wiki:
http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Fighter
and especially the bonus feat list, from where you get to chose on figher lvl 1,2,4,6,8 etc.
http://nwn.wikia.com...ter_bonus_feats

maybe this can give you a few additional ideas about how you can design your Solid Snake (that sounds way more dirty than i thought)

also about crossbows:
http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Crossbow
maybe you might get happpier with bows or throwing darts as your ranged sidearm

Here is a Fighter/rogue build I have made that you can try if you want. It is a Level 30 build, but ok also if you only play to lvl 20 +.

I have given the character focus in short sword. Pick dagger if you want for RP reasons. It is a strong  melee character. Use Improved knockdown to get sneak attack damage vs prone enemies. And use/abuse HIPS as you please. You have all the skills you asked for, and some more. There is no focus on ranged weapons, but the dexterity alone will make ranged viable.

The character detects all standard deadly traps immediately, and can recover and set all deadly traps except the gas traps.

Thanks, very very interesting, my only concern is very oriented on sword/melee.

@Gruftlord

Thanks, but why more dirty? Just curiosity... out of place character in fantasy settings?

It is built for sneak attack damage. Then you have to be within 30 feet of your target, so you will end up in melee all the time. Most often you will be able to HIPS away though if the going gets too tough.
If you want, you can replace the toughness feat with point blank shot or rapid reload for your x-bow.
But ranged attack will work fine for ambushing from stealth and to lure your target across a field of traps the way the character is built alredy.

For more innuendo, you should see the former code name of another character, now called Big Boss, from the same series.
