Can we have those back? Those were pretty nice, and I imagine awesome for newer players.

I prefer it this way. If you get an item from a chest you can salvage it in a material and still have a chance at something decent that you can use.

The materials dropped in clumps of three though, triple that of a typical item in a chest.

Yeah it was back in the first few days of dragonslayer, and then it was removed by...I want to say public outcry but I can't remember. Might of just been a bug.
