Ok so this is still bugging me. Why when they tried to talk up their crafting system so much are there so many armor models in the game that we can't get? It is beyond frustrating when half the NPC's in the game can look awesome in this cool ass gear. But my character only gets to pick from like three different variants of the same damn armor. The model is already made and in the game. LET US USE IT!!!!
When you have a crafting system in your game don't make 90% of the ingame looks unavalible!

Yeah, we should have been able to pick the look of the armor separately, like how we now can tint armors without affecting the materials originally used.

When I started, I joked about how every NPC seemed to have better looking outfits than the Inquisitor.
Later on, I learned that it wasn't really a joke after all. I still wonder if it's some grand gag by the developers. "Yeah, this is the one that's going to save the world. And this is what they're wearing."

I'm pretty sad that they didn't patch in any schematics later or use them as dlc. I counted over two dozen armours/robes that npcs have and we can't equip. Even more if you include armour we can buy but don't receive schematics for (like the Inquisition armours). It really doesn't make any sense when these npcs have the same body model as our protag. Even if they race-gated it, that would mean qunari loses out but everyone else (especially human) would get more options. I'm fine with that, even aesthetic items add roleplay value for me.
And don't even get me started on that Skyhold outfit vs npc clothes...

I thought that the idea of the armor system in this game was that each character had a unique style so that, when they wore armor, they would tailor it to their own style. Granted, the Inquisitor's style is pretty crappy. There are really only two looks like that I like outside of the Legion of the Dead Armor. But I thought that's why the Quizzie only had a few looks to pick from; just like all of the other characters have their own 3-4 looks.

I'd love to be able to reverse engineer some of the unique armors. For roleplay purposes, I was really hoping to use the Dalish mage armor found in Exalted Plains for my Inquisitor Lavellan, but found the stats too low by the time I got there. I understand and am fairly neutral on my Inquisitor not being able to wear armor like Cassandra, or Vivienne (okay, less happy about not being able to utilize Vivienne's sense of style
), but the Inquisitor's look is sort of repetitive. I was rolling my eyes a little when I found my male qunari warrior wearing what essentially looked just like my female elf mage's armor. A little more variety could have been brought into at least differentiating the class armors, I feel. Hawke's champion armor was a good example of a unified front, but unique to each class, and I wish some of that variety had made it into the Inquisitor's basic armor.
