just like the headline reads what do you think the Devs might be going to do in the next DA game. Me I would like to keep using the Inquisitor for the next game.

Personally, I'd prefer a new protagonist because the Inquisitor is a boring sponge with no personality whatsoever. (Plus, a new game will have new LI's.)

But, that's not to say that the new protagonist won't be just as boring. I think it's a matter of whether or not Bioware is willing to be bold with the protagonists, once again.

While I would love to pick things up again with my Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor again at some point I would prefer that there be a new protagonist. With a new protagonist you get to start fresh, new companions, new environment, you get the license to forge a new identity in a new world(country) without being leashed to previously constructed origins and relationships. I feel, and this is mostly head canon, that each of my already established protagonist has a set personality that I would not be able to deviate from.

The loyalties, friends and decisions made in previous adventures kind of mark them and bind them to a certain path. Aside from my head canon there is the fact that each protagonist is a prominent figure in the world. Their rise to power, strength and fame wouldn't look cute at Lv.1 again. I think that if any protagonist were to return the game would have to be tailor made for their title. Sort of like Awakening or ME3.

You couldn't very well just drop the HOF or Herald into Nevarra with no resources and not expect them to call their army to help. There would have to be a setting that accommodated their position, previous decisions, relationships and resources. Severing all of that in a random calamity like in ME2 would be cruel. Like I said, I would love for this to happen but I would prefer to explore a new area with a fresh point of view.

I would have liked Hawke back but that's no longer an option. New protag it is!

New protagonist for the sake of fairness and to avoid a lot of potential bickering on this forum.

They didn't bring back the HoF. They didn't bring back Hawke. Both had and still have their supporters and the reason they gave was that DA series isn't a single character's story. Fine I buy that, and IMO the Inquisitor has finished his job sorting out the whole Mage-Templar-Chantry mess, making Orlais relatively stable again and rubbing out Cory in the bargain. So now it's time to move on to someone else for the next story.

It might even just be a thrall of the Inquisition but it shouldn't be the Inquisitor.

Even if you sacrifice the Warden, Hawke still "disappears"...

The Inquisitor does have very little that I would want to return to. Maybe have Skyhold as a part of the new areas and have a quest for the Inquisition(whatever the frick it is doing without Corypheus alive...) The Inquisition had one job and that job is over. Time for a new hero :).

the job of the inquisition is to restore peace to the world gone mad. so in that regard the job is not yet done. I would like to keep playing as my inquisitor and try to make thedas a better place

Nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks that is the point of the Inquisition forming in the first place. :D

I would prefer a new protagonist. There is no reason why the Inquisitor cannot continue doing what they are doing, like Hawke and the Warden, but we don't necessarily have to see that. A new protagonist adds more flavour, whereas continuing on with a pre-existing one keeps it fairly the same. If it doesn't, then the character has changed so much that you might as well have just made a new character to begin with.

Dragon Age has started fresh three different times already, I want them to go the Mass Effect route, using the same character for a trilogy, though I don't think the Inquisitor is the right choice, as others have pointed out he/she is too boring. Could have been done with Hawke imo, but his status is up in the air.

hmm for an on topic answer..

I'm torn. Do I want yet another protagonist who in the long run of the tale of Thedas will just get forgotten after they've finished their tiny role. Or do I want them to attempt to continue my Inquisitor still?

It all comes down to one issue. How long after the events of DAI will DA4 take place? if it is within 1-5 years after Cory being killed then Inquisitor please, it's too soon to move on and be able to say Inquisitor is busy elsewhere so he/she can't show up in this game. But if it's 10-15 years after Cory-pory kill then its better to be a brand new protagonist, in a brand new little area (more Northern country etc). That second choice would be my most preferred option.

I would like to see them move the inquisition out of fereldon and orlais. take the Inquisition into the other nations and deal more with uniting the kingdoms. to me the story of the Inquisition is just getting started. Coryipheus was just a threat not the end goal of the inquisition. I would like to see the inquisition take on a more larger role as it gains more power. then in DA5 you see how the inquisition turns out and if it became a corrupt fastist army forcing its will over the people of thedas or a force of peace and harmony.

That would be awesome.  I have mentioned to friends that the fact Bioware chose to do an organisation in DAI rather then some random person traveling solo (well, with party members but no other ties) seems like a lot of effort to change the style of the game in that way for nothing if they then turn around and toss it over the battlements in the next game. Though it also may have been a test to see how the protagonist being the head of an organisation would work for their story. Plus you have the first time a protagonist is such a "super-being type" with the Inquisitor's control over the fade, ability to enter it physically etc.

Now that I've jotted that down I want to change my stance haha, I would prefer the Inquisitor again now... thanks a lot..

I would like DA4 to be centred around a slave revolt in Tevinter, with the protagonist starting out as a slave, earning their freedom and then becoming a central figure in the rebellion. That basically necessitates having a new protagonist.

The point of forming the Inquisition was that the power hungry vixens like Cassandra and Leliana wanted to rise to the Sunburst Throne.

New guy, hopefully with a playable prologue. The origin stories really made me love my wardens and gave a sweet sense of revenge (human noble and city elf look at you Howe)

Having a different protagonist in each new main entry in the series is a staple I hope they keep.

Also, I hope they put the action away from southern Thedas this time, that way we'll avoid another round of complaints about a previous protagonist being away from the spotlight on his/her own turf.

***

Severing all of that in a random calamity like in ME2 would be cruel.

Bioware are at they're best when they're cruel to the player (says the guy who unironically loved both ME3's original ending and DA2's bleak final act)

***

Even if you sacrifice the Warden, Hawke still "disappears"...

Which is why I wish the next installment will happen outside Quizzy's sphere of influence: both previous protagonists, if they survived their ordeals have been put on buses to nowhere in order to make place for the next protagonist: a pattern I don't want to see becoming the norm.

***

Could have been done with Hawke imo, but his status is up in the air.

They really need to start pruning the story branches regarding the previous protagonists' fates.

I hope they jump ahead in time at least 25 years in addition to heading north. That way, we can cut down on the huge number of cameos the series has to juggle and avoid a DA2 situation where everyone just happens to run into the new protagonist. DAI made it a bit more plausible because te Inquisition is such a nexus of power, but I'd still rather an entire slate of new characters. It was just a bit odd at the end of DAI having three of four advisors to the Inquisition being returned characters from DAO.

Hawke.

Or someone new.

Or the Inquisitor, really.

You know, I don't care, as long as they don't get such a cumbersome, ill-connotated, and frankly, downright unsexy call sign. That is without hyperbole the thing I like the very least about DAI.

They won't because DA's thing seems to be about using new protagonists. But I definitely wouldn't mind play my IQ again, only if they redid everything about her and Inquisition. DA:I had so many great ideas about how the Inquisition should work that didn't get executed well. And of course the IQ was hella boring, despite the extreme circumstances he/she has been exposed to.
