It is my first Warrior character too and I'm thinking about the best spec to go with it, mainly for RP reasons. Do you think Dwarves are likely to get accepted into the Templars? Or are they ruthless enough to become Reavers? From the gameplay side I quite enjoy Sword and Shield combat but like to stay agile, roll all over the place and charge people!
Specialisation for a Dwarf!

Oghren in DAO was a Berserker, so I think they are ruthless enough to be a Reaver. =)

For Dwarf Warrior, I'd rank specializations in this order, highest RP/story alignment to lowest: Champion, Reaver, Templar. That's not to say a dwarf can't have some back story that makes Templar a good fit. It would require a bit more contortion, though.
Might be best to ask this kind of question in Story, Campaign & Character, though. Unless you care about min/maxing dwarven race buffs?

Champion would fit perfectly. Being so short and stout, they have a very low center of gravity. That would make them very good at being excellent defensive fighters.

I usually use a 2H build though, but thats just personal preference.

I started a playthrough as a dwarven warrior last week. I went with a sword and shield champion for my nightmare run. He's a ****** tank. Between unbowed, to the death, walking fortress and his other guard generating moves he is impossible to kill.
Thing is, he's also completely boring to play. All he does is taunt people and keep his guard up. He's great to have around, but i find myself almost always controlling Bull or Cole, depending on who i have in the team.
If you don't mind spending moretime fighting with your companions then with Cadesh, go with the uber tank. If you prefer a more direct playstyle try a 2 handed reaver dwarf. Those are great fun to play.

For that reason, I MUCH prefer using a 2 handed style for champion. It's as you can say to Bull, your offense is fine (with that weapon type) bit your defense needed a boost.

Yes, this is what I'm afraid of. I like to play him as a somewhat agile warrior - lots of rolls, charging, and abilities. I don't want to be a tank. I would prefer to use more active abilities, but as Reavers attacks override your weapons attack I lean towards Templar. So, it is very unlikely that Templars would accept a dwarf right? What about the reaver.. Do you still use your regular attacks whilst playing?
Then don't be a tank, just be unkillable. I only had 2 defensive abilities on my champion 2-hander character, both of them being champion skills (walking fortress and to the death) and the rest were all either offensive or mobility based.

To the Death is amazing on 2H warriors. And in regard to the reaver, Dragon Rage doesn't override your normal attacks. It's an ability like any other. If you don't want to use it you don't have to. Though the reaver loses almost all of it's potential if you don't use it.

Honestly, when it comes to specializations for any class/race combo, it makes more sense to look a lot more into what you want the character to be. I tend to like KE for mages and Champions for Warriors in terms of leader of the inquisition. Reaver can work if you have a good headcanon for it.

I've asked myself this very question countless of times, in the end both Lore-wise, gameplay-wise and roleplaying-wise I settled for... no specialization.
Honestly you're good to go without picking a specialization. Yeah, sure, you won't have access to some good fantasy skills but your dwarf will feel like a true gritty Carta bruising badass. You don't need no trainer, you have your own fighting style, your own unique build, you're pretty much the only warrior in town using both Battlemaster, Vanguard and Weapon skills (and Battlemaster skills truly RULE the Jaws of Hakkon endgame). True, any warrior could use this build as well, but you're not any warrior: you're "the best at what you do", as you told Josephine in Haven. Own it. Ignore all those stupid elite trainers and simply be the best warrior there is. Show them what House Cadash is made of. We're neither useless lyrium addicts nor mindless blood drinkers, nor do we care about impressing teenage squires and fainting wenches. House Cadash are True Warriors. Now stop being a nug about it and get to work. Breach ain't gonna close itself.
Source for viability: I was among the firsts (if not the first, according to youtube) to solo Jaws of Hakkon on Nightmare, and I still haven't completed a spec quest.

2H champion fan here too. So fun to play. extremely good survivability and DPS balance.

No, but the Templar-specced Inquisitor doesn't actually join the Templars. They just drink black-market lyrium and get an ex-templar to teach them how to use it.
Going without a specialization is totally doable. I went through most of the game with a no-spec dwarf 2H warrior because I couldn't decide between Reaver and champion and the quests were annoying. By the time I finished them I didn't want to change my playstyle. That said, it's a good idea to pick up a spec just for the passives even if you don't use the skills.
I'll join the others and recommend 2H Champion, especially if you like mobility. The only active you really need to use is Walking Fortress (the one that makes you invulnerable). You could try a build like this: Block-and-slash, Mighty Blow, Pommel Strike, Charging Bull, Grappling Chain, Walking Fortress, Mark of the Rift. If you don't have another warrior, War Cry is mandatory though. Actually you really should have it no matter what. So cut block/slash or pommel or mark of the rift and put in war cry. You can cut another one if you really want combat roll.

My point is, Warriors are viable and tons of fun without picking a specialization, and that's in my opinion the choice that would be the most consistent lore-wise with a Cadash Warrior, so if you don't want to choose now, just don't choose nowSource for viability: I was among the firsts (if not the first, according to youtube) to solo Jaws of Hakkon on Nightmare, and I still haven't completed a spec quest.
While true, I think it is more about which of the specializations fit best with a dwarf, and honestly, out of the three we see in-game, champion and reaver make the most sense.

If you want mobility as a Warrior, take Combat Roll and Charging Bull. As far as specs go, Champion is the easiest to justify for a Dwarf Warrior.
