I'll be explaining the love and hate that people have with the acolyte down to the most primal reasons. I'll try to be as fair as i can in explaining each side of the coin. It's all a matter of personal preference at the end..

THE LOVE

It's plain and simply easy to use, extremely effective and lightweight. It opens the door for more casual and relaxed game sessions because it eliminates most of the trouble and irritation of having to deal with pesky shielded enemies especially phantoms. It's responsible for many non soloers completing their first gold and/or platinum solo and has increased many if not most of it's users survival rate considerably so I understand the unapologetic and shameless love and attachment that many have towards it. In business and marketing there's something called "target audience" which a simply a product designed mainly towards a specific demographic of people in this case "The casual player" or people who have more of a taste for casual play and simplicity with minor skillful and/or tactical problem solving which can actually be a bother to most. I want to make it very clear that when I say "casual player" I don't mean it in any condescending sense or any other bad way because I understand that people's brains are fried from a hard day at work and have families and just wanna come home and play a couple of easy, simple and relaxed game sessions without much tactical and/or skillful thinking.

Having weapons like the acolyte plays a crucial role in increasing the casual market's retention rate so it's almost a guarantee that we'll see new "L2P" weapons in Andromeda...

THE HATE

Oh the sweet taste of some acolyte hate juice... There's an enhanced appeal and respect gained from achieving things through hard work and how someone can skillfully diversify to achieve it. It's not just about what others think or feel about others but its also a matter of personal principle. The acolyte is a very effective weapon but it has had a negative affect on the overall player base by arousing a strong and crippling dependency and therefore killing most of the incentives for critical and creative problem solving via skillful diversification. Why diversify when you can just acolyte? Why work with weapons that require a degree of aiming when you can just acolyte? Why experiment with and explore our inherent skillful creative genius as human beings like ARGENT and most of the top players did when you can just acolyte, strip shields, trivialize every game and lol your way through the waves to extraction. This mentality and behavior that has spread throughout most of the player base has become the object of scorn and lament to many players that prefer skillful diversification and/or diversity in general....The same can be said for any crutch weapon like reegar and the grenade launcher that is the venom..

The majority love the acolyte mainly because of the ease and simplicity it brings the the MP experience. The minority hate it because it promotes dependency and removes almost all incentive for critical thought, skillful and diverse play.....

..So..you are racist against Asari weapons???..Acolyte..It takes down shields / barriers......why is there any hate for a weapon that does that?   Do you also hate the lancer in gears of war because it is an assault rifle? Maybe if you played another EA game named FUSE..there are actual biotic weapons in it..there is a Warp Rifle..when so many rounds are fired at 1 single target it creates a Singularity..that's your problem, not ours...... Why do you hate fruit rolls?  People who havent played this game....get to have no opinion on anything.

The Acolyte actually does require some degree of aiming though. Not like it tracks enemies. :P

Why do I hardly ever see pugs using it? Since it apparently trivializes the game and allows you to "lol" waves to extraction, you'd think it would be super common. ;) They usually go for the Harrier or Reegar. Could it be because it actually isn't that amazingly awesome? I never think to myself "I really wanna destroy all enemies next match, better equip my Acolyte!"

Someone using the Acolyte can totally strategize and problem solve as well. I had to do that during my Platinum solo, despite using the Acolyte. I can also still be a team player and use it. I might not need help stripping shields, but I still constantly set off biotic and tech explosions for others.

I guess I will never understand that point of view.

I think it's a terrible looking, sounding and feeling weapon and I laugh at the pyjaks who use it on everything, but it has its uses (on host phantom repellent backup for those kits who lack stagger powers). If anyone wants to run it as a primary, I've no problem. Why should I care if they want to use an EZ mode gun with shitty range as well as poor TTK, and thus arrive at spawns after everything has already had its head blown off by the Arc Pistol that they could have picked instead?

...

By this logic, why play anything other than the Kroguard or the GI or what have you.

There will always be a top tier class/weapon, whether you like it or not. Nobody is stopping people from being a special snowflake and using different weapons, nor are they stopping you from discussing different setups for classes.

Well, If I simply want to be effective, Arc Pistol is better on almost anything. Should I decide to use an antiarmor power or ammo priming reliant build and thus desire an AOE anti shield weapon, then there is the much classier Adas. Why would I need the lolcolyte with these two superb weapons in existence?

I do love both of those weapons. The Adas on the FQE is so enjoyable.  <3

I don't know if yer new to bsn or just an alt but I would strongly recommend not following him. Your choice but I'll say this. He's an opportunist who revels in making others look bad and I do still play this game from time to time so his posts that you supporting are irrelevant..

Really? I'm on a pug odyssey right now, and the weapon is everywhere (and not just on biotics). Even the pugs have caught on that shield-stripping powers don't approach its utility. I'm even seeing Acolyte/Harrier combos here and there.

Can we please just put the 3rd red X on him and get it over with already?  ..It's like he is a N7 17 level 4 human soldier with a vindicator 2 and no gear with explosive  level 1 ammo for consumables that readies up on gold......

I think I will follow him because he makes more sense in his post about how you hate the weapon because it is made by the asaris and because his posts are funny.
