I'm getting an error during conversation.  Randomly (it seems) during conversations, I ctd.  Its happened in various planets/areas and there are varying timeframes between it.  At first, I thought it was the result of me pressing a response too fast but after some experimentation that doesn't seem to be the case.  I can't reproduce the problem on my own either, as I said it seems to be completely random.  I purchased and downloaded the game through Steam.  I've also done a search for some anwsers but I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem with active threads that weren't more then 2 years old.  Below are my specs and a screen shot of the error that comes up after the crash.

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo, E8400 3Ghz
4 Gigs Ram
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX +, 2286mb memory (can't remember the size on the card some i'm going by DXdiag)
DX 11

I've had the same problem with my version (D2D version). Glad I'm not the only one, I was starting to wonder if my memory was going bad.

It has to be something w/ the game. Dragon Age, and the other games i play work fine. No crashes, no errors. Its not a game stopper but its damn annoying. All i want to do is play through ME1 so i can play ME2.

I always get this on ME1 (PC DVD ROM version). I think it's something to do with the operating system (also on win 7 64) - I never had this problem with the same system but on win xp.

To me this looks like it's trying to access a file that doesn't exist.

Since it's a Steam install, you should try letting Steam verify the integrity of the game cache. If that doesn't help, uninstalling and reinstalling the game might.

Not sure about how it would occur for AwesomeName, though. Maybe a flawed game disc, or a harddrive problem?

EDIT: Oh, just noticed the age of this thread. And on second thought, I'm probably wrong anyway. >_>

It's not the hard disc, because it's been like this on all hard discs I've used whilst using Win 7 64. It's not the disc because it didn't do this at all when I used to use win xp (and the hardware's the same).

Although there was only one hardware forum when Mass Effect was first transferred from the Legacy forums to here, the XBox 360 version of ME1 and the PC version of ME1 were separated out at about the time this thread died, was buried, and rotted into worm droppings.  This is a dead old leftover that never got moved and is way too old to dig back up.  Make a new thread in the correct forum, please.
