I'd like to discuss if you ever watch at foreign voice acting in films, and if you appreciate it (and understand, of course).

 

I can contribute with one piece of acting,  to show you how the italian voice acting was more than 20 years ago.

Most of the time for live action I think over dubbing detracts from the movie or series. I stick with subtitles. For animated pieces it can go either way IMO. It just depends on voice direction and casting.

What do you think about the dubbed scenes I put? I can only say that, in some cases, voice acting is useful to reach many people who can lose their minds after the subtitles, and also offer a different interpretation of the same character, plus giving some characters the right emphasys they hadn't got in the original.

Fun fact: Old Italian movies had to be overdubbed in their own languages, because Italian filmmakers generally did not have soundstages to work with. If you watch any of the old Italian neo-realist movies, for instance (i.e. Bicycle Thieves, La Strada, etc.), you can see that the movement of the lips doesn't precisely match with the words they're saying. This effect is pretty noticeable even if you don't speak any Italian at all (which I don't). So I guess you could say that dubbing those films over in English doesn't cost you much, but I do prefer the subtitles because reading them distracts me from the mismatch, and because I like to get a sense of the original actor's inflections, tone, etc.

The Italian Dub of Batman was very good. 8/10

I'd been amongst the Italians so I understand the pronunciations, talking standards and quality speech.

The one with two man greet and shake hands and their boss talking to them is comedy gold!

I once watched a Bond movie with polish dubbing. One guy with the same monotonious voice spoke through everything. Never again. And I don't even speak polish.

I'm danish so the concept always seemed alien or german to me. We don't do this generally, in denmark. If I go to see the latest hollywood movie in the theaters it's with danish subtitles not dub, unless it's a kids movie.

Oh God the dubbing in Chinese martial art movies was always hilariously fantastic.
