We said there would not be much special stuff in this book,

I read everything. If you can link a post actually saying that, I'll eat my shield.

Can I ask why you need an alt account?

Probably didn't need one, just felt like reliving what it was like to be a newbie/have a new challenge.

I actually did that on ME3MP for kicks and giggles. Didn't last very long before I went back to my original account that had All The Things unlocked.

You're going to be so sad when the account that has NO things gets the Superb HOK.

Sure.  One day I was wondering about a secondary account and how that worked on XB1.  So, I made an alt account, and found that my alt account can play all the games I have on my main account.  It was really just a curiosity thing.  Then I decided to play some DAIMP with the alt account, and have just kept going.  There is something about opening chests and the sense of awe when you receive something worthwhile.  Tough to explain, but a recapturing of the child-like awe.  Also, I am not worried about the leaderboards at all so prestige is not an issue.

I have absolutely zero desire to start an alternate account for DAIMP.

I even downloaded the free PC trial, despite not knowing if my laptop can even run it, but the thought of firing that up brand new again when the current grind is still ongoing.

Ew.

Also, that's exactly the scenario that would happen and the rage would probably cause me to quit DAIMP forever. So, yeah, desire is low.

The way I've always seen it, these chests were mostly made for new players, to introduce them to the game and have them playing for 4 weeks. (as these Books were introduced around the time the PC trial started happening, also if you've read Varric's chapters, it's all about new recruits becoming proper agents.) So my hopes about what I'll find in the chest weren't that high in the first place. I just like free stuff. RNGesus was in my favor so I got two purples.

But, considering this was the first time they've attempted something like this, I can forgive them for this chest deployment hiccup. I'm not going to go all Tom on Bubble Buddy on Beardidditrinity just because of technical issues, either.

The game has been out for what, 9 months. We don't need 'new recruit' challenges. Billy just lied to us. Super sweet gear he said. I forgot what was in the chests as soon as I opened them they were that disappointing. It was a regular commendation chest of disappointment. Absolutely nothing sweet about them. Stop apologizing and making excuses for a total mess of implementation and disappointment. It took what, 2 weeks to get a commendation chest? Ridiculous. The weekend challenges are the only thing i even find enjoyment in any more in this game and since the last 3 weekends have been match points, that novelty is wearing very thin very quickly.

Just to add a bit.

To be able to get the last part of the quest I had to do dragons 8 times. Lets be kind and say there actually was a free dragon call as a quest reward (which I don't remember getting FYI), that means 7 dragon calls - so 35 cloth, 70 leather and 70 metals. I have strong doubts that I got enough chests through the quest line to compensate the mats I used to get my "super sweet" reward. In the end it feels like I'm at a net loss for having participated.

Challenges are now all going to be bundled into little books. 5 at a time.

And we seem to have the kinks ironed out.

The next books 5th star reward is (i think) really cool.

Any chance we could get an extra credit challenge in October? I'm going to be gone for gone for a full week (last week of the month). There's no chance whatsoever that I'll be to do all of the challenges otherwise.

That pretty much sums it up. I had no faith in the reward to begin with, and somehow less when they started having technical issues.

So we got the usual junk for this hyped up, month-long mega-challenge, and we have to do another one and hope it doesn't happen again? Am I correct in assuming we won't really be receiving anything for the challenge we already did?

#54  Is finishing Varric's "Tales of the Inquisition's Agents: Book 1" going to be worth it?:

Fiddzz Posted 29 July 2015 - 10:29 AM

I think it's commendation, commendation, different chest, commendation, different chest.

Next one we will play around with the chests some more to give more fun/unique rewards.

Banners/Titles/portraits sadly are not something we can do with server-side created challenges, which these are.

I don't know how to quote cross-thread, so here's a copy/paste of what Blair said a few weeks back.  A lot of you are citing the twitch stream, so I think there is a disconnect of sources.  I don't watch the twitch streams, as I am at work when they are going on, and then playing the actual game when I get home lol    Not sure of the date of the stream, as I can't open it here at work, but to say that BW is lying, when not-Blair said 'super awesome stuffs' (or whatever) in a twitch stream, is a bit of a stretch.  Not-Blair spoke out of turn in that the last Varric chest had already been built, sans 'super awesome stuffs'.  Since we are discussing this here, I think it's fair to say you had access to two different accounts of what would be found in the chest.

And, again...free chests, nothing extra had to be done to get them, just the regular challenges.  If you were going to do the challenges anyway, you got an extra chest.  If you only did the challenges to get the Varric chests, they were still free chests.  So much gnashing of teeth over not getting 'super awesome stuffs' for doing what you would be doing anyway...sorry, I'm just not feelin' it.

@Freedheart: I think the biggest issue with the commendation chests now is that they are still the old 1250 chests, which no longer exist. To my understanding, the reason for that is the old chest system wasn't that great for trying to get high end gear. So now we have new, more expensive chests at the top end, with significantly better loot drops. If the current commendation chests were swapped out for superb requisition chests, I think it would go a long way towards turning challenge rewards into something more than salvage crates.

Those upgraded 1200 gold chests were the bomb. These 2000 gold ones are a downgrade forsure.

Guuuuuuurl you need a hok ring, any hok ring. And I thought DR had bad luck, jeez. :P

All my chests for the first book were terrible, salvage all the things.  Luckily for me I haven't finished any of the perilous dragon challenges so don't feel salty using numerous dragon calls last weekend. I had to get around to doing it sometime, just kept putting it off as I find fighting dragons kinda boring.

when all this went down yesterday I did some digging and from what i found their are 3 main things

1. The twitch which I posted

2. Luke saying it is hard to figure out what to put in them and someone will always complain and what they would prob end up doing is putting a bunch of top accessories in the chest

3. And 3 fiddzz saying that the chest would be commendation chests basically

I would be willing to bet #3 is what fiddzz is referring to which doesn't really mean anything anyway since they could put whatever they wanted in them.

#24  Is finishing Varric's "Tales of the Inquisition's Agents: Book 1" going to be worth it?:

post #24  Luke Barrett Posted 28 July 2015 - 09:51 PM

What would you like to see in it? :)

The problem that typically arises when building the table for the unique chests is that we can't just give Hakkon weapons to someone who has been playing for 4 or 5 weeks. We usually attempt to split it based on what you're loot score is at but as you can guess it always leaves people that are just under the next jump very upset (1 item could be the difference between a Hakkon weapon and a level 18 epic for example). The other option we have is to just pick some of the top accessories and build a big chest of those and set them to only drop if you don't already have them.

Lots of options but I suspect no matter which way we go some people won't be happy with it - such is the way of the chest -_-

Since Blair posted his comment barely 12 hours after Luke's post...and he is speaking about chests to come, it would seem to support his statement that the chests were already built.

Headbasher, you are aptly named...maybe you could give the poor brick wall a break, though.   :D

If not, I can probably find you a dead horse to beat...yep, I'm a helper!   ;)

Billy was mistaken.  We weren't able to get the super awesome stuff in until future books.

I can accept that, and I even feel sympathetic because I am sure he and others feel bad about it.

What is unclear to me, though, is why a proper chest isn't going to be issued once the tech is working. The challenge data isn't going anywhere, is it?

The Superb Requisitions chest has the same item-to-gold ratio as the old Medium Chests, which was very, very slightly worse than the Large Chest. However, the Superb Requisitions chest guarantees at least 1 rare or better item.

Not that I'm complaining those chests are rubbish, just that I can't see why they are "special" or "different" or "awesome" in anyway.

So despite all that they just decided to give a normal chest at the end? I remember seeing blue salvages but definitely no purple what so ever, not even a low level salvage. Would be happy even if I can just get a skill ring that I don't have already.

My chests were super awesome. Dont know where y'all at, mine were full of glorious purple-ness.

I was still happy from getting that Dragon bow
and a HoK ring at the start of the weekend, to finish with a Hakkon staff and Greatsword is awesome - I never did get Sulevin Blade, now I have surpassed it!
