I do have to question how this will handled in Andromeda, I hope they use a similar system to that of Mass Effect 2 (albeit with the ability to customize your weapon with attachments like scopes, grips and underbarrel attachments and whatnot) where each weapon is unique and you don't have to worry about farming for upgraded variants in order to damage higher level opponents.

For some reason I can't help but fear that Andromeda will be infested with a loot system similar to that of games like Inquisition, Destiny, Diablo 3 and the Original Mass Effect where you constantly have to be on the lookout for upgraded versions of virtually identical pairs of trousers that have higher numbers than your previous pair in order to stay relevant against enemies that are virtually identical to the lower level enemies only with higher numbers in areas like damage and health. I don't know how this system got so popular in most mainstream RPGs as I have yet to see a game where the system actually adds anything other than a tedious annoyance.

I mean if you upgrade your health and damage and your enemy upgrades their health and damage how does the experience change? Health bars still deplete at the same rate due to the increased damage negating the increased health pool so what does this trouser micromanagement mini-game actually add to the larger game as a whole?

Equipment options are great but only when they add variety to the gameplay, forcing the player to upgrade a gun from I to X for the mere sake of it is just tedious.

I agree that the numbered weapon system in ME 3 didn't seem to add much at all. And I think restricting the best weapons to a new game+ playthrough is stupid.

I agree, I'd like to imagine they do keep up with customisation, it makes me actually want to buy or find upgrades fo my equipment, but if it's Destiny or DA:I over again, then that takes away the uniqueness of each set of weapons or armour. I'd like to see a new system of upgrading things, maybe like the Dead Space series with a twist.

I imagine they'll just go with the Mass Effect 3 system with some improvements to it.

Hopefully more mods.

Yeah, I'd enjoy more mods, it'll give me more of a choice to suit me and how I play, likewise to you and how you play.

Loot needs to be fun to find if their going for such a system, both due to unique appearance on items and a plethora of effects and quirks on items outside of a simple boost to defensive stats or weapon damage, that is something Bioware in recent years have failed badly at.

I would prefer if we didn't actually loot anything, instead just scan items or download data with our omni-tools. Or mark loot to be taken by the clean-up team.

They should also remove the lvl1-10 nonsense for weapons. A gun is a gun, let us improve it with mods instead of getting a slightly better version from a merchant.

Which means more mods instead of leveled mods, too.

I'd like to see something like a weapons locker available to all careers, so that as you unlock weapons and mods in one playthrough, they become available in other careers. It kind of sucks to have to re-unlock weapons in mods when creating a new character when you just want to make a new class and see how it plays with the weapons you have already got.

I'd prefer a return to the ME2 loot system, myself.

ME3 system with a few tweaks is fine.  In ME1, I hated the "auto-loot" and it just cluttered your inventory.

Take some cues from DA:I. It might be a tad too unbalanced, but when it comes to inventory and customization it did so many things right.

The last thing Mass Effect needs is for the inventory to return, even if it's better than ME1's awful, awful inventory.

Yeah, ME3, just more, please. It was better.

DA:I's inventory was a complete mess. From an UI design point of view it was an unmitigated disaster on PC. Not sure how customization fits into the inventory discussion though.

I want nothing from DA:I in ME:A, damn -- I hate DA:I and if I didn't waste $60, I wouldn't try to beat this game.

When it comes to UI design on PC, Bioware should take more than one hint from MMORPG's on how to design an inventory and character screen.

Your are right. Bio gave us too many weapons and mods that made little difference between them.. useless, really. Playing as an Adept I went for the Paladin and scope mod. I was good with head shots too.

Point is, we all took the gear we liked and ignored the rest.  A simplified weapons selection system may be a better option.  That is, offer one general purpose one and a few specialized ones... same with armours.  Better yet, offer the ability to change your weapon loadout in the battle.. say from organic to armour piercing?

In DA:I did not care much for its loot system as it often forced me to use weapons/armor that did not look as good as the gear I already had in order to remain competitive (especially on hard/nightmare). In my opinion armor should remain mainly austhetic (ME2 style) and weapon selection should remain relatively small but each weapon in a category should be drastically different. ME3 did a good job of this with some pistols being standard semi-auto weapons, one was a mini-shotgun, one shot grenades! None were totally better than another but each fit a different playstyle, I found it better than having 20 identical pistols, each being slightly better than the last.

ME3 did it just fine. Much better than Destiny's bull**** loot system.

The only thing I hope they do differently is actually make me look for it, let me find it. Don't place it at my feet in a narrow hallway as I walk down the only path in the level so it's impossible for me to miss it. There's no sense of discovery or accomplishment in that.
