the pc version is 10 bucks cheaper and gets the overhead view, along with a world editor program and mods.

This doesn't make sense.  Why is it cheaper than the xbox 360 version?

EDIT: No swearing in thread title, please.

Pricing schemes are set by custom and/or manufacturer and/or system creator. Console games have, in the past few years, started at $60 and gone down, whereas PC games have usually been a little bit cheaper. It's just the way it is.

Because Sony and Microsoft decided to up the standard amount for their games while PC and Nintendo stayed the same.

Take it up with them.

i was just joking not a big deal to me. My real question is- how do i know i get the lucky stone dlc? my email on this site and gamertag email is the same. Shouldn't I get confirmation I'll get the lucky stone or do i have to wait until I buy the game and play it?

Yep. PC games have had a $50 price tag on all new releases for the past .... decade or so. When the 360 and PS3 came out Sony and Microsoft felt like $50 wouldn't cut it for the growing console market so they upped the price to $60. The fact that I didn't see many people complaining about it scares me.

Yes it is very strange. About the same strangeness that tells us that games in the States cost X dollars and in Europe the same amount in Euro's. Even when the Euro is worth $1,50. Now I know that there are taxes, in- and export costs and whatever, but I these don't cover up to 33% of the item cost.

So whenever businesses think they can get away with it, consumers are getting used. Posted Image
It has happened before, it is happening now and it will happen again.

Get used to it. Posted Image

Edit: typo

Its to pay the "console" tax, you are paying extra to cover the cost of the research and dev that went with the console.

At Calibisto, its only a matter of time they will be raising the price of games in Europe, all publishers are fightting to raise the price because they feel you should be paying more.

Dunno I am not that knowledgeable about Economy. I just read all articles pertaining to the media usually. Look at Modern Warfare 2 they raised the price for that if it still sells very well it will become the standard in Europe.

You're also paying that extra $10 to support the ongoing online infrastructure costs for Live and PSN, the relevant console maker QA of all online content and PSN/Live-based marketing. Think of it this way - when you play a console game you're dealing with two entities: the publisher and the console maker, which acts as a sort of middle man in that it furnishes development kits and takes a hand in distribution and marketing for that console version, among other things. If you buy a PC game, you're only dealing with the publisher - MS only takes a cut of games for windows live titles. DA:O is not a GWL game, so no extra dev costs there.

The part that is ridiculous to me is the quality of the game, modern warfare is a good example. The single player campaign is ridiculously short in FPS games. The main focus in FPS games tends to be multiplayer, that I can understand, but the quality of these games isn't worth the price as it is now, so I definitely wouldn't pay more, at least that's my opinion. Of course the masses will probably disagree.

I don't see why Modern Warfare 2 is gonna cost $60 on the PC just because COD4 sold well I guess. I think it should cost $50 new, like other new releases and not $60.

Exactly, I think they're just out to make a quick buck because they know they have a loyal fan base so they figure they can squeeze the ten extra bucks out of them. I'll probably end up doing it >.< but it is still ridiculous.

MW2 is going to be the biggest game of the year - of course it will cost more on PC. It figures that the extra cost will more than make up for the miniscule (for MW2) loss in sales. I have a feeling Activision will start to (if it hasn't already) consistently price PC games to be the same as the console versions - it's the sort of customer-unfriendly behavior that makes Bobby Kotick, erm, aroused.

$10 markup.. try living in Europe. A quick search gave prices of 45 euro ($67) for the normal edition, and 60 euro, or a whopping $90, for the CE.

Sure, the avg income is a bit higher here, but this is just silly...

Games cost more on consoles, because there's certification and licensing fees to be paid to Microsoft and Sony - the publishers pass that cost onto the consumer.

As for Modern Warfare 2 - well that's just Bobby Kotick being greedy as there are no licensing and certification fees for the PC, which is why I already decided I wasn't going to rush out and buy it on launch. From what I'm seeing so far, there's already talk of a lot of retailers discounting MW2 themselves, at least here in Denmark - but we will see - DA:O and finals should keep me busy well into 2010, in any case.

Most consoles are sold at a loss (The Wii being one of the few exceptions). The likes of Microsoft and Sony make their money by getting a cut of the game's sales, hence your average console game costs more than a PC game. The flipside being the console itself is generally cheaper than a gaming PC.

I can already tell you, that when the prices in europe are going up, hardly no one will be paying and piracy will start to dominate the market even more. 60 euro's for a console game, which equals about 100 Dollars, while in america the same game costs like 50 dollars, is dumb. But were used to being cheated like that. However, a price increase would be a fatal thing for the games market. No one, in there right mind is going to pay 100 euro's or more for a 8 hour mediocre game as the standard for games seem to be these days.

Also, the PC version of MW2 was delayed till November 24th. Same features (no level editors or anything), higher price than usual, two weeks later.

All this makes me even more grateful towards developers that still recognize the PC gamers as a strong and profitable market.

Heh, that's pretty much what the PC version of the game cost here in Sweden. The console versions are even more expensive, say $85 to $90 for the regular edition and about $115 for the CE.

We should remember that a PC good enough to play most new releases with the same or higher quality then consoles cost much more money.
Edit: But try living in Norway where a standard new console release cost 599 NOK (107.601 $, 72.308 EURO and 67.2645 £) and a PC game 449 NOK (80.6563 $, 54.2008 EURO and 50.4203 £)

Console version of the game in Sweden cost about 86.5 $ for the game and 122 $ for CE
And for the PC about 65 $ for the game and 93 $ for CE
