I'm near the end now. Story is very interesting, combat is challenging, good length, quite a lot of companion interaction. I have enjoyed this more than Jaws of Hakkon.

My only criticism is that I feel the pacing was a little off in the middle. Beginning third and last third advance the story well, while the middle slacks slightly.

The DLC as a whole is bad, way overpriced for what its worth.

Plus spoilers!

No spoiler forum. Can you tag the bulk of your text please?

Edit: Thanks :)

quite a lot of companion interaction

Could you please specify this one (spoiler-free)? Who's in your party and what sort of interaction do you mean?

All I can say is it's good to finally see some dwarf stuff.

Sick of elves.

I took Vivienne, Cass and Varric. The very first cutscene features a decent amount of companion interaction, and they continue to chat relatively often throughout the adventure. Probably not as frequently as in the main game, though.

Two new temporary companions have a ton of dialogue, too.

You know I am torn between starting off with Bull-Cass-Dorian or Dorian-Varric-Cass for my first run...well first time down I should say considering I will be switching out parties...I imagine often.

You don't mean that, the second statement that is ;-). Agree fully on the first one though =)

Considering that main game has low and random banter rate, that does not  really sound....encouraging. :P

I'm not sure about the DLC yet. Probably going to wait for a discount.

It's been a while since I've played the main game, but I meant probably a bit less than in the main quests.

I'd say the DLC is worth it if you're interested in Dwarven lore. :)

Qunari are adorable...with arrows.  Except for Iron Bull.

I haven't played the DLC, but I do plan on getting it. But, I've heard that Inquisitor Cadash and Varric has a lot to say in the DLC, which I'm excited about it.  :D

Varric speak more than others companions, but "a lot to say" is a stretch, he will be mute for the majority of the DLC.

Voice selection, race selection, or both?

Both.

And yeah, DAI has a great cast. It's a shame we get to hear almost nothing from them.

(Although I'll always claim DA2 had the best one. Even if I didn't like all of the character, and I don't since Sebastian is my least favorite character from both franchises, I genuinely felt bonded with all of them since Hawke was actually involved with all of their lives as a friend instead of the protagonist and companions banding together to achieve some goal.)

They kind of went the carcature route with most of the characters.  Even the characters I really loved in the game, Anders and Fenris for example, they did not feel human to me, did not feel like characters with me, but caricatures.  Only exception is with Varic.  And of course Hawk themselves.

The fights were challenging. I ran through the main quest and came back to explore/collect the gears. I still have quite a bit to do before running through with my next Inquisitor.

I found it interesting and fun.

Never. Everything is elves.

Needs more dwarves across the board.

Personally, I regret buying it. It does have a story. But it isn't particularly strong. It's mostly fighting through waves of darkspawn, which Bioware decided to give a ton of health to, so you're mainly just sat there for ages, hacking/firing away, waiting for your enemies to die. It's tedious.

If you really really like DAI's combat, you'll love it. If you were hoping for a deep story with lots of companion interaction, you'll be disappointed. The companions were pretty much silent all of the way through (although, Dorian's Mass Effect joke was hilarious).

After Hakkon and now this, I'm considerably less excited for the next DLC. It seems they're focusing more on delivering new combat experiences than anything else. Can't help but feel this would have been better as a multiplayer expansion.

I'm about half way through and love the Deep Roads so far. Just like someone said, I think this is what a upward does best - more linear but story driven adventures. I like these design more than JoH even if just by a small bit. Environments are awe inspiring, and the new dark spawns are just great. Love the Ogre and its grabbing attack - and I just love the whole sheer amount of enemies in some places there! My 25lvl Rift Mage found some challenge after all:)

however my other lower level characters had to lower the difficulty from Nightmare...

Companions have some nice reactions but overall it's two new NPC who do the talking. You can reply to them few times though.

Story is intriguing and I was very happy to see nice new loot and all the workbenches in one place. And of course, the expedition war table adds more flavour!

Can't wait to level my Dwarf to see him enter the Deep Roads :P

Is it serious that people are fiding the DLC fights difficult? I was expecting JoH level of difficult and in the end I was disappointed.

Okay I played through the whole thing, took me about 7 hours and I have some side stuff left.

I don't get why some people say that the companions are mostly mute - that's just not true. They don't have a lot to say, but they do get a line here and there - it never felt like this isn't enough, I personally am quite content with the amount of companion comments. It is not companion focused so it's irrelevant who you bring (though Varric and Dorian were hilarious, I recommend taking them) but they do comment the situation at certain scripted places. Combined with the new companion's banter (which is great and hilarious at times) it never gets as silent as exploring in the main game can be. I really liked it. I think you could compare it to most of the main games story missions. Of course there could always be more companion stuff... but we already discussed the reasons for why this isn't happening. (I do like the suggestion someone made above of incorporating the adivsors more - that'd be awesome. Cullenites, unite! Or maybe do a DLC where the Inquisitor runs around with only the advisors as party. Josephine could suddenly notice her magical talent and they're the perfect party! :D).

The story is interesting and it feels like this is setting up something, like Legacy did. The new equipment looks great, there are new Tier 4 schematics for every weapon/armor category (except for medium armor but maybe I missed it). The DLC also has some awesome vistas in the later parts. I really liked that you were never stuck in the DLC, you had your base camp on the top floor and the lower floors all had fast travel points so that you could hop between them and didn't have to do a lot of backtracking. There are no new abilities but I was really happy that I had the JoH-ability ready - I liked that the combat design seemed to take the JoH-ability into account.

All in all, the DLC hit all the right beats for me: The difficulty (Lvl 23-25 KE on hard) was good, it was challenging but never too hard, the comments were funny, I connected to the new characters, and there were a couple scenes I can't say more about because of spoilers but they were great, some tense, some funny. It's not earth shattering but I was happy to come back to DA:I for it. Now I have to replay it with all other companions and see what they have to say :D
