I really wasn't expecting too much from this DLC having never been a fan of the deep roads or dwarves in particular but after 8 hours playing through it with my first dagger wielding inquisitor consider me a convert. I loved it. :D

It's superbly atmospheric and with interesting new characters I think I actually enjoyed this more than Jaws of Hakkon. It's certainly a more linear experience but for me delving into the dark dangerous unknown with every step is far more compelling than backtracking and running around a region you've already seen.

I think once I've dungeon crawled with all my inquisitors I've definitely got my money's worth.

Is it serious that people are fiding the DLC fights difficult? I was expecting JoH level of difficult and in the end I was disappointed.

I had to turn it down from Hard to Casual, so yes. But it's really only against the new mob. The Darkspawn are easy.

Although I'm pretty sure it's because I brought Varric (which I normally don't do) and Bianca effing sucks. So it's basically like I'm only doing it with Cadash, Dorian, and Blackwall.

Meh, I might have been easy for me but ...

-) Viviennes KE bubble + Quizzy JOH bubble.
-) Tier 4 armor + strong weapons.
-) Blackwalls Champion spec.
-) Line in the Sand + Wall of Ice + Static Cage helped a lot.

I really enjoyed the Descent. Killing darkspawn was fun for the first time, well...ever, and the new music was so amazing it gave me chills. New lore discoveries were worth the price of purchase alone and the two new dwarven guides were delightful characters. I *think* Grey Griffin was the voice of the lady Shaper...and who doesn't love her work? I loved her as Viconia. :)

The Deep Roads environments (and beyond) are beautifully done and left me with a sense of just how much the dwarves have lost to the darkspawn horde. That being said, it is a little bit buggy in that spawning enemies tend to get stuck in walls and floors which can cause progression to grind to a halt, but if you save often it's a relatively minor inconvenience. All in all, I consider the Descent a good buy.

I guess people who enjoy DAI combat - and avid MP players obviously - will JUST LOVE the Descent :)

I think that was my issue as well (bringing Varric). My next run throughs will probably be easier with Sera, Dorian and Blackwall. That is the team I am used to.

Some areas I wished there were torches to carry, to explore some darker corners.

Also I started at lvl-12, enemies were 12 too. after certain point the enemies were suddenly 16 and the group went down so fast I had to go and level up elsewhere.

All I can say is it's good to finally see some dwarf stuff.

Sick of elves.

I was actually really hoping for more dwarf stuff before this came out, but the "revelations" disappointed me so much that I just want the elves back...

Without spoiling it much, from what I saw on youtube and other places, this DLC pretty much follows the same path as JoH. Main difference is that it's linear rather then open world.

The story is light. The start is pretty good, but the pace dies out soon and before you realize it, you are in a dungeon crawl filled with combat after combat. It does have more cutscenes then JoH though. There is only one boss battle and the ending was pretty disappointing in my opinion, answering absolutely no question that the DLC raises.

That was pretty much my reaction. For me, the story and quality of the DLC went gradually down as you descend the deep roads. Really poetic though, isn't it? :P Ugh. Don't even get me started on the ending <_< Terribly anticlimactic, and just left me confused, unlike JoH, which I actually found informative and climactic. Yep. I actually miss JoH after playing this.

This is very enjoyable.

Linear does not equal bad. It's kind of the same experience as DAO's Deep Roads section, albeit minus the backtracking. Of which being a good or bad thing, one must judge for themselves. It does have that same sensation of "Wow, the entrance sure is farther and farther away with every step", which I love.

Personally, I'd prefer for them to take this route further; having but one objective in an area. Ironically, this even worked splendidly in the Hissing Wastes before, and it is the most open spaced area in the game. People use dungeon crawler with the connotation of it being mindless enemy slaughter with no lefts & rights, but that's a little presumptuous. The Decent has a very thick atmosphere, like the other linear areas in the vanilla game, such as Fallow Mire -which I also loved- with very straightforward objective, lots of lore that exclusively relates to it, as well as lots of "what happened?" to pick up on and to paint a picture.

I would have liked a bit more from the companions, and the ending kinda left me in a "what?" state, but otherwise I enjoyed the DLC a lot. The dungeon crawl was fun and all the lore was interesting. Overall, I thing the DLC was really great. :)

I really enjoyed it tbh, whoever says there are hardly any cutscenes is bullshitting imo. There's more than enough. The story was interesting and the only bit I found challenging (Well, not challenging but more annoying) was theone where you had to get 5 earthersakers sword and put it in a barrier. Other than that it was a really good dlc.

Yeah, it was absolutely Varric/Bianca. I went back to Skyhold and bought two respec amulets for Cadash and Varric. I gave Varric my daggers and crafted a decent bow and suddenly it was a cake walk.

I am enjoying it so far. Had to of course start it for the first time with my dwarf warrior who has done everything in the game other then complete Well of Sorrows bit and the final fight. She has already completed Jaws of Hakkon.

I'm finding however that maybe tackling this DLC when I am already at the lv cap to be a bad thing. Everything is lv 27 so far. And that's kind of deceiving. A lv 27 ogre for example is like a 5 min fight but a lv 27 Hurlock goes down with 2-3 hits. I can't judge how tough combat is going to be lol. But I am loving it so far.

Well, a big reason they included the double voice actors was because of race selection. It's another option I would happily scrap for DA4,

I wouldn't.

The thing is that they were going to have a human Protag for DA:I and there was such an outpouring against that that they added the race selection. There was then a large swell of support for Qunari protag so they added them as well.

There is a large section of the games core support that are firmly behind race choice, I'm one of them. The fact that I haven't finished the game with a human Inquisitor goes to show how important the race choice was to me.

If you think having "race selection" which amounts to little beyond aesthetic differences and half a dozen throwaway dialogue options is worth sacrificing so much character content, then I hope you're happy with abyssmal single player MMO that we've been given.

After DA2 there wasn't a large outpouring against it cause it would have just been following on from that game.

Regardless of race selection, I'm really happy they had 2 voices to choose from, and with different accents. It's also good for making a variety of characters that actually seem different from each other. So I hope they continue to do so in all their games.
