Yeah, I know. Reviews will be sprouting like Elfroot from now on, but I wanted to give some short pros and cons about the Descent.

Pro:

- Great map layout and a dungeon crawler style.

- Two interesting and amusing characters that grew onto me faster than some of the main game which had even more screen time.

- Cool concept of a real exploration via numerous exploration operations that lead to optional areas.

- Good pacing at the beginning of the DLC.

- Lore about Deep Roads, Titans and the new enemies.

- Some challenging fights

- Better story integration than in JoH.

Cons:

- 15€ isn't appropriate for the amount of content in there. Due to its linearity there isn't much to go for after the quests are done. JoH delivers more reasons to come back once finished.

- The pacing once the Deep Roads are left is way too fast. So, the second half feels rushed and can't compete with the first half.

- Not much of companion input.

- Lesser secrets than in JoH.

- No new materials.

- Overall just too short. Finished my second playthrough in under 2 hours.

And one point that annoys me as hell: Again no armor for Twohander warrior. Only a good Vitaar for a Qunari Inquisitor. Not only that the "damage" specialisation Reaver is the weakest one, no, there is simply no offensive warrior gear. I'm still running around with a level 12 epic head ( Mask of Grand Duchess) and a crafted leather armor because they are way better than everything else. Just cut out damage warrior if it doesn't fit in. This way it just sucks /rant off

In conclusion: Better story integration than JoH, but too expensive for its shortness and lack of reasons to come back once finished.

Just about 9 months since release and we still don't have a substantial story driven DLC with this game. And the way the DLC is being release, announced days or weeks before they drop is just weird too. I have to believe there's just a small team left working on DA:I. Either that or they're not getting much support from EA, as they want them to concentrate efforts on Mass Effect Andromeda and the new IP. I dunno, I'm not a fly on the wall, but this game has some weakass DLC.

I'm only half way through, but I think the combat is worse then usual in this dlc.  There's so many enemies on the screen that it's very hectic, and the boss units have obscene amounts of health.  The battles aren't harder, but they are less enjoyable.  Might just be me though.

The Ogre Alpha and Emissary Alpha were the worst offenders for me. The amount of health they (and most other enemies had for that matter) was more irritating than challenging.

To be honest I wasn't too impressed with this DLC, for £11.99 I expected a lot more. There are some interesting reveals however for the most part this dlc is a linear dungeon crawler and perhaps my least favourite bioware dlc. I found the combat to be tedious the enemies were more an irritation than anything and the amount of enemies that kept knocking my mage over with abilities really started to annoy me.

The dlc's released so far for dragon age inquisition are quite underwhelming the two armour packs that are being sold for £4.25 are in my opinion a rip off. Given Inquisition's incredibly limited armour aesthetics with each class having perhaps three armour sets these dlc's don't really add enough to be worth the cost.

Overall I do like the base game and the jaws of hakkon was ok. This dlc however seems to be setting something larger up and leaves you with more questions than answers there is no feeling of accomplishment upon completion and it felt very abrupt.

I still love Bioware games they are among my favourite developers including Obsidian,Bethesda,CD project red,343,Bungie etc. However in recent years I have found myself enjoying their games less.

They are still without doubt one of the best developers out there however to me it seems like their more recent games (from DA2 onwards) are loosing something that attracted me to them in the first place.

I liked this DLC more than JoH, but the most glaring fault is that it still didn't use your companions actively.

I remember when I first started playing and there had been some banter between the Shaper and Legionaire was:

"I kinda feel like Bioware made these two travel with me to avoid making new party banter with all the actors."

That's not good, especially since both these new characters were actually interesting.

Otherwise I enjoyed the scenery and side objectives more, although loot felt really plentiful by the end. Combat had nothing new. Shrieks and emissaries are just reskins of old enemies and the new dwarves were easily understood and killable.

The second half of the dlc....  I mean I'm not a lore master, but I really felt like all the established lore about dwarves was thrown out the window in a "just go with it" sort of fashion.   Maybe I'll adjust to it and it'll seem fine later though.   I hope...

Yes, there's plans for all the major weapon types to be found in the deep.  I didn't look at them all that closely though.

Can you put attachments on them if you did craft one?

Liked this better then JOH.

The enemies (not just the darkspawn) got a little tedious, personally I liked the idea of being swarmed by a hoard but their health was so high it was beyond stupid and got boring fast. I did like the armour and dwarven friends that tag along and while I did like their little story it felt as if they took away from my companions banter. I get voice actors are expensive and what not but If I could solo this DLC I'd highly doubt I'd notice my companions absence, there was just something lacking.

JOH did that right, it had the banter it had the silly notes that the advisors scribbled on, it had your companions and Harding mentioning your advisors and the story plot as a whole. It just felt as if it had more character then this DLC, which just felt so very disconnected from the events of the game as a whole. It strongly reminds me of the DLC where Hawke finds Cory, it feels as if it could be setting something up for the next game. An ally or enemy who knows?

The lore, the end boss and the deep roads were fantastic. I loved when we finally reached the bottom area and it was just not what I expected at all, it was so beautiful I just wanted more of that it also raised so many questions. I mean why do we need all these questions now? I guess its to get us interested in possible graphic/book novels and future games but I also feel they should look to wrapping this game up.

Have us meet Solas, let the Inquisitor get the truth from him and get some closure on these events, I know we have a possible Qunari thing to go through and I'm not sure If i'm looking forward to that one but I would like future DLC's to be more connected to the main story, to skyhold, to my companions, advisors and Love interests. Is it so hard for them to sit down and instead of "Grand, massive and wow" I'd like them to do something more personal. That is what the DAI is lacking, we don't have enough emotional moments we need more pain and happiness and less "Lets save the world again"

As for spending £12, I may say its worth it maybe? Considering all the work they put into and how expensive stuff like this is to make.

The new weapons made with the plans only have rune slots.  Just like the ones in Jaws of Hakkon.

I don't think they add anything besides rune slots on DLC weapons and any armors they are not the standard 3 or 4 types.

I didn't like as much as JOH.  If I could re-title this DLC-  I would name it 'Dwarven Trashmobs with machine guns".

Pros:

Beautiful graphics

Lots of combat (also a negative)- mostly trash mobs. Lots and lots of big trash mobs

New Dwarf companions are well done

New enemies

Ability gained in JOH - the Aegis of the Rift ability- is damn useful here.

Cons:

Not much in the way of gameplay- it is short. Maybe 2-3 hours of gameplay- without much replay appeal. 5 months in between DLC's for this?

Machine guns? Really? More accurately- projectile propulsion devices. They are deadly and out of place.

No new abilities and the new loot and schematics are 'meh'.

Not worth $15.

Really love DAI- but I should have skipped this DLC until it came down in price.

The thing I wonder about is this: does it have a level of technological (or other) awesomeness somewhere that explains why this couldn't be made for old gen?
