Looking at the prices of DAI:Descent in both US and AU there appears to be a discrepancy.

The US price is $15, the AU is $25, but the currency conversion (as it stands today) from $15US to AU is $20.65AU. Now whilst rounding it up to $21AU would be understandable since currency conversion changes slightly from day to day, increasing the price to $25AU is almost a 25% increase over the original price.

I talked to someone via the ea help chat system about this who was very helpful and in addition to sending the question on up and giving me a discount code suggested I post my concern on the forum so I, and other players bothered by this, could be seen.

Australian's are no strangers to unnecessary price hikes on games and technology but the chances of this particular case being rectified are better if we both express our concerns here and contact ea

If you do decide to contact ea please remember to be polite as the people you are talking to are not the developers who made the decision, just people who've been hired to man the help desk and send on problems.

Yeah, I pinged Mark Darrah (politely) on twitter earlier today and he said he'd look into it. Which given he's one of the big cheeses round these here Bioware parts, I assume meant he went and pointed at someone and said, "Find out what the hell is going on in Australia. They'll send their damn dropbears after us if we don't. Or possibly their spiders." :)

Not to take shots at you or anything. But for future DLC could you keep an eye on it for our sake. It seems to be happening each time a DLC comes out... I don't think Sony's been getting the price memo :P

I notified the team around 2pm MST not sure if you messaged him before or after that point.

I recorded a memo and passed information along to others to keep an eye in the future

Heh, no idea. I have enough trouble working out the time difference between Melbourne and Perth. Anything more than that and my brain might curl up and start crying. I just wanted the OP to know that it's been made known to various people from various directions so all is... known. :D

4am Perth, 6am Melbourne would be the time when it was 2pm here

Oooh, you can brain. :D Would have been after that. So presumably finger pointing and dropbear/spider threats had already been made.

Yeah that's what I just noticed. Heard some fascinating things about it, figured I'd get back into DAI (even though it meant disabling mods for the DLC), went to the store anTWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS?!

Still the last one was $25 at first as well, and eventually was lowered to something more reasonable. I say wait a week for something a little more uh, appropriate. Especially since it has developer attention.

The hilarious part for me is that I never bothered to take the $5 refund from JOH out of my PayPal account, so I ended up spending $20 on The Descent just as I expected to. Maybe I should leave any hypothetical future refund in there just in case the next DLC is mis-priced as well ...

Nope, us old-worlders pay premium. Actually, I didn't even check the pricetag. :o

I believe we actually pay less than Americans (without our %20 VATs, that is), but seeing Australians may pay even less than us, I think there may be some room to further decrease the European price.

assuming past history repeat, the DLC will be 20 dollars (it's what most of us aussie are screaming for anyway). which at midnight 13th Aug is 42 cents cheaper then the american price if you do a exchange rate conversion (1AUD = 0.73USD)

what's the European price? 15USD should be just a little above 13Euro according to yahoo

AUD 20 * 0.74 / (1 + %10 GST) = USD 13.50
EUR 15 * 1.12 / (1 + %20 VAT) = USD 14.00
GBP 12 * 1.56 / (1 + %20 VAT) = USD 15.60

or am I wrong?

Is it too early to read anything into the lack of response?  Or has there been a response that I missed?

I'm keeping an eye on the store, and on this topic.

Just reloading Origin for another look - the price hasn't changed, but it IS listed twice. Bizarre.

I'd check again on Tuesday since it's the Weekend for them now.

I gave in. I guess I'll have to go through the terrible CS once the price is fixed.

I've just decided to wait until the price fix before buying.

I can be patient - I have other games to sustain me.

If the BioWare devs found anything in their investigating, I'd be really interested. But, people start looking into this issue and give up pretty quick. For good reasons.

This is a 5 year old article that I, personally, haven't found anything "better than" in recent years.

http://www.kotaku.co...s-cost-so-much/

These are the findings of the 2013 government inquiry into it. It addresses everything from perception and factors to impacts and remedies while still managing to say, pretty much, "It's complicated."

http://www.aph.gov.a...cing/report.htm

$25 does seem a bit prohibitive for a DLC to me (with the emphasis on D). Obvs, everyone has different amount of disposable income and love for DA, though. I'd probably shell out $25 for Dragon Age, but you look at stuff like Game of Thrones on iTunes and go, "Ooo, $19, OK, then get directed to the Aussie store and it's $32, and you're like, nahhh." (I just made those prices up. But, something like that, at times.)

(Huh. I just looked up GOT Season 5 on US store and it was $38, and $32 on the Aussie. I probably looked at the wrong version or something. But I can't figure it out. I guess this is also why the study above addresses perception.)

My role as a QA is to report issues and provide as much information as possible, I fulfilled those aspects.

For myself I can not do anything further.

Last time it was a discrepancy in pricing between PC and console, so it may have been an error and not the "Straya Tax." This time it seems more like the Straya tax. And, last time, the console price may actually have been the mistake, but they brought PC down in line with it because bringing console up seems worse. (I'm not being cynical. This is how I preordered The Witcher 3 for $49 through steam. Pricing mistake.)

I don't know who can address the Straya Tax. Maybe Supergirl.

The Witcher devs gave us a "Fair Price Package" on GOG over The Witcher 2 because they mistakenly priced it too low initially, which was a voucher for the difference. I think it was $29. But they did that at their own expense, so it doesn't make a lot of business sense to ask other devs for similar.
