I was responding to the person talking about not getting the dlc for free.

I'm obviously blind, as I don't see anyone suggesting this DLC be free.

Who knows how much the VA's alone get paid, judging by the Descent DLC they're not paid by the hour, but by the number of syllables, so that needs paid for, and clearly the list goes on with cinematics, artists, writers, programmers etc. whose time also needs to paid for.

I know I'll be buying Trespasser as soon as it's available on Origin, I just hope the price isn't too insane. Our dollar is really low at the moment and expected to go even lower which does have an effect. A little hard to believe how rapidly its dropped in the last year or so.

Whilst I'll buy it ASAP, a lot of other people will look at the high price tag and ignore it as well. I'd suspect more people would ignore it if the price is considered too high.

Well, either they edited their post or I misread it.

Ah well.

The only reason it's more for us is because our country has a video game tax, plus GST and probably 2-3 more taxes on top of Bioware's selling price. It's not Biowares fault sadly, just the country we live in Government's.

The 'video game tax' is not actually real its a joke about the fact that Australian prices are unreasonably high. GST would only be $1.5 if they even pay it which I doubt and there are no more taxes on an online service based in the US.

-snip-

Ah, It was them talking about how they don't like that the conclusion of the story is behind a paywall.

Plus the software tax as well, seeing as American companies like to overcharge more than for everywhere else.

Gotcha. Damned if they do, damned if they don't  I guess. Given the choice of being able to play a post original game ending and have some say in how it wraps up Vs reading about it in a codex entry next game I'll take this.

It's a risk for BW as well given that roughly 25-30% of the player base of any game even reaches the end.

I do understand the issue though as in some parts of the world I can see this being priced out of peoples comfort zone for 5-10 hrs content, so they'll need to see the ending(s?) on youtube or something which won't be as satisfying, or avoid spoilers and hope it goes on sale at some point is the other option.

I got an email back from EA support (after about 3 weeks and having to contact them again) and they said the reason that the Playstation and Xbox stores have a different price to the Origin store is because they sell the DLC to them as they would a physical copy. This means that EA is selling their products through their own store at a higher rate than through a third party. I would've thought that would make it the cheapest because they are not going through a middle man and yet it is the most expensive. They also closed the conversation without ever telling me why the price was higher than the exchange rate (that was my original question), which unless they are artificially raising the price would've been pretty easy to explain. I'm just disappointed in the consistent price gouging of EA.
