I've been referring to the leak a lot lately, and we all know the leak isn't known to be factual.  Only a few things has been confirmed, but I'll say this with a grain of salt, it did state we can pilot the ship.

I have NO problem with the ME1 style of navigation, but I wouldn't mind the ME2+3 style either.

I'm hoping the overworld portion of MEA will be like ME1, as in, we do not have to guide the Normandy through various planets and systems, and rather click on them.

Thoughts?

Yes. It makes much more sense. Going through the galaxy map in ME1 felt like I was actually looking at the galaxy map and plotting our next course.

Driving a mini Normandy through the galaxy map felt disconnected, silly and childish to me, not to mention tedious, especially in ME3 with those goddamn reapers chasing you after scanning 2 or 3 times for war assets (it felt like playing a worse version of pac-man, f*ck that sh*t).

Yeah, I prefer the ME1 style. It's just kinda weird piloting the Normandy to each individual planet. The ME1 approach made it seem more like Shepard was giving an order - 'take us here, Joker.' ME2/3 was just kinda odd, because we know it's not Shepard piloting the ship.

I hope they go with something like the early pre-release footage for ME1. I was always disappointed in the galaxy map designs after seeing that.

Nostalgia... I wonder why they changed it (the galaxy map)? This was soo much better than what they went with in the final version/completed game.

That Galaxy map is nothing but an animation. It's about as interactive as the in-engine demo for ME:A, which means completely non-interactive. You're right though. The design looks better.

...which just makes me worry that ME:A's galaxy map navigation tease will not indicate how it is in the game at all.

First time I saw that video........my reaction was WTF why we didn't get that....it seems vastly superior to what we got in the end. Heck also graphically looked better than ME1...I'm so facepalming right now.....

The design of that demo looked fantastic but I could imagine that they had to cut some costs. when making the real deal. That said, the system we see there looks a bit weird. My knowladge on Astrophysics is pretty limited but if I am informed correctly, planet's orbits around a star are usually aligned pretty much in a plane because of the balance between centripetal and gravitational forces. So tat 3d system there would probably be fairly unusual. Still, it looks great and I am not sure about things like extra-solar captures and such oddities, that could defy the norm.

In any case, I do hope they 'll have the planets look like in that video, rather then the plastic ball looks that we had in ME2/3.

It never existed.

It never existed.

Quite evidently, It did. It was never fully implemented but that's an entire different story.

Never existing and never making it to final game are two different things.  What they've shown was a work in progress.  And I liked the galaxy map before final version.

I liked that looked, a bit more techy and a color visual.  Wish they've never changed it.

Again, nothing was ever cut. What you see in the demo is a visual target (and you can tell it switches between real-time gameplay and target-renders), but for reasons they couldn't make the galaxy look or work like that once they started actually building it around mechanics, most likely.

It took me a while to realize this - that early footage of the Galaxy Map makes me think of Stellar Cartography in Star Trek Generations. The difference between that and what we got is like seeing that scene, built with a feature film budget, and then watching TNG and seeing the 2D screen graphics that they used on the show instead because they couldn't afford to build Stellar Cartography.
