I want coop. If they make PvP make it hilarious like pyjaks vs barren vs tresher maw vs various other mass effect creatures. Make it similar to garden warfare. That would be awesome IMO and a total change of pace.

Like that mode in Gears 3, that was awesome.

Are most people that oppose PvP on principle and praise PvE the type of player that plays Sim Base in RTS games?

I am pro-PVP because near-term AI will always be an inferior opponent. It would actually be pretty easy to implement even in the ME3 MP format. There's no real need to 'balance' both sides of a PvP mode as an asymetric playstyle could be just as fun. Imagine that if instead of 4 on 4 PvP ME3 Co-Op just allowed one player to assume direct control on the Reaper/Collector side of things. The one player would rarely/never win, but it would still be fun to change things up every now and then. Imagine being that one Banshee that isn't fooled by a stupid Decoy during the Firebase White farming heyday. Players evolve playstyles in interesting ways. I can only imagine that getting that same creativity from the enemy would be a great pushback against stratified farming strats.

tldr; You don't need to balance the game for PvP to have PvP.

Only multiplayer I play is co-op, mostly because I suck

but Tomb Raider's multiplayer kept it from being any more than a fun single player experience

PvP would stand for different terms in that case...genital terms.  I wouldn't know though.  I'm a proper lady.

Would also result in coining a new ME phrase to describe frustrated gamers:  #RageRape

So...

1. Do you want PVP in MP and why? and/or Why not?

2. Do you think those that suggest they want PVP have really played this game enough or understand it enough?

1) No. The I don't need player stunlock which would be like geth stunlock on steroids. Plus the first time I get caught in stasis would be one time too many for me. Plus I'm in principle against unbalanced competitive multiplayer. If they keep RNG, if I get matched up against a guy with Harrier X and I'm in there with Mattock I, it just isn't a fair fight. If they do implement it (which I'd be incredibly surprised if they do), it better be a completely separate mode that I won't touch at all.

2) No.

1.) No

I can't see a Mass Effect MP being suited for PVP unless it sacrifices most of the core gameplay mechanics that make it unique in the first place.

Do you guys remember the enemies in ME1 using biotics on you?  Do you recall how angry you were when you got hit with Throw or Stasis?   add on top of that weekly balance changes....ummm   no.    PvP wont happen with this game

Part of the problem is 3D gaming does not yet contain tight enough gameplay from what I've played. ie. it's too overcomplicated versus how simple things were in them 2D days (why VS fighting games are still stuck in the 2D plane even if 3D). Things need to be simplified more, yet still be deep enough for truly replayable PVP gaming.

BioWare is also not very good at balancing games yet either to handle the task of PVP.

^ True BSN babies already whine about multiplayer and its guns and stuff (acolyte included) Cough cough

that making a PVP mode will be highly impossible as it won't ever satisfy the hunger of BSN babies

as there will always be a character or gun that will be superior or crazy game mechanics that will get nerfed or readjusted

Baby milk is the lifeline of this forum. Take that out, and it's not BSN anymore. (And I'd be out of a job. Can't have that)

Complaining about what's OP and not is something that comes with playing this game way too much. As with any game anyone ever overplays. You start over analyzing everything.

Virtua Fighters 4 and 5 have extremely tight gameplay across true 3D.  I'm sure Tekken and Dead or Alive can boast similarly, but I'm not a big fan of those so I couldn't say for sure.

Indeed.

I would posit that complaints come mostly from people who haven't played a game enough to even know what they are talking about.  I've seen hair-brained ideas get through to devs and ruin games.  The vocal whiners in any given game often do not think through the things that they presume would make the game better, and pansy devs need to stand up for themselves and tell those people to bugger off.

As others have alluded, balance is the issue.  That being said, I think if ME:A Multiplayer solely attempts a remastered version of ME3MP, its success will be limited.  It would be interesting to have PvP and PvE integrated into the same multiplayer session.  Consider two team captains (e.g. humans) leading respective NPC forces against one another (Krogan vs. Salarian) / (Geth vs. Quarian) ... could be interesting.

IMO that would spoil the immersion and atmosphere of the game itself.  There are always tensions and even conflicts between the various "hero races" of the ME universe, but they never actually go to war with each other.  The overarcing theme includes resolving those differences, or at least setting them aside, to cooperate in order to defeat a common enemy.

The First Contact War is over.  The Rachni War is over.  The Genophage is over.  We don't need to revisit those themes or reopen those old wounds.  In much the same was as Gears of War: Judgement broke immersion by having multiplayer include COG vs COG, ME:A would break its immersion in similar fashion by pitting hero races against each other.

You could always do the MP as a simulation similar to the Armax Arena in the Citadel DLC. I think it'd be better that way anyway so we can avoid things breaking lore.

Though you'd still have the PvP balance issues. It generally just wouldn't be fun to get instantly CC'd and be killed before you ever get out.

After the ending of Mass Effect 3, what universally evil enemies are left?  IMO, Mass Effect 3 was basically the nail in the coffin for the franchise, but we shall see.  I have no expectations for Andromeda.  Warring races / choosing sides etc would be interesting and increase replayability - and it doesn't have to be races, it could be like ME2 with eclipse / bloodpack / blue suns.  But I know most people like a game where everyone sings koombaya and gets along,...

That being said, I'm sure we see a universal enemy because of the implicit expectation of inhuman boss-type enemies, invoked by reapers/collectors.

One thing that people have been mentioning is asymmetric balancing. Think L4D2's versus mode with, melee and teamwork oriented infected with infinite timed respawns and AI bot allies controlling lesser "mook" creatures, vs Survivors who play with typical shooter mechanics but only consist of 4 units, each of which die permanently if they are downed for too long or too many times (or in certain manners, such as being thrown off of ledges).

If I can play as a Banshee, teleport around, and vacuum grab, then maybe.

If I can play as a Banshee, teleport around, vacuum grab, and make cool poses, showing off my reaper lips, then yes.  Yes, I do want.

Who knows what enemies they will find in Andromeda?  Or do you expect it to be a big empty sandbox with nobody in it when we get there?

Surely there could be room for minor territorial disputes with the Milky Way races, but with the entirety of Andromeda to colonize, those really shouldn't be particularly common.  I'd imagine that whoever currently inhabits Andromeda might not be so willing to give up their territory.

Battles and skirmishes with the existing races would have made a lot more sense if the next installment was staying in the Milky Way: perhaps colonizing outlying areas of the Attican Traverse and Terminus Systems, for example.  I personally would have preferred this type of setting.  Unfortunately that got thrown right out the window.

If I get to assume direct control of the enemy faction, running one 'possessed' unit at a time, then I could be interested in trying it out.

The diversity of powers is one of the major selling points of this game and I'd hate to see that diminished in the name of balance. Otherwise, Geth stagger is bad enough, why would I sign up for worse? So I'm against a traditional style PvP version of ME.

Prepare for major gun nerfing if they put in a PvP. I bet a Claymore would do predator damage.

An in game PvP mode is a bad idea.

The only semblance of "PvP" that I've ever suggested was a community solo based idea where we get to choose our own objectives so that the HOF speed run threads can be a bit more balanced since soloing is arguably more popular than any other trend but again, an actual in game PvP mode will indeed ruin the coop spirit of the game.

If it's team based PvP, as in 4v4, I'm in.  Otherwise nope.  I like team based games, I have been playing L4D since it's birth, and this is the only game since that has even come close to the fun I have with that game (it actually surpasses it at this point).  Deathmatch crap is boring.

Get Garden Warfare. I'm not kidding that crap is ridiculously fun and a total stress free PvP game. A lot less of a grind as well.
