Why PVP in MP?

I honestly can't see any reason as to why there should be a PvP mode. Not for lore, not for the community. Balancing would be a goddamn nightmare. There are plenty of other games that cater to this.

I hope they cancel multiplayer.

Waste of resources and it will never be balanced.

 

ME3 had multiplayer and the worst single player campaign of the series.  Obviously not a coincidence.

Exactly, and then they can use the development effort to give us extra romance options. I always really wanted to romance a Gruffalo in ME3. Biovar, pls.

Nope. me1 wasn't ps3 until after I beat 2 and 3 so there was no point in going back. (especially with all the comments about how bad combat was compared to 2/3)
I DO remeber all the crybabies making things getting nerfed though so pvp can't work.

Do you guys remember the enemies in ME1 using biotics on you?  Do you recall how angry you were when you got hit with Throw or Stasis?   add on top of that weekly balance changes....ummm   no.    PvP wont happen with this game

You may have a point about the focus of players in ME3MP being to compare skill against the AI between each other instead of directly with their peers ingame, but I think that years of 'epeen' 1v1 me bro type trends would give credence to my original claims.

 

I do think there's a healthy portion of the community that gets all the fulfillment they need from co-op mode MP, but at the same time and ESPECIALLY amongst the players of higher skill/experience, I do think there is a viable craving for direct competitive multiplayer that BW can capitalize on IN ADDITION to the co-op MP that brought us all here to begin with! In case I wasn't clear in my previous post, at no point did I say to include PvP at the expense of co-op, simply as an addition. If people don't like it, they don't have to play it, right?? Simple.

At the purest, I really like PvP games. But the more competitive it is the more temptation for exploitation. And again this isn't saying that I do not want PvP. It's saying that if they include PvP I want it to be an even playing field. Destiny was **** because there was no dedicated servers, no real punishment for those that exploited the game as well. I'm just saying there is going to be a whole lot of resources, time and money that will go into managing the game if PvP is introduced as well.

Nuke, amongst the list of thing wrong with Destiny PvP you mentioned (all of which I agree with btw), you forgot to mention that aside from IB and ToO, it is a pretty balanced playing field given the flat rating of weapon attack. You are then forced to get further into the 'character' of each gun in order to optimize what's right for you, etc. (ie: hi impact/lo impact, RoF, etc) All things that any iteration of ME PvP could incorporate along with a reworking of powers, etc so as to achieve the 'balance' that so many  in this thread seems to think is going to be 'impossible'..

 

I will say this lastly, this is what I get sick of man, the people who come at this thread and fail to offer any tangible reasons for dislike of any PvP other than wild generalizations about the downfall of co-op b/c of all the "PvP assholes", or how the BSN community will become more toxic (like it's not fu*ked up as it is with trolls and alts), or how suddenly people want to become "experts" on resource/tech mgmt and now have the ability to guide entire dev studios and publishers with said knowledge as to how to best  guide the product that is the core livelihood for so many at that company!

 

I mean if you wanna talk balance, I get it and Nuke you brought up some fine points in that aspect alone. But forgive me if I can't go all the way with ya! We'll just have to agree to disagree :)

I can think of a number of ways they could balance out a PvP option in their new game, including mucking with cooldown timers for powers that aren't balanced for that style play.

I'm not one of these anti-PvP people. I enjoy it even though I wouldn't want anyone under the age of 18 around me while I'm playing it. :lol:  

 

I just want them to do it right if they decide to add that element. I'm not sure if they can do all the things that people want the right way.

Keep it co-op but have different types of end of match rankings based on Most score, Most Kills, Most Assists, Most Revives, Most Headshots, Most Objectives done, Least deaths, Least consumables used, Stayed alive the longest etc. That way we can all be winners in our own way.

I do find the PVP hate rather amusing. Personally I would like to have had PVP included, provide that it didnt take anything away from the co-op experience. Having the option of additional game types should only add to the experience (as long as the co-op and PVP was kept separate). Yes the balancing could be tricky but it would be possible. I wouldnt be so quick to discount PVP, afterall ME3MP faced the same resistance at first and look how this turned out. I doubt many on here saw the MP as anything other than a tacked on extension that would see very little attention by most players but the MP ended up being ME3 saving grace

Even though Co-op will be my primary focus, I still would not mind some kind of basic PVP as well, no powers just weapons scattered around the map that you pick up Unreal Tournament style.

My only wish is that Headshots get counted as an individual statistic so I can see exactly how many I have.  In ME3 there's just no way to know!
