I tried using a 360 controller with DAMP today

I use KB&M with most games, but a controller with DAMP, simply because I didn't like* the controls when I first got the game. That was in single player. Now I'm just used to doing it. Won't deny that there are advantages to not using a controller, but as far as DAMP is concerned, there just isn't enough urgency to the gameplay to justify this kind of elitism.

Might consider trying to switch when it comes to actually playing as mages, though.

*didn't like is an understatement.

Just shows what you can master, you Fire Mine loving auto-attack nub

Bet you can't shoot without a mouse either

(actually I commend you for even checking out the difference, should be followed by realizing how dumb some comments in my threads were)

Just shows....much like in ME3MP that console players are superior due to having to put up with sluggish controls as opposed to the easy running, head shotting, cancelling of the pcers.

As a scrubby console player I do nothing but think 'I would be twice as good if I was on the pc.  I now feel warm and fuzzy and that last death was not my fault at all.'

Except it is a fact that ME3's difficulty was tied with its frame rate, because enemy accuracy was tied to frame rate. I recall reading the tests of those, where you could literally walk in front of some enemies and not get hit at all if you lowered the frame rate, whereas if it is increased the enemy can hit you from across the map consistently.

That fact is not deniable. I would still prefer the KB&M though.

Granted, this is an old 360 controller, but I don't have a XB1 controller or PS3/PS4 controller. They don't play the same.

I'd try it out with the other controllers if I had them, but I don't.

Rofl, Fire Mine auto targets to certain places. It is still way better than your builds.

Try both. TBH, if someone wants to mail me a controller I'd take it, but I'm not spending my own money when I have a superior input device already.

I thought I would have to use KB&M on this game, but the PS4 controller is very good.  Have no issues with using what I need to in the time I need to use.

KB&M is so much more useful

- Targeting enemies from far away with mouse

- Targeting enemies precisely with mouse

- Casting AoE spells is much, much faster with mouse and just as precise

- All spells/potions are directly accessible from the keyboard buttons

- F1 to F4 for command controls

- Complete control over camera

- Shift-canceling is 3x easier with remapping

So... either using a controller isn't even close to as bad as you make it out, or your gameplay isn't up to snuff.

Nah, all you did was spawn camp better. That's it. Thanks for pointing out where the exact spawn camp locations were btw, but that's the only useful thing you've taught.

Drasca, you can't spawn camp with one person.

I wouldn't even be playing DAMP any more if I stuck with kb/m.After 2 games or so,my hands an wrists would be killing me from the crap keyboard layout, thus needing a break constantly(which wasn't fun).It also kept me from getting carpal tunnel, arthritis,or some crazy **** like that.It really didn't take all that long before I was impressed by how much better my gameplay was,but it did take a little practice to get there.Trust me,after a little more use, you'll be way faster and more efficient with the controller.

What is also a fact is that you modified your game files to cheat because clearly the game was too hard for you at 60fps. The difficulty increase wasn't even that noticeable from 30 to 60, and I say that as someone who migrated from xbox to PC. If anything, the PC version is easier, because like others have said, you have a lot more control and precision over your character.

You forgot one thing... carpal tunnel.

XBOX is especially useful for people like me that work on a computer all day, and then want to unwind sitting in the fade (like I often do :X).

Oh, this guy gives me an idea if I ever get guitar hero / rock band again:

DAMP with a guitar controller instead of Dark Souls with guitar

Granted, it is not the same as mouse+keyboard.  It is doable though, not with the same level of accuracy mind you, but it is a L2P with a controller thing.  Went through this too when I moved from PC to console.

Drasca how familiar are you with console controllers? If you don't use them often or at all of course the game is gonna feel horrible. You know what you want to do but can't do it intuitively or at all (kb&m has more configurations of course) it would feel the same for me if I suddenly started using kb&m. It takes time and dedication to get used to different controls/schemes.

It took me almost a whole year to get used to a fight stick, and I was cursing and hating it all the way through. Now I swear by them and think they are the superior choice when it comes to fighting games.

Dude I play fighting games on controllers on a high level and legendary halo plenty. It doesn't make the problems and lack of accuracy of targetting inherently in DAMP any less of an issue. MP Camera control just sucks, and the game wasn't designed around the large number of enemies we face in MP. It was designed around SP and fewer enemies, and the ability to pause and queue commands.

Dude, the fight stick. I need to bring that **** out and try that for damp. Camera control problems still there though (since there's no secondary joystick), but can't be that much worse considering camera is already terrible.

Wavebend points out the major advantages with KB&M and everyone else that isn't a die-hard console fanboy recognizes you cannot get the accuracy you can get on KB&M.

The controller only players don't even know how good it can get, just like you finally swear by fight sticks.

I 1st started with a console so that I could sit in my easy chair and use my big screen tv.

Very easy to justify this, sit in my easy chair, play in front of my big screen tv while my computer resides in my office or computer room.  No need to worry about what all my pc has spec wise with each and every game.

PC gaming has a lot of advantages as well for sure, but neither is the be all end all.

My couch was simply way more comfortable to sit on.  Add to that the numerous driver issues and PC bugs, the decline of PC importance (despite the Master Race claims)—been there, had enough.

Boy you had better have a good explanation for this

One simple fact. Games. Games get primary developed for consoles and ported to PC. Console have so many good exclusive titles PC don't get. This excludes Real-Time Simulators mostly and totally MMO's. Every other game category is owned by consoles. Even multi-platform games don't run as smooth on PC as on consoles. Popular and recent examples: Batman Arkham Knight and Assassin's Creed: Unity.

You can argue about PC emulation, which is costly and way behind. And mostly illegal, assuming the majority of people don't own on PC emulated games.

Furthermore PCs are way more costly than console, which you buy for a good 6-8 year cycle. To keep up on PC you need to change parts more often than on consoles.

Console is, if you like good games, the superior system. Fact.

I only went to PC from console because Witcher 3 wasn't coming out on 360, and it was cheaper to buy a graphics card then an XBox One.  Which was a good plan in theory, but I miss my comfy chair - and then my 'puter got stolen in June so I ended up buying a new one, which cost WAY more that the XBox would've.  But then they would've stolen that too...unlike my 360 which they left behind lol

My #1 gripe with controllers is AoE targetting, Barrier being the biggest culprit.  Stand near the group - start to cast Barrier - move just slightly to catch everyone and activate.  Works great unless you're doing this in a tense situation and fire off a barrier that auto-targetted for some ungodly reason on an enemy across the battlefield...

That being said, like already mentioned, I also could not stand the kb&m controls when first playing this game - whereas controller felt much more natural to me.  That, less joint strain, and occasionally losing track of where the cursor is... I've stuck with controller and would not call either input method useless.

edit: gripe not grip >.>
