Are there historians of certain races, sexual orientations and nationalities that we should avoid while we're at it?

Suggestion was implied; you may of course do as you please, but I would appreciate the acknowledgment of the singular: a book. I should hope you won't default to my suggestion for all future studies.

Well, that was unnecessarily harsh.

And, yes, I've led an interesting life.  Most intellectually curious people do.

You can read whatever ulterior motive you want to in my posts as I'm not in the business of "proving" myself to anonymous internet pee-ons.  Nice to see you're keeping copious notes on my posting history, however.

Uhu.

Rest assured though, I'm not keeping notes, I just have a good memory, especially on people who stand out (take that as you will).

@Jazz- I don't recall saying you did. This is the BSN, it's not the first time this conversation has been had.

You keep mentioning how we're using specific examples from "male dominated fields" so i'll ask again. How about an example from a field where women are physically dominant? I'll wait.

Massage therapist.(Seriously, noone wants a massage from a guy, woman or man, even if he has stronger hands)

Teacher (and underpaid at that)

Nurse (also under paid for the work)

Sales (People are more comfortable with and likely to buy from a woman, which probably is the reason retail is mostly women.)

Child care (Male day care worker? Get away from my kids pervert!)

(Am I exaggerating for effect? probably)

You kidding? My physical therapist was a savant in the ways of muscle relaxation.

The problem with this topic, (and it's way off topic for a gaming forum) is that saying or implying that 3.5 billion people enjoy power and privilege while the other 3.5 billion people don't, is absurd.

I agree with you that this would definitely be an absurd claim, but it's not a claim that anyone I know of makes. There's a long lecture about intersectional theory and whatnot that could be made here, but briefly, you can be privileged along some dimensions of your identity and underprivileged along other dimensions. So for instance, if you're a straight white male but you happen to be extremely poor, you'll enjoy some privileges but also face many disadvantages associated with your class; possibly, this could be to the point that all things considered, you'll be less privileged than, for instance, upper middle class white women. This is consistent with mainstream feminism as far as I can tell.

But yes, more high-ranking women in ME:A would be nice. :)

That's where the "(Am I exaggerating for effect? probably)" line comes in :)

I had a male massage therapist once. He mentioned his wife 3 times, and talked about how it was hard getting any business.

Yeah I know, but seriously massage therapists are awesome no matter if they're men, women, in-between, or alien.

Make sure to avoid books by those cis, white people. You can almost smell the privilege seeping from the pages.

In all honesty though, the only book on biology worth reading is the SCUM manifesto. It succinctly details the difference between males and females right down to the chromosomes.

Spoiler

Who needs that science mumbo-jumbo anyway?

Do go on.

Also explain why the sex of a historian matters.

This is already becoming an exchange of single lines. My thoughts on the matter would be utterly lost on you as your mind is utterly made up. That is to say, I'd rather not waste my time.

Oh no, I eagerly await your thoughts.

If you have credible evidence, I would be more than happy to hear it. Who knows? Maybe my viewpoint could be altered slightly.

I've read that book. It's the biggest pile of misandry I've ever read. Hilarious though. But at the same time sad. Very sad. Sad that books like these are generally acceptable that is. If someone would write a S.C.U.F. Manifesto then you can bet your sweet cheeks that it will be banned and burned in a matter of weeks.

That's something I've notice , so in my imaginary Mass Effect film trilogy, Admiral Hackett is played by Jodie Foster.

Pretty much straight white men. If you see one of them you are legaly required to stab em.

I don't enjoy privileges though, as a straight white male. For instance lets say I can get married to whoever I want. Is this a privilege I hold over gay men? No. It's not. Being treated fairly is not a privilege. It is, or should be, standard behaviour.  All so called privileges that I am claimed to have are along those lines. Noone is jumping for the chance to provide me service that noone else is getting. Noone cares about me or my gender or my skin colour. They care about making a sale, or whether I can get a job done.

A privilege is when someone gets treated better than the default, not GETTNG the default.treatment. Dwayne Johnston is privileged. Warren Buffet, is too, and Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Queen Elizabeth and any number of other famous or rich people. They get benefits that neither you nor I get because of their wealth and fame or position in life, not because of their genetics (Well, except for the Queen I guess. heh).

And no, not all men, straight men, white men or whatever combination you prefer, get even the 'default'. Perhaps most do, I don't know, but it's still not a 'privilege'. Any more than it is when people other than 'straight white men' get the default treatment. Which plenty of them do.

I suspect it will be mostly humans in Andromeda unfortunately. At least it can be supported in lore by saying it was (somehow) a human  led project.

Humans were way overrepresented in the Shepard trilogy, and way too powerful for only being on the galactic scene for 30 years.

"Men are a genetic mistake" is a sickening distortion of biology, born from the belief that men and women are somehow instrinsicly different on an uninfluenced, reproducable level.

And...

Oh no, I eagerly await your thoughts.

Yeah I never liked the "humanz aret speshuhlz" crap that was going on in the original trilogy. I seriously hope humans will legit be the underdogs this time in ME:A.
