I liked elevators they were a clever way to keep you immersed while the game was loading. It's much better than a straight up loading screen because you never disconnect from the game.

I thought ME1 was very clever with its decompression chambers and elevators hidden loading screens, they felt part of the game.

However I do hope this time around we can move inside our ship without loading screens. It's something that was long overdue.

On a general note hidden loading screens are always better.

I like integrating in game world effects into the the loading screen. So I am pro elevator. I don't think many people had issues with them outside the absurd load times. When a 20 foot change into another section of your ship takes 30 seconds it breaks immersion.

Whether it's taxis, public transit or elevators I'm fine with the idea. Just add some better visuals when it makes sense like windows to the city in the elevator. And two make them
Fast.

Heck I'd like some in non loading situation working in real time. Take the exposed elevator for speed or the stairs with more cover?

I prefer a teleporting chamber, myself.  Hop in, punch your destination or via voice command, engage and exit at your desired location.

Elevators are so, 19teen century.

Instead of making elevators dull it would be cool to be able to see out of glass elevators like sunsets, thunderstorms, and outside environments like a busy city scape, etc.

Confession time: I liked the Mass Effect Elevators. And the leaving/entering the Normandy sequences.

So did I. I liked the juxtaposition of fighting aliens and robots in space with mundane moments like that. It'd be even more amusing if they had more variations in idling animation. People fidgeting more and stuff.

Game designers must think gamers are insane. One moment we say. "we want X" and so they give us X and then we say "no give us back Y." This isn't an isolated case either. Its like we get what we ask for and then blame the developers for listening to us but when they don't change something we still blame them for not listening to us. They can't win.

Am I the only one who liked the elevators? I felt that hopping in an elevator and getting one place to another was more immersive, but can you please make them shorter if you do implement them again?

You're not, but I just hope Bioware makes their decision based on what they believe and not what we believe at this point, even though I just said how much I prefered elevators the other day.

The stuff like "create-a-race" and stuff is just part of the "fans don't know what they want" phenomenon.

Outside of rare instances the complaint wasn't elevators suck though. It was 4 year loading screens suck. The issue isn't always that people can't make up their minds. It's frequently that people don't spend the time to actually understand a complaint.

I loved the elevators. They were better than just loading screens.

A chance at Banter, and I love Banter, BW. You hear? Moar Banter! I like chatty mofo's. I also really loved the news announcements. I want that sort of thing back. I want to run around a hub with my crew again. Give them opportunities for banter. Remarking on what they're seeing and what's going on. Their reactions giving me insight into their personalities.

I don't care abt them having their "own lives" and all that. No, if I'm stuck here, they're stuck with me. Bonding, you know. :P

It's not the same people asking. I say "elevators are boring - cut them immediately" whereas the OP says "bring 'em back". Were both gamers, but not the same gamer.

Doesn't even have to be an elevator.  It could just be walking by something that triggers dialogue.

I'd definitely rather have elevators with party banter than loading screens. While ME1's elevators could get annoying after a while if you happened to be "lucky" and got the same news reports repeated again and again, I still enjoyed listening to my companions in there (I've actually learnt a lot about them just from those moments.) and it felt less boring than loading screens. Although I suspect that talkative companions are the main reason why I have fond memories of the elevators. I guess I wouldn't really add elevators just for the sake of adding elevators... Well, this is not a sentence that I expected to write today... or ever.

It's also fun, to bring different squadmates along to see if the dialogue changes.  Like bringing Garrus and Wrex, or Ashley and Liara...  Fun to mix them up.

No people specifically stated in large numbers and in a loud voice they hated the elevators in me1, so they were removed. It is revisionist history to try and claim that wasn't the actual complaint.

No. They complained about the elevators but more specifically the majority were complaining about the time of the load screens. Very few people were saying dude don't hide a load screen I just want to see a static image maybe have it say loading. Virtually every complaint if people spent the time to understand them was about the time. Whether it was the time overall or time in specific situations varied. Things like a 1 floor elevator ride taking 30 seconds didn't immerse in the setting as the time was unrealistic. And overly long load times no matter how well hidden suck. The complaint was always time. If removing the elevator sped it up people were happy to remove it. If it had no bearing on the time most people didn't care, some would want to keep it and yes some stil would want it removed for a static image.

I enjoyed listening to the news while waiting in the elevator, so I approve of this idea if the elevator appearance seem to be more futuristic.

Not to mention Normandy in ME1 had a real presence in the world. You could walk around the dock seeing it outside and enter/exit at will without launching into orbit like in ME2-3. That dumb cutscene essentially replaced decontamination sequence and was one of the many immersion breakers in sequels (along with smaller non-connected citadel levels and the mission summary screen in sidequests)

Truthfully I had a love hate relationship with them. I enjoyed them when my companions were talking but didn't like them as much when it was telling me the news that I already knew. what I wanted though and if you bring them back I think it should be done is to have it be that when the companions start talking you can join in the conversation or just listen to them talk. I hated hearing what they were saying and yet not be able to join in. If I was in that elevator I would have started talking to them and joined in so that the ride wouldn't be as boring. Also the conversation should be timed. In The Walking Dead game the one that is basically a tv show that you direct each time you choose what to say there is a time limit for how long you have to read. That is what should be done on elevators because you don't have a long time to chat in an elevator. These are my thoughts on the elevators. Take them or leave them.
